Regional economic disparities in Switzerland are among the lowest among OECD countries. With a productivity growth of 1.7% per year over the period 2008-14, Ticino not only had the highest level of productivity in 2014 but also recorded the largest growth among Swiss regions. Following a significantly lower productivity growth (0.1% per year), Zurich was replaced by Ticino as the frontier region in terms of productivity in Switzerland in 2010. With a youth unemployment of 15.6% in 2017 that was similar to the OECD average, Lake Geneva had the highest youth unemployment in the country. Youth unemployment in Central Switzerland only amounted to 4.1%, 11.5 percentage points below the youth unemployment rate in Lake Geneva. Introduzione e obiettivi della campagna Il radon è un gas radioattivo di origine naturale, prodotto dal decadimento dell’uranio-238 presente in tracce nel terreno. È incolore e inodore e penetra negli edifici dal sottosuolo attraverso parti non stagne dell’involucro. L’effetto camino è il principale responsabile del trasporto di radon dal suolo all’interno di un edificio: l’aria calda che sale nella casa provoca negli scantinati e nei piani inferiori una depressione appena percettibile, determinando un’aspirazione che può essere amplificata da ventilatori o caminetti. Nella stagione fredda, l’effetto aspirante negli scantinati è intensificato dai riscaldamenti accesi. È classificato dall’Organizzazione mondiale per la sanità come agente cancerogeno certo ed è la seconda causa di cancro ai polmoni, dopo il tabagismo. Il rischio di cancro ai polmoni aumenta con il numero di atomi di radon presenti nell’aria di uno spazio chiuso e con la durata di esposizione. I prodotti di decadimento del radon si accumulano nel tessuto polmonare irradiandolo. Tra l’irradiamento del tessuto polmonare e l'insorgere di un cancro ai polmoni possono trascorrere anni o decenni. In Svizzera vivono circa 7 milioni di persone. Ogni anno ne muoiono circa 70’000, 17’000 delle quali di cancro. Il cancro ai polmoni miete annualmente circa 2’700 vittime di cui 200-300 casi sono attribuibili al radon.
