High Speed Two (HS2) has the potential to transform the economy of Leeds and Leeds City Region. However we will not realise the full benefits of HS2 unless we have a coherent and proactive plan for doing so. HS2 is part of a coherent strategy for rail improvements for the Leeds City Region, which includes upgrades of existing routes and services, and Northern Powerhouse Rail, a new fast east-west rail route across the North. 2. Improving and expanding Leeds Station is essential to ensure HS2 is integrated seamlessly with other rail services to create new rail capacity to support growth in Leeds, and to provide a high quality gateway to, and catalyst for, regeneration in the city. This paper seeks approval to the emerging proposals for a long term masterplan for Leeds Station. 3. I am directed by the Secretary of State to say that consideration has been given to the report of the Inspector, Paul K Jackson BArch (Hons) RIBA, who held a public local inquiry which opened on 4 November 2014 into your client’s appeal against the decision of Bolsover District Council (the Council) to refuse planning permission for a windfarm comprising 6 wind turbines, control building, anemometer mast and associated access tracks on a site approximately 2.5km south of Bolsover between the villages of Palterton and Shirebrook, in accordance with application reference 12/00159/FULEA, dated 25 April 2012. 2. On 20 June 2014 the appeal was recovered for the Secretary of State's determination, in pursuance of section 79 of and paragraph 3 of Schedule 6 to the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, because it involves a renewable energy development. Inspector’s recommendation and summary of the decision 3. The Inspector recommended that the appeal be dismissed and planning permission refused. The Five Pits Trail
The Five Pits Trail Walkers, cyclists and horse riders can all enjoy the countryside of the Five Pits Trail. Follow the 5.5 mile off-road surfaced route from Grassmoor Country Park to Tibshelf Ponds or extend your route to 7.5 miles by exploring the route through Williamthorpe Ponds and Holmewood Woodlands. The trail mostly follows the route of the Great Central Railway. Since the large collieries and smaller pits along the railway closed, the landscape has changed dramatically. Parts of the land were opencast and Holmewood Sculpture Funded by the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund, students from most of the original railway line removed. Deincourt School worked with artists from Gotham-D to design this sculpture. A guide and list to a collection of Historic Railway Documents www.railarchive.org.uk to e mail click here December 2017 1 Since July 1971, this private collection of printed railway documents from pre grouping and pre nationalisation railway companies based in the UK; has sought to expand it‟s collection with the aim of obtaining a printed sample from each independent railway company which operated (or obtained it‟s act of parliament and started construction). There were over 1,500 such companies and to date the Rail Archive has sourced samples from over 800 of these companies. Early in 2001 the collection needed to be assessed for insurance purposes to identify a suitable premium. The premium cost was significant enough to warrant a more secure and sustainable future for the collection. In 2002 The Rail Archive was set up with the following objectives: secure an on-going future for the collection in a public institution reduce the insurance premium continue to add to the collection add a private collection of railway photographs from 1970‟s onwards provide a public access facility promote the collection ensure that the collection remains together in perpetuity where practical ensure that sufficient finances were in place to achieve to above objectives The archive is now retained by The Bodleian Library in Oxford to deliver the above objectives. This guide which gives details of paperwork in the collection and a list of railway companies from which material is wanted. The aim is to collect an item of printed paperwork from each UK railway company ever opened. -

CAMPAIGNERS in West Yorkshire are extremely concerned about lack of progress by the Government and Network Rail on infrastructure proposals that should deliver improvements for travellers in the next few years, including the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU). Three rail user groups and the Yorkshire Branch of Railfuture have written to Andrew Haines, Chief Executive of Network Rail, who was recently been quoted as casting doubt on TRU. In a magazine interview (RAIL 897, 29 Jan’2020) Haines had said the scope of TRU could depend on the high-speed rail proposal “Northern Powerhouse Rail” (NPR). The campaigners say NPR is decades away and will not benefit stations on regional routes that desperately need investment now. RAC0010.1177/0306396819895727Race & ClassCockbain and Tufail 895727research-article2020 SAGE Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, Washington DC, Melbourne Failing victims, fuelling hate: challenging the harms of the ‘Muslim grooming gangs’ narrative ELLA COCKBAIN and WAQAS TUFAIL Abstract: ‘Muslim grooming gangs’ have become a defining feature of media, political and public debate around child sexual exploitation in the UK. The dominant narrative that has emerged to explain a series of horrific cases is misleading, sensationalist and has in itself promoted a number of harms. This article examines how racist framings of ‘Muslim grooming gangs’ exist not only in extremist, far-right fringes but in mainstream, liberal discourses too. The involvement of supposedly feminist and liberal actors and the promotion of pseudoscientific ‘research’ have lent a veneer of legitimacy to essentialist, Ella Cockbain is an associate professor at University College London in the Department of Security and Crime Science and a visiting research fellow at Leiden University. Her research focuses on human trafficking, child sexual exploitation and labour exploitation. In seeking evidence- informed responses to complex issues, she has worked closely with organisations across the public, private and third sectors. Her book Offender and Victim Networks in Human Trafficking was published by Routledge in 2018. Waqas Tufail is a senior lecturer in Criminology at Leeds Beckett University. His research interests concern the policing, racialisation and criminalisation of marginalised and minority communities and the lived experiences of Muslim minorities. He is a board member of the International Sociological Association Research Committee on Racism, Nationalism, Indigeneity and Ethnicity, serves on the editorial board of Sociology of Race and Ethnicity and is co-editor of Media, Crime, Racism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). -

Fears that began over terrorism have extended to the opening of Islamic faith schools, the meaning of clothing and halal slaughter. Critical scholarship that engages with these developments in the fields of politics and international relations tends to view them through paradigms of (in)security. Whilst these contributions have been helpful in understanding the construction of a Muslim 'problem', this article demonstrates how the array of issues incorporated by this problem exceeds the politics of security. The article develops an original conceptual and analytic framework, drawing upon Slavoj Žižek's Lacanian theory of ideology, to argue that political and media ‘scandals’ about what an imagined 'Muslim community' gets up to are best understood as ideological fantasies.
