Reckitt is emerging much stronger, as a more resilient and purposeful company. We made significant progress in 2020 in building the foundations for future growth. We have added exceptional leadership talent at the top of Reckitt and across many of our geographies to help steer the company through this transformational stage. We are investing in capabilities and have organised ourselves to become more focused and purpose-led. Business performance Full year net revenue was £13,993m, with growth of +11.8% on a like-for-like basis. This was underpinned by strong performances from both Hygiene and Health; despite mixed markets, Nutrition also made good operational improvements while separating from Health and integrating Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements. The performance uplift reflected the outstanding way our teams responded to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), meeting the substantially increased demand for some of our brands through sharper execution, expanded capacity and better customer service. Together with our ongoing investment in our digital capabilities, this enabled us to deliver a stronger underlying performance across our portfolio of brands. Adjusted operating profit was £3,301m, at an adjusted operating margin of 23.6%, MOVING down 260bps on last year in line with our guidance and reflecting planned investment across many areas as laid out by Laxman in the strategy presentation in February 2020. Our business made solid progress on many fronts. It is an early indicator that the FORWARD strategy announced last February is gaining momentum and yielding positive results. We remain focused on delivering our strategy. Although it is too soon to be definitive, we believe that much of the additional demand we saw during 2020 for our Hygiene and Health TOGETHER brands is likely to be sustained even after the pandemic. We are accordingly investing in additional capacity and in expanding our Hygiene and disinfection business into new geographies and business segments. For our Nutrition business, we delivered good growth in North America and from our Vitamins, WITH PURPOSE Minerals and Supplements portfolio, although the operating environment in China continues to be challenging for our infant formula products. As a result, Laxman and the team are conducting a strategic review of our infant formula activities in China and we’ll act on the conclusions of this in due course. In the meantime, our focus is on sustaining the wider investments for growth that have already started to yield benefits with renewed innovation, such as our first adult nutrition product, launched in December.     RB partners with Veolia to drive a circular plastics economy Reckitt Benckiser (RB) and Veolia have today announced their partnership to drive the shift to a circular plastics economy. The partnership with Veolia is another step RB is taking to fulfil its pledge to make 100 percent of its plastic packaging recyclable and to contain at least 25 percent recycled content by 2025. Veolia and RB started working together two years ago to work on increasing the use of postconsumer recycled plastic in RB’s packaging. The first offering from the partnership is the new packaging for Finish Quantum. The packaging now contains 30% recycled plastic and is proudly grey in colour because RB has decided not to add masking pigments or additives to the packaging. The companies will continue their collaboration on designing for recyclability and the maximization of post-consumer recycled content. To accelerate the circular plastics economy, a team of 20 experts from RB and Veolia are also working to develop enhanced collection systems, driving behaviour change to aid consumer sorting habits and improving recycling from households. “The partnership between Veolia and RB Hygiene Home brings together our complementary capabilities to drive ​ a positive contribution to the circular economy. The company entered into the contraceptive market acquiring Durex brand globally and had started to run that business since Nov’12. Durex has been making highest quality condoms for nearly 80 years. With over 30% of the global branded condom market, it is the number 1 condom brand in the world. However despite dominant market position globally, the brand has the challenge to change the perception of Indian consumers and channel partners regarding sexual well-being (male contraceptive) to normalise the category and drive growth. The current market share of Durex is around 4%1 in India, a market which is underdeveloped compared to other markets regarding the category size and growth. The brand team acknowledges that there is a lot to be done to make the brand a formidable player in the sexual well-being (male contraceptive) category. A recent study commissioned by the Durex brand marketing team has thrown up some interesting facts about the category dynamics and challenges in marketing condom in India. The UK-headquartered maker of Nurofen painkillers, Strepsils lozenges and Durex condoms on Wednesday said it had acquired Oriental Medicine Company for an undisclosed sum. Reckitt said the cost was modest as it announced the deal in annual results, featuring a 2 per cent increase in pre-tax profits compared with 2011 and a 7 per cent rise in the dividend. However, it still represents an eye-catching diversification for a western consumer goods group and comes in the wake of Reckitt’s purchase of Schiff Nutrition International, a US vitamin company, for $1.4bn late last year. Rakesh Kapoor, chief executive, said Reckitt had to keep up with changing consumer behaviour: “People think about their health in much more holistic terms. It is about how do you lead a more balanced life.” Oriental Medicine’s main remedy was a sore-throat powder, he said. The company makes all its sales in China, the group added. Western companies have been showing growing interest in China’s traditional medicine sector. In November Nestlé agreed a tie-up with a traditional Chinese medicine company controlled by Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing. Although Reckitt one day hopes to use Oriental Medicine as a sales platform for its western healthcare products in China, Mr Kapoor said it was too early to say if Reckitt would seek to sell traditional Chinese remedies outside China.
