This question is answered by applying Business and Management theory to Apple's ..---- -- corporate culture and Steve Jobs' leadership style, and then analysing this theory to find the role of these factors in Apple's success. The information required to apply this theory r mes predominantly t~m seco~ sour;;: v These sources showed that Apple has a corporate culture that is seen as highly motivational for employees as they are pushed to do their best:-This culture places the aesthetics and user experience as some of the most important parts of the final product/ service. The culture also helps motivate employees to create products that fit Apple's values, which allows the company to market its products well. j I The sources also sho~d that this corporate culture (which is a crucial part of Apple) stems from- its previous CEO, Steve Jobs. He founded the company and managed to integrate his ideals and values into the corporate culture through his authoritarian leadership style. Consumers respond very well to products based on these values (good design and usability), and since these values have become a core part of the company, they are responsible for a large part of Apple's success. This essay concludes that Apple's corporate culture has been the driving force behind (__ ~ Apple's successful products, and without Steve Jobs' leadership style this culture would not be as apparent. Therefore, both factors have been crucial to Apple's current success. In a 1 short time, Apple has gone from an "underdog" business to a market leader • Apple is successful not only in the computer market, but also in the tablet, smartphone, media 2 player and media store markets • Apple's products don't only cater to consumer desires, but help fo~m, and so they have an effect on the whole mark~ . For other technology businesses, it is worth the effort to-examine Apple as they p1ay a large role in most of the markets they enter/ I will be looking at Apple predominantly in the context of the human resources topic of the ~ Business and Management syllabus. While doing the early research for Ws"" e~s~y' it became clear that Apple's organizational structure and culture form a large part of its image and both are talked about often in the technology industry. Apple's products and services are the sources of its profits and success - the marketing of them is also very important, but the products themselves form the core of this success. For this reason I will focus on the management and culture of the research & development areas of Apple, as they are the source of Apple's products and services.

AUSTIN – BACKGROUNDER Executive Summary The Goldwater Institute has been on the cutting edge of using anti-subsidy provisions of state constitutions to eliminate an egregious taxpayer abuse called “release time.” Release time is a practice where government employees are “released” from the jobs they were hired to perform to work exclusively for government unions – all while receiving taxpayer funded salaries and benefits. While on release time, government workers are paid to increase union membership, engage in political activities, lobby the government, file grievances against their employer, and negotiate for higher wages and benefits, among other activities. Release time exists at the federal, state, and local level. The Institute’s litigation successfully ended the practice of release time in Arizona. But the practice of release time is prevalent in many other states, including Texas. Release time exists throughout Texas, and is particularly pervasive in the City of Austin, among three separate union groups: police, fire, and EMS. This case is a taxpayer challenge to the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Austin (“City”) and the Austin Firefighters’ Association (“AFA”). Plaintiff taxpayers argue that release time constitutes an unlawful subsidy to a private entity under the Texas Constitution. The primary goals in this litigation are to eliminate release time and build favorable anti- subsidy case law in Texas that can be used to address abuse of taxpayer funds and other forms of government cronyism. Wiley is one of the leading contemporary American artists, reworking the grand portraiture traditions of Western culture. Wiley began his first series of portraits in the early 2000s during a residency at the Studio Museum in Harlem. He set out to recast young African American men from the neighborhood in the style and manner of traditional history painting. Since then he has also painted pop culture stars, although his primary focus remains ordinary people in their own clothes and style. Trained at Yale in the 1990s, Wiley brings a strong understanding of traditional painting techniques to an interest in contemporary issues of identity and power. Wiley’s portraits recreate the poses of European aristocrats, contrasting elaborate and ornate backgrounds with contemporary subjects in their own clothes. Abstract: This essay contributes to the debate about the alleged spillover effects associated with Wal- Mart’s growth. Combining county-level data on Wal-Mart entry and location from 1985 through 1998 with individual-level data on leisure activities, we estimate a positive relationship between Wal-Mart penetration and participation in activities involving inputs that can be bought at Wal- Mart. The relationship between Wal-Mart penetration and activities that do not involve inputs that can be bought at Wal-Mart is negative in most cases but may be positive or zero for “cultural” activities such as attending classical music concerts and visiting art galleries. The evidence is consistent with the thesis that deeper Wal-Mart penetration expands consumption possibilities. Yiran Meng Project submitted as partial requirement for the conferral of Master in Finance Supervisor: Professor Pedro Leite Inácio, ISCTE Business School, Departamento de Finance January 2017 Resumo De um modo geral, os modelos de avaliação inserem-se em duas categorias: avaliação absoluta e avaliação relativa. Sob cada critério, existe uma ampla gama de modelos. Para se poder definir o valor justo das ações da Apple, vários modelos são aplicados, como Fluxos de Caixa Descontados e Múltiplos. Os indicadores-chave financeiros demostram que a Apple mantém uma margem de lucro elevada mesmo recentemente, enquanto que se prevê que a concorrência na indústria eletrónica irá ficar mais renhida no futuro próximo. Quanto à estrutura do capital, a Apple tem, nos últimos anos, aumentado as suas dívidas continuamente, e o crescente ROE resulta da combinação do efeito da alta rentabilidade com o efeito de alavanca. Grande parte dos modelos de avaliação demonstram que as ações da Apple continuam subvalorizadas, com o preço justo estimado mais alto que o preço de mercado. Apesar da empresa ter sido alvo de comentários de suspeição após o falecimento de Steve Jobs, prevê-se que o preço das ações da Apple valorizem, e, a longo prazo, atinjam o seu valor justo implícito. Dado o facto que modelos diferentes têm resultados também diferentes, as suas hipóteses e limitações também diferem entre si. Apesar da Apple ser considerada uma empresa madura, a sua proporção de pagamentos de dividendos é baixa, e não existem dados históricos suficientes para prever dividendos futuros, tornando assim o resultado proveniente do DDM pouco fiável.
