    Contact: Kristyn Souder Communications Director Email: [email protected] Phone: (267)536-9566 PRESS RELEASE Zenkaikon Convention to Bring Anime and Science Fiction Fans to Lancaster in March Hatboro, PA – January 21, 2013: On March 22-24, 2013, Zenkaikon will hold its seventh annual convention in a new location at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The convention expects to welcome over two thousand fans of Japanese animation (anime), comics (manga), gaming, and science fiction to downtown Lancaster for the weekend-long event. Zenkaikon had typically been held in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. However, with the conversion of the Valley Forge Convention Center to a casino and the continued growth of the event, Zenkaikon moved its convention to Lancaster. Many convention attendees don costumes of their favorite characters to attend the annual convention. Planned convention events include a variety of educational panels and workshops hosted by volunteers and guests; anime and live action screenings; a costume and skit competition (the "Masquerade"); a hall costume contest; performances by musical guests; a live action role play ("LARP") event; video game tournaments and tabletop gaming; a formal ball and informal dances; and an exhibit hall of anime-themed merchandise and handmade creations from artists. A number of Guests of Honor have already been announced for Zenkaikon 2013. John de Lancie, best known for his roles on Star Trek and Stargate SG-1, and more recently known for his role as Discord on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, will be hosting panels and meeting attendees. Downloaded from ARTICLE Primary Medical Care in the United Kingdom Martin Roland, DM, Bruce Guthrie, MB, BChir, PhD, and David Colin Thome´, MB, BS Since 1948 health care in the United Kingdom (UK) has been centrally funded through the National Health Service (NHS). The NHS provides both primary and specialist health care which is largely free at the point of delivery. Family practitioners are responsible for registered populations of patients and typically work in groups of 4–6 self-employed physicians. They hire nurses and a range of other ancil- lary staff, and act as gatekeepers to specialist care. Recent reforms include a wide range of national quality improvement initiatives and a pay for performance scheme that accounts for around 25% of fam- ily practitioners’ income. These reforms have been associated with some major improvements in qual- ity, including improved chronic disease management and reduced waiting times for specialist care. The four countries of the UK differ in some important aspects of health care organization: proposed re- forms in England would move towards a more market-driven system, with family practitioners acting as payers for specialist care and controlling 70% of the NHS budget. The other countries (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) focus more on trying to create area-based integrated systems of care. (J Am Board Fam Med 2012;25:S6–11.) SHORTELL University of London; University of California, Berkeley ealth systems throughout the world are searching for more cost-effective ways of delivering care. While Hthe focus in the past has been on constraining the growth in cost of care, new emphasis is being given to improving the quality and outcomes of care. This is in large part due to advances in health services research, which has demonstrated wide variation in both process and out- comes of care even in the most technologically advanced countries such as the United States (Wennberg 1996; Chassin, Galvin, and National Roundtable 1998; Schuster, McGlynn, and Brook 1998; Kohn, Corri- gan, and Donaldson 1999) and the United Kingdom (National Health Service 1999). Another mobilizing factor has been the high-profile in- cidence of gross medical errors in both the United Kingdom (Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry Team 2000; see Dingwall and Fenn 2000) and the United States (Moore 1997). A recent survey of physicians in each country revealed that 45 percent of U.K. generalists and 49 percent of U.K. specialists believe that the quality of care provided has deteriorated over the past five years, and the figures for U.S. generalists and special- ists are 56 percent and 60 percent, respectively (Commonwealth Fund 2000). Resumen del TFG El Visual Kei es una escena musical nacida en y casi exclusiva de Japón, cuya característica principal es que el componente visual o estético tiene tanto peso como el componente musical. Se trata de una escena muy activa y con mucha variedad tanto musical como estética. En este TFG se analiza el Visual Kei como producto cultural, siguiendo un esquema histórico. Empezando desde los movimientos musicales y culturales que han contribuido a su surgimiento como el heavy metal, el glam y el punk; observando la escena que sería su caldo de cultivo, hasta su nacimiento; y viendo las claves de cada etapa de su evolución, desde los años 90 hasta hoy. Además, se observa cuál ha sido el impacto del Visual Kei en la cultura popular japonesa, y cuál ha sido su recepción en el resto del mundo.

Visual kei to kreacja siebie, coś więcej niż tylko odgrywanie roli, teatralizacja czy chęć wyróżnienia się w tłumie – to styl życia inspirowany nieprzebranym źródłem możliwości. W artykule zwracam szczególną uwagę na gotycką odmianę Visual kei, której twórcą jest popularny muzyk Mana. Artysta stworzył zupełnie nowyUMCS świat, który bardzo szybko zainspirował fanów gatunku. Pokazał, w jaki sposób można łączyć japońską muzykę alternatywną (j-rock) z gotyckimi inspiracjami. Stworzył także rozpoznawalny wizerunek, który fani mogą bez problemu odtwarzać (styl Lolita Fashion). Chcę również wskazać, jak wygląda recepcja Visual kei w Polsce. Dlaczego nurt ten nie jest popularny? Czy do fanów przemawia fuzja muzyczna czy tylko specyficzny wizerunek? A może obecny odbiór jest utrudniony przez fakt, że spore zmiany zaszły w obrębie samego Visual kei – czasami trudno określić, jaki konkretnie styl kei prezentuje dany zespół i czy jest to jeszcze jakiś konkretny gatunek muzyczny, czy już tylko osobliwy wizerunek. Słowa kluczowe: Visual kei, Malice Mizer, Japonia, gotyk, epoka wiktoriańska, j-rock, steampunk, gothic lolita Muzyczna scena w Japonii jest bardzo zróżnicowana i wielowymiarowa. Jedno z ciekawszych zjawisk, jakie można na niej zaobserwować, stanowi Visual kei – fenomen japońskiej kultury, który do dziś inspiruje Europę.
