Box-Behnken design of experimentation was adopted to optimize nutritional sources, physiological (incubation period) and microbial (inoculum level).The experimental results and software predicted enzyme production values were comparable. Incubation period, inoculum level and nutritional source (soybean) were major influential parameters at their individual level. Interaction data of the selected fermentation parameters could be classified as least and most significant at individual and interactive levels. All selected factors showed impact on l-asparaginase enzyme production by this isolated microbial strain either at the individual or interactive level. Incubation temperature, inoculums concentration, and nutritional source (soybean) had impact at individual level. Email: [email protected] Abstract: The work was carried out to determine the stability of two seed quality traits (seed germination and field emergence) in 14 sesame genotypes that were grown in three plant population environments in Abeokuta, southwest Nigeria in each of two seasons. Seeds harvested from each environment were tested for these quality 2 traits. Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance of Finlay-Wilkinson regressions and stability analysis. Each genotype was defined by three stability parameters: (1) mean seed germination and field emergence over all environments, (2) the linear regression (b values) of genotype mean seed germination and field emergence in each environment, (3) the mean square deviation from the regression for each genotype (S2d value). The genotypes varied considerably in the two seed quality traits and genotype x environment (GxE) interactions were significant. Regression coefficients ranged from 0.19 to 1.70 for seed germination and 0.14 to 3.01 for field emergence. Genotype 530-6-1 with a regression coefficient close to unit (b=1.03), smaller S2d value and a relatively high seed germination of 79% had general adaptability and somehow averagely stable. The highest field emerging genotypes proved less stable and selection solely for high emergence could result in discarding many genotypes that were relatively better adapted to environmental changes. Genotypes 530-6-1, i 73A-11 and C-K-2 were identified as desirable for seed production in all the three plant population environments. Genotypes 69B-88Z, Domu and 73A-97 were identified as desirable genotypes for cultivation in 133,333 plants ha–1 environment, C-K-2 in 166,667 plants ha–1 environment and 93A-97, 73A-11, 69B-88Z and C-K-2 in 266,667 plants ha–1 environment to obtain seed of high and stable germination and emergence. These genotypes were superior in seed quality and therefore deserve a place in commercial seed production and future seed

This is an update of the Hawk-Moths flying in the transect between the cities of Karwar and Dharwar in northern Karnataka state, peninsular India, based on and following up on the previous fairly detailed study made by T.R.D. Bell around Karwar and summarized in the 1937 FAUNA OF BRITISH INDIA volume on Sphingidae. A total of 69 species of 27 genera are listed. The Western Ghats ‘Hot Spot’ separates these towns, one that lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and the other further east, leeward of the ghats, on the Deccan Plateau. The intervening tract exhibits a wide range of habitats and altitudes, lying in the North Kanara and Dharwar districts of Karnataka. This paper is also an update and summary of Sphingidae flying in peninsular India. Limited field sampling was done; collections submitted by students of the Agricultural University at Dharwar were also examined and are cited here .

This unique ability has granted the species the name, the “Immortal Jellyfish”. T. dohrnii exhibits an additional developmental stage to the typical hydrozoan life cycle which provides a new paradigm to further understand regeneration, cellular plasticity and aging. Weakened jellyfish will undergo a whole-body transformation into a cluster of uncharacterized tissue (cyst stage) and then metamorphoses back into an earlier life cycle stage, the polyp. The underlying cellular processes that permit its reverse development is called transdifferentiation, a mechanism in which a fully mature and differentiated cell can switch into a new cell type. It was hypothesized that the unique characteristics of the cyst would be mirrored by differential gene expression patterns when compared to the jellyfish and polyp stages. Specifically, it was predicted that the gene categories exhibiting significant differential expression may play a large role in the reverse development and transdifferentiation in T. dohrnii. The polyp, jellyfish and cyst stage of T. dohrnii were sequenced through RNA- sequencing, and the transcriptomes were assembled de novo, and then annotated to create the gene expression profile of each stage.

FAUTIN his ancient phylum of mostly marine organisms is best known for its contribution to geomorphological features, forming thousands of square Tkilometres of coral reefs in warm tropical waters. Certainly, most New Zealanders will have encountered cnidarians when rambling along beaches and fossicking in rock pools where sea anemones and diminutive bushy hydroids abound. In New Zealand’s fiords and in deeper water on seamounts, black corals and branching gorgonians can form veritable trees five metres high or more. In contrast, inland inhabitants of continental landmasses who have never, or rarely, seen an ocean or visited a seashore can hardly be impressed with the Cnidaria as a phylum – freshwater cnidarians are relatively few, restricted to tiny hydras, the branching hydroid Cordylophora, and rare medusae. Worldwide, there are about 10,000 described species, with perhaps half as many again undescribed. All cnidarians have nettle cells known as nematocysts (or cnidae – from the Greek, knide, a nettle), extraordinarily complex structures that are effectively invaginated coiled tubes within a cell.

Esta dissertação faz uma análise linguística destas obras à luz das teorias humorísticas mais correntes (Incongruência, Superioridade, Alívio, Teoria do Humor Semântico Baseado no Script e Teoria Geral do Humor Verbal), mostrando o modo como a narrativa macaense faz uso de técnicas como personagens-tipo com características linguísticas típicas do universo macaense, figuras de estilo, repetições e uso de léxico de línguas de substrato para marcar um contraste com o português, criando assim um universo narrativo e linguístico muito próprio da comunidade. Além disso, uma análise sociolinguística revela diferentes atitudes face a línguas e culturas circundantes e ao próprio crioulo. O português é retratado como uma herança histórico-cultural respeitada, algo que se vê na sua representação hiperformal. O inglês é visto como uma língua de oportunidades económicas para os jovens. O cantonês e os seus falantes, embora com forte presença demográfica em Macau, são retratados com algum desprezo, havendo uma tentativa de afastamento. Por fim, o próprio crioulo e os seus falantes são retratados como pouco sofisticados e antiquados, mas detentores de uma identidade única e a preservar em Macau.
