The Master of Public Policy programme prepares students for future leadership positions through analytically-challenging and practice-oriented courses in the areas of governance, policy analysis, management, and leadership.

The Hertie School of Governance is the professional school for public policy in Berlin. The school educates highly qualified students, as well as professionals and executives, for public leadership positions. Along with the MPP programme, the school offers a part-time or full-time Executive Master of Public Management (EMPM), executive seminars for professionals, as well as a PhD programme (Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies). The Hertie School also presents its research to the broader public via lectures, forums, symposia, and other events. The academic approach of the Hertie School is multidisciplinary, international, and practice-orientated in all fields. For this purpose, the school cooperates with partner universities, institutions, and decision-makers all over the world. The fac- ulty includes scholars from both Germany and abroad and also benefits from the knowledge of lecturers representing various disciplines.

The Hertie Foundation carries on the life’s work of Georg Karg, owner of the Hertie department stores. Founded in 1974, it is one of today’s largest foundations in Ger- many, with assets to the order of over € 800 million. In 1998, the Foundation sold its shares in the company, and has been independent since.

The Hertie Foundation sees itself as a reform body sounding out new solutions and helping towards their practical implementation. It focuses its work on the fields of Preschool and School, University and Neurosciences, Scholarship Pro- grammes and the compatibility of Job and Family. In 2003, the Hertie Foundation founded the Hertie School of Governance to institutionalize research and teach- ing on new forms of statehood and societal governance.
