Love. This simple word has always been at the center of many debates. The majority of people will say that it represents a unique life experience in relation to a particular person or group of people. Some says that it represents an ideal or a utopia. Others could say it is a material or spiritual reality, perhaps even an aspiration, or a goal in or beyond life. Even with so many contrasting opinions, love can be seen as an attribute inherently human. If love is so crucial, let’s pose a question: how do we, as humans, express it? This debate, as old as our own world, is still very much alive today. Global Talk does not seek to settle this question, but only to show it. The current issue is centered upon the theme of love and romantic relationships. It is not the love you all have heard on the radio or seen on TV. It is the love expressed in specific cultural and linguistic practices that are unique to all modern civilizations around the world. This issue represents a new Global Talk. It is mostly extraordinary because it features four new sections bringing the total count to 14: Chinese, Dutch, Farsi, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Scandinavian, Slavonic, Spanish, Swahili, Turkish, and Around the World (featuring Pilipino, Portuguese, and Thai). As always you will find new vocabulary, relevant news and information about different cultures around the world and thought-provoking articles written in diverse languages by students of all levels. Each section is distinct, but nevertheless complementary to the other.

NEWS: Lunar New Year of the Pig, Chinese Customs by Jaclyn Toh

Sunday, February 17 2007 marks the beginning of the lunar 农历新年的传统习俗很多， calendar, and is also known as the Chinese New Year.
