Page 4 CATHEDRAL HOURS JUBILEE INDULGENCES: CATHEDRAL CAMPUS THE MOST MISUNDERSTOOD SPIRITUAL GIFT Sunday 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. One particular gift flowing from the Jubilee Year of Mercy Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. is a special grant of an indulgence issued from the Holy Offices, Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Father himself. Our Cathedral was designated to assist many pilgrims in obtaining the spiritual benefits attached to this SUNDAY MASS indulgence by means of entering through the Holy Door. Anticipatory (Saturday) 5:15 p.m. Sunday 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., Noon, & 5:00 p.m. The theology of indulgences, while very rich, is also quite confusing to many Catholics. The purpose of this column is DAILY MASS to clarify (and hopefully not confuse!) this teaching. It is a divinely revealed Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. & 5:15 p.m. truth that sins carry with them punishments which, on account of God’s Saturday 8:00 a.m. justice, must be expiated in some way. Saint Augustine wrote: “Every sin, SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION whether small or great, must be punished, either by man himself doing Monday - Friday 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. penance, or by God chastising him.” ( Exposition on Psalm 58, 1,13 ) Our sins Saturday 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. affect not only our souls, but produce effects in the world around us. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Tuesday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Enter Purgatory , the name given to the final purification of the elect, those who are counted among the saved, but who undergo a purification ROSARY after death, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of God. Sundays at 11:15 a.m. in the Cana Chapel and at Purgatory is a state of cleansing (from Lat . purgare , to make clean) from the 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin temporal punishment due for sins whose guilt has been forgiven, but in which Weekdays at 4:50 p.m. in the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin satisfaction for the effects of those sins is still being offered. Think of the WELCOME CENTER HOURS sins as being like nails removed from a wooden 2x4. The nail holes remain, Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (the effects from sin), whose guilt has already been removed. Following our Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. earthly lives, there exists a period of purgation by which the effects from Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
