  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • Big Country Book of Lyrics Was Originally Offered Online As a PDF File on a Web Site That Later Grew Into the Current Steeltown Site
D e s i g n e d b y R o b e r t O l i v e r Introduction Project History The Big Country Book of Lyrics was originally offered online as a PDF file on a web site that later grew into the current Steeltown site. Since I had not been pleased with the formatting restrictions of HTML, I had decided to create a file in Adobe PageMaker and then convert it into a PDF (Portable Document Format) file. This format allows complete control over layout and typography, but can result in very large files. Although PDF files are relatively small compared to their original documents (all of the original PageMaker files for this book total over 18 megabytes), a project as large and comprehensive as the Big Country Book of Lyrics results in an appropriately hefty PDF file. Even though I have since converted all lyrics to HTML and incorporated them into the Steeltown web site, the PDF version is still a handy and useful resource, especially when printed and bound for reference. As ubiquitous as the world wide web has become, a printed version of the Book of Lyrics is easier on the eyes, quicker to thumb through, and does not require an internet connection. Document Navigation The following methods are available for finding your way around the Big Country Book of Lyrics while using the Adobe Acrobat Reader: 1. Scan down the bookmark list on the left and click on the item of interest. 2. Use the keyboard arrow keys or the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys depending on which version of the Acrobat Reader you are using.

INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand markings or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you cornplete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

  • Interview with Peter, Paul & Mary
Peter, Paul ary HarmonyM from an Era of Protest BY ROGER DEITZ (Photos by Robert Corwin unless otherwise noted.) received an invitation to Peter Yarrows charm- many great songs. Their PBS special, Lifelines, had recently ing Manhattan apartment ... those modest digs aired, the latest in a series of the trios notable projects. It fea- known around town by admiring folkies as The tured three generations of folk artists singing side by side in House that Puff Built. This was a couple of years timeless kinship. This small gathering of press at Yarrows ago, after I had written a Billboard article about &was clearly, I surmised, an opportunity for Warner Bros. to Ferron, another Warner artist, so I just assumed this get-to- keep the buzz going, give the project legs. Thats show biz getherI with Peter, Paul and Mary was an additional press op publicity-speak. PP&Ms folk music message may be univer- request. Eagerly, I looked forward to meeting these three icons sal, heartfelt, meaningful and honest ... but keep in mind that of popular culture that championed so many causes with so the trio is a successful business after all. I dont often find myself using the words folk and successful business in the same sentence, but here I do so with a smile ... and with pride. For some reason, this union of Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers had slipped the surly bonds of folk to launch an astonishing number of important folk songs into the mainstream subconscious and onto the Billboard charts. Yet the three were anything but exploitative, pop-for-pops- sake, flavor-of-the-week artists.
