Region 2 Other Emphasis Species List Lined Snake (Tropidoclonion lineatum) Recommendation Rationale: Not R2 SS, But Should Be Considered For Other Emphasis Species Lists This prairie species is considered secure within the heart of its range, including eastern Nebraska (could extend to Samuel R. McKelvie and Halsey units) and Kansas. Its imperiled ranking in South Dakota is no doubt due to its very limited distribution in the extreme southeast corner of the state. In Colorado, the species has been found in the Denver-Boulder area, out into the central and southeastern plains. Because of its secretive habits, it is anticipated that it may be even more widely spread in eastern Colorado. It is known from the Comanche National Grasslands and could ultimately be found on or near the Pawnee. While populations may have suffered along the rapidly developing Front Range in Colorado, and as a consequence of riparian habitat degradation, the species seems generally tolerant of habitat modification, and remains at least locally common. Consequently, at this time we see no compelling reason to put on the list. However, the species has several life history characteristics that could put it at risk. Therefore, we recommend that the status of the species be monitored by our Plains units and treated as a species of local management concern where problems are identified. Most historical Angola surveys focused on the north-eastern and south-western parts of the country, with the south-east, now comprising the Kuando-Kubango Province, neglected. To address this gap a series of rapid biodiversity surveys of the upper Cubango-Okavango basin were conducted from 2012‒2015. This report presents the results of these surveys, together with a herpetological checklist of current and historical records for the Angolan drainage of the Cubango, Cuito, and Cuando Rivers. In summary 111 species are known from the region, comprising 38 snakes, 32 lizards, five chelonians, a single crocodile and 34 amphibians. The Cubango is the most western catchment and has the greatest herpetofaunal diversity (54 species). This is a reflection of both its easier access, and thus greatest number of historical records, and also the greater habitat and topographical diversity associated with the rocky headwaters. -

LIST OF REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS OF NYIKA NATIONAL PARK AND VWAZA MARSH WILDLIFE RESERVE This checklist of all reptile and amphibian species recorded from the Nyika National Park and immediate surrounds (both in Malawi and Zambia) and from the Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve was compiled by Dr Donald Broadley of the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, in November 2013. It is arranged in zoological order by scientific name; common names are given in brackets. The notes indicate where are the records are from. Endemic species (that is species only known from this area) are indicated by an E before the scientific name. Further details of names and the sources of the records are available on request from the Nyika Vwaza Trust Secretariat. These swamps currently face a number of threats, such as saltwater intrusion, yet the impacts to herpetofaunal communities have not been assessed. Saltwater intrusions into the upper reaches of coastal rivers contribute to their salinity gradients, which can influence associated plant and animal communities. Our study assessed the reptile and amphibian diversity along a salinity gradient in the upper estuary of the Savannah River to further predictive capabilities regarding herpetofauna. -
