Sarafian / Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu By Roderick Heath The story of Hugh Glass contains the essence of American frontier mythology—the cruelty of nature met with the indomitable grit and resolve of the frontiersman. It‘s the sort of story breathlessly reported in pulp novellas and pseudohistories, and more recently, of course, movies. Glass, born in Pennsylvania in 1780, found his place in legend as a member of a fur-trading expedition led by General William Henry Ashley, setting out in 1822 with a force of about a hundred men, including other figures that would become vital in pioneering annals, like Jim Bridger, Jedediah Smith, and John Fitzgerald.

INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand markings or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or “target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is “ Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page{s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in die adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in “sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right .in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

GUNSMOKE TV CAST and DETAILS Premiered

GUNSMOKE TV CAST AND DETAILS Premiered: September 10, 1955, on CBS Rating: TV-PG Premise: This landmark adult Western centered on Marshal Matt Dillon of Dodge City. John Wayne turned down the lead, suggesting James Arness (who remained for its entire run). Originating on radio (with William Conrad as Dillon), it moved to TV in September 1955. Its popularity spawned a number of copycats, but none would enjoy the longevity (and few the consistent quality) of this classic. Airing for 20 years, it's TV's longest running prime-time drama (a record that `Law & Order' is currently chasing). Contact: [email protected] Charade (Blu-ray) (Criterion, 9.21.2010) “Oh, it’s a Universal picture. I’ll bet it’s Charade. I’m Stanley Donen. I produced and directed this picture. I hope you forgive me.” “I’m Peter Stone. I wrote it, and you don’t have to forgive me. I’m pleased as punch.” Thus begins the commentary by the director and screenwriter of Charade, and Stone gets it right. Charade is a nearly perfect entertainment, arguably the best imitation Hitchcock, and one of the last true movie-star movies before the studio system bit the dust. I’ve seen it at least 25 times since its 1963 release and never grow tired of its considerable charms. Charade opens with the murder of Charles Lampert, soon followed by the discovery by his widow, Reggie (Audrey Hepburn), that she knew nothing about her husband. The mysterious Peter Joshua (Cary Grant), who goes by three additional names before the film ends, tries to help Reggie sort out a puzzle made more complicated by the presence of three thugs, Gideon (Ned Glass), Tex (James Coburn), and Herman (George Kennedy).

DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS The Belasco Theater (originally Belasco's Stuyvesant) was built in 1906-07 as the ideal playhouse of David Belasco. Actor, dramatist, manager and director , he was one of the most important personalities in the history of American stage. Belasco was a pioneer in the development of the American 1 itt le theater movement where dramatic experience depended on close contact between actors and audience. He conceived of his house as a "living room" and consciously attempted its domestication with a facade in the neo-Georgian style. Home of all Belasco's theatrical operations (and after 1909 his personal home as well), it was executed by some of the finest talents of the day.
