Renniks Plate Note

26004 Australia Commonwealth of Australia 10 Pounds ND (1918) Pick 6b R52a PMG Fine 12. A scarce note in every aspect with only four graded examples registered in the PMG Population Report. The serial number between W601407 and W1000000 indicates this example is R52a in the Renniks Australian Coin & Banknote Values guide, which indicates there are only 3 surviving examples of this variety. Excellent features are still seen on this early, historically important note. Splits and minor rust are noted. Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer chose this note to illustrate on page 125 in their book, Australian History 1901 to 2001 As Seen Through Australian Banknotes. It also serves as a plate note in the 25th Edition of the Renniks reference book. From The Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of World Banknotes (12,500-17,500) Starting Bid: $6,250

Though the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money does not make a distinction after the signature variety (the Cerutty-Collins signature combination is the second), the Renniks Australian Coin & Banknote Values guide categorizes this example with the bold serial number font and a W suffix as the third variety, and indicates that only 31 surviving examples are known. Finest Graded, High Denomination Rarity

26006 Australia Commonwealth of Australia 50 Pounds ND (1918) Pick 8d R67c PMG About Uncirculated 55. An extremely desirable type, seldom seen in any grade and eminently collectible due to its unusually high face value. Four varieties for this denomina- tion were issued between 1914 and 1940, with this being the final. Notice the large, sans serif serial numbers, which were indicative of the final wave of issue for this type. Because stocks of this high denomination were not in demand, issuance was very slow, which allowed this denomination, along with the 20 and 100 Pounds, to be released well past its normal lifespan, and certainly well beyond that of its lower denomination counterparts. In fact, bank records indicate that only 608,000 notes were printed and released until the end of World War II. The enormous face value at the time, coupled with economic conditions, forced the redemption of these notes, leaving only a scant few to be enjoyed by collectors today. Incredible condition is seen on this example, with fresh colors, crisp paper, and only the briefest traces of circulation. Great embossing and a lone pinhole are mentioned in the comments on the back of the third party holder. At the time of cataloging, this example is by far the finest graded of only three examples in the PMG Population Report. An utterly spectacular banknote. From The Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of World Banknotes (40,000-50,000) Starting Bid: $20,000

Fantastic Highest Denomination Type

26108 Fiji Government of Fiji 20 Pounds 1.9.1948 Pick 43d PMG Very Fine 20. A famed King George VI and British Commonwealth rarity, seldom seen due to its enormous buying power at the time. Almost all Commonwealth realms capped their banknote series with a 5 pounds denomination, with Fiji being a glaring exception. It is not known why Fiji issued both 10 and 20 pound denominations, but issuance was limited and the overwhelming majority of notes were redeemed by 1969. We have never offered this denomina- tion in issued form, and only a few are known to exist. All six dates for this denomination feature the B/1 prefix, with this example having the fifth date and the serial number 42,937, which indicates how few examples were issued each year, and in grand total. At the time of cataloging, PMG has only grad- ed three examples of this denomination: one from 1943 and two from 1948. Excessively Rare British Commonwealth Type

26193 Turks & Caicos Islands Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands 1 Pound 12.11.1918 Pick 3b PMG Very Fine 20. Turks and Caicos is known to Americans and Europeans as a sparsely populated and simply beautiful vacation spot, but that is typically where the discussion ends. However, this small British Overseas Territory, at the tail end of the Bahamas Islands chain, has an interesting history that dates back to 1512. The British finally wrestled complete control of the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos in 1799, both and direct and indirect administration have occurred since. Colony-specific banknotes were first prepared for the Turks & Caicos from 1903 until 1928, when Jamaican banknotes replaced local issues. To fully understand the rarity of any Turks & Caicos issue, it is important to note than the population of the colony was between 4,500 and 6,000 people during the lifespan of these banknotes, which is an indicator of how few were actually issued. Between 1903 and 1928, 5 Shillings, 10 Shillings, and 1 Pound denominations were issued, with print totals per date varying, but assuredly in small batches. In 1930, Jamaican banknotes replaced the local issues, and in 1950, British Caribbean Territory banknotes replaced the Jamaican issues.

This one pound note is the first Turks & Caicos Islands banknote in any format submitted to PMG for grading. Minor restorations were tastefully applied to ensure that this banknote would be preserved for future generations to enjoy. This is truly one of the greatest rarities of the British common- wealth and most likely missing from all collections. According to our records, this type was only auctioned once before when the Dauer’=s purchased it in the Christensen sale (ex Amon Carter) in 2009. It is also the Pick plate note in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. From The Drs. Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of World Banknotes (30,000-40,000) Starting Bid: $22,000
