Al Feldstein, Harvey Kurtzman : Wally Wood's EC Comics Artisan Edition before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Wally Wood's EC Comics Artisan Edition:

Comics do not get any better than this!!By TrollbeardIn my opinion, it just doesn't get any better. This manageably-sized paperback book is basically a reprint of the large and expensive (and beautiful) "Wally Wood's EC Stories Artist's Edition". What's nice about thjs version is that it's #1, inexpensive and I can read it without wearing surgical gloves, #2 it fits on my desk and I can read it while drinking a beer, and #3, it's beautiful and the reproduction is up to the same standards as the more expensive Artist's Edition book, but on a smaller scale. Just imagine 's EC Library on steroids. Beautiful. This is a truly gorgeous book and worth every penny. Besides that, I love the tales the editors chose. Weird Science and are my favorite EC titles, (I also love the war books) and this book is chock-full of sci-fi, fantasy and war, so you know that I am a very happy camper. There's also the famous "Came the Dawn" from ShockSuspenseStories, and a gallery of covers. There are several tales included, which really are the cream of the crop of EC if you ask me. Wood and Bradbury are as perfect a match as Hendrix and the Fender Stratocaster (and a Marshall stack). It just doesn't get any better. Great comics. Well done, IDW\!!6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Such a beautiful book-Publishers, more like this please!By SymI own the artists edition and I still say this book is money well- spent. There is some stuff missing from the artists edition but it's yapping (about 3D and such) which is cool but buy the crazy expensive book if you need everything. Also this book has all the stories in the artist's edition plus a couple covers (Weird Science #19 20) that are not in that huge awesome book. I'd like to see them full original size now.I never expected to be holding a book of any size filled with such high-quality source material and presentation.Normal size is easier for me to read where the huge artists edition I look through like a fancy art book.I'm thrilled with how much high quality original comic art with full stories IDW and other publishers are dishing out these days!!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Affordable high-quality reproductions of classic comic book art!By W. Daniel PreeceFive stars for the publisher and five stars for the book itself!Kudos to IDW for their true love of comic book art. The original artist editions, which reproduce original art at its original size, was a break-through for art lovers like me. Each page is a full-color, hi-res copy of the original pages, complete with all comments and corrections. (But each page is still 'black and white' since the original artwork was all done in pencil and ink.) This experience goes far beyond simply reading a comic book story. This is about as inside the making of a comic as you can get: underlying pencil work, lettering and inking, corrections, paste-ups, zip-a-tone, everything. But, the artist editions cost $100-150 and are massive. This volume is IDW's first "Artisan Edition," which means it has been reduced in size (but not quality!) for those with a smaller budget. It is well worth the $35 or so I paid here on .Wally Wood was as a true craftsman, a true master of the comic book form. Unlike many later "greats," Wally never took a panel off. Every panel is a strong image with full backgrounds and detail. His work still leaps off the page even after all these decades. Wood represents the best this artform can produce. There is no negatives with this book. I just hope IDW releases every Artist Edition as one of these Artisan Editions! I will happily buy one of each!

The Wally Wood EC Comics Artist's Edition was a massive volume that collected some of the greatest Wally Wood stories from the classic glory days as one of the brightest stars in the EC pantheon of artists. Upon it's release it was a huge critical and commercial success, selling out two printings in record time. Now IDW Publishing, the industry originator and leader in producing original art scanned books, continues to blaze new trails by launching a new format within the Artist's Edition brand — the Artisan Edition. And we have chosen the immensely popular Wally Wood EC Comics Artist's Edition as the debut title in the line.Like an Artist's Edition, an Artisan Edition collects complete stories that are all painstakingly scanned from the original art. But this series will be reproduced at a much more manageable 8 x 12 inches, and in softcover format — making this much easier to peruse and store while all other aspects regarding quality remain the same. If you have been holding off exploring the wonderful world of Artist's Edition, this is the perfect place to begin!Featuring some of the most classic Wally Wood stories ever produced, including "My World," "Came the Dawn," "Mars is Heaven," and many others, as well as a gallery of Wood's breathtakingly beautiful covers.
