The Centre will be closed on Labour Day, Monday 27th October. The Centre will close completely for the year from Saturday 29th November, re-opening in early January for Summer School. FACILITY FUNCTIONS Blues and Gold Awards: These awards recognise sporting (Blues) and artistic / cultural (Golds) achievement, plus contributions in supporting roles. Clubs and Societies: 100+ clubs and societies, plus support and advice to clubs. Clubs Day: Wednesday, 9th July at MCR - Union Hall, University of Otago. Courses - 50+ activities and courses: Spanning a range of categories including: food & beverage, dance, sports, fitness, martial arts, exercise and health, languages, arts, crafts and creative activities, technical activities, music, & everything in between. Facilities and Gear: Most facilities are cheap or FREE! Check out the wonderful updated facilities, including: refurbished meeting rooms (with audio-visual equipment), dance and exercise spaces, sauna, a new gaming room (opening during semester two), showers, pianos, guitars, ukuleles, newly renovated craft workshop, squash courts, vegetarian lunches – Monday to Friday, during semester. The Centre also has uni student WiFi. Grants: Individuals and affiliated clubs can apply for financial assistance for specific projects. Tournaments: A wide range of tournaments and competitions is on offer. The Centre will close late December and reopen early January 2015. FACILITY FUNCTIONS Court Space: For badminton, various ball court activities plus pool and snooker. Fitness For Fun: Group exercise led by qualified fitness instructors. Gear For Fun: Quality gear for a wide range of recreational activities all year round. Personalised Programmes: Individualised exercise programmes tailored to personal goals. Physiotherapy Clinic: Ph: 479-5757 to make an appointment. Sport For Fun: A wide range of sports played purely for fun at various sports grounds and facilities around campus. Trips For Fun: A vast array of activities, day trips and weekend excursions around Dunedin and beyond. Weights/Cardio Rooms: Extensive range of weight and cardio equipment. Access to the Centre is FREE provided you show your 2014 OU, OPSA, OLC I.D. card, or a Unipol Recreation Centre membership card, at reception. Otherwise casual fees apply. (see pg 65). The Centre features first-class indoor training amenities and change rooms. Kayak storage is available for hire. The building also has yacht and windsurf storage lockers that can be hired. Grounds such as Logan Park, North Ground and Opoho are used for the many social sport games organised by Unipol Recreation Centre through the Sport For Fun programme. Additionally, colleges, cultural and church groups use these grounds as well as the casual student user. See page 47 for the location of Logan Park, North Ground, Opoho and other green spaces. Produce something uniquely New Zealand to give to a friend or keep for yourself. This practical course in bone carving will cover bone preparation, choosing a design, making and finishing a carving, plaiting cord or using the pre made version and the cultural significance of bone carving. All equipment and tools are provided. It will explore ways to tap in to your reservoirs of stores, gain an understanding of the CERAMICS PAINTING basics of story structures, and hone your OUSA RECREATION CENTRE ability to craft believable characters, emotive settings and more.
