The band revisits the repertoire from Davis’s electric period as a framework for modern jazz innovation. Miles Davis alums include on piano Grammy Award nominee Robert Irving III; legendary P-funk guitarist and MD Blackbyrd McKnight; noted percussionist Munyungo Jackson; and Grammy winner Vince Wilburn, Jr., Davis’s nephew, on drums. Also filling essential roles in the cast are bassist Darryl Jones, recognized for his recordings with Sting and decades long tour duty on bass for the Rolling Stones; Antoine Roney on saxophone, who has toured the world with jazz veterans Freddie Hubbard and Elvin Jones; rounded out by the electronic flourishes of hip-hop turntablist DJ Logic. Drawing upon the enormous pool of talent influenced through the decades by Miles Davis, trumpet duties by design are handled by special guest artists. Trumpeter Christian Scott grew up in New Orleans and went to Berklee College of Music. He joined his first band when he was 13 and, since 2002, he has released eight studio albums and two live recordings. Positive reviews have fueled demand for the ensemble. Of their debut performance during the Miles Davis Festival in Chicago, Downbeat magazine declared, “Despite boasting a host of bandleaders in the ranks, the group played with restraint and vibe over histrionics keeping the brew on simmer ...” Of the Hollywood Bowl performance Daily Variety remarked, ”Everyone rocked and socked, and it wasn’t nostalgic in the least.” The Los Angeles Times shared, “The Miles Electric Band quickly pumped up a party vibe” noting the “festival friendly” material of Miles Davis’s electric period. The Miles Electric Band is now a featured part of the Davis family’s plan to bring Miles Davis’s music to a new generation of music lovers through festival appearances and recordings. Christian Scott made his Royal Conservatory debut on March 9, 2013, and Darryl Jones on February 12, 2011. All of the other artists are making their Conservatory debuts tonight. .

MUSIC – Muddy Waters, Rollin’ Stone via Spotify (Play 30secs then turn down) It all started with Muddy Waters. A chance meeting between 2 old friends at Dartford railway station marked the beginning of 50 years of rock and roll. In the early 1950s, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger were childhood friends and classmates at Wentworth Primary School in Kent until their families moved apart.[8] In 1960, the pair met again on their way to college at Dartford railway station. The Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records that Jagger carried revealed a mutual interest. They began forming a band with Dick Taylor and Brian Jones from Blues Incorporated. This band also contained two other future members of the Rolling Stones: Ian Stewart and Charlie Watts.[11] So how did the name come about? Well according to Richards, Jones christened the band during a phone call to Jazz News.

  • The Dead Daisies Na Festivalu Pivo in Cvetje Laško Laško, 29

  • Rock and Popular Music 1960
Rock and Popular Music 1960 - 2000 Cultural and Historic Background Information Rock music is a broad genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the early 1950s and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom. It originates from 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, a style which drew heavily from the genres of blues, rhythm and blues, and from country music. Rock music also drew strongly from several other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical styles. Musically, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass, drums, and one or more singers. Usually, rock is song-based music with a 4/4 time signature using a verse–chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political. At the beginning of the 1960s, pop and rock and roll trends of the 1950s continued; nevertheless, the rock and roll of the decade before started to merge into a more international, eclectic variant. In the early 1960s, rock and roll in its purest form was gradually overtaken by pop rock, psychedelic rock, blues rock, and folk rock, which had grown in popularity. The country and folk influenced style associated with the latter half of 1960s rock music spawned a generation of popular singer songwriters who wrote and performed their own work.

  • The Rolling Stones ‘Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live’ Släpps På Dvd Och Blu-Ray 11 November 2013
Stones levererade, med sin patenterade energi, klassiker som ”Start Me Up”, ”Brown Sugar”, ”Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, ”Miss You”, ”It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll”, ”Gimme Shelter”, ”Doom and Gloom” och ”Sympathy for the Devil”. Mick Jagger kommenterar spelningen såhär: “It was a great gig…It was beautiful with the sun going down over Hyde Park. I can’t think of a better way celebrate the Rolling Stones' 50 than doing it on our home patch in front of 100,000 people on a glorious summer night…enjoy it… we certainly did." Keith Richards säger också: “Coming back to Hyde Park was like a full circle being drawn, and the band were in top form. We thought what could be more appropriate than having a great summer in London!”

  • Newly Released on BFM Jazz Is a Dynamic Collection Titled 3 Brave Souls
Newly released on BFM Jazz is a dynamic collection titled 3 Brave Souls. This CD is a fantastic recording that is simply pure funk. Keyboardist John Beasley, Bassist Darryl Jones and percussionist Ndugu Chancler have produced a really remarkable album that is old school with a new school twist. It is fabulous. 3 Brave Souls possesses a truly unique sound. Incorporating the down to earth tones of New Orleans with the street funk of Chicago, it is a pleasing one of a kind collection. The set opens with “Black Friday”, a mid-tempo track that has a great vibe. “Come And Gone” is a mellow laid back tune. The defining elements in this selection are the string and keyboard instruments. Nothing but the soul is released on “Nail It Down.” It is one oF the numerous danceable tracks; however, it features an added surprise – a modicum of spoken word by Ndugu Chancler. One welcoming addition to this collective is the silky sounds of vocalist Sy Smith. She takes center stage on the track “Love Graces.” Likewise can be said about Gregoire Maret and his prowess over the harmonica and Darryl Jones’ vocals on the track “Stay.” He is awesome. Other featured guests are Dwight Trible, Bob Sheppard, Steve Tavaglione, Francisco Torres and Leon Mobley. Stated on John Beasley’s web site about 3 Brave Souls is: “Three generations of Miles Davis alumni having fun playing progressive roots music”—these so few words perFectly sum up the entire collection. John Beasley is a Grammy nominated musician, composer, arranger and music director who has worked with Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Chaka Khan and many others.
