Huia Water Treatment Plant replacement Questions and answers Updated: May 2019 Introduction Planning is underway to build a water treatment plant and two storage reservoirs in Waima, west Auckland. The treatment plant will replace an existing plant that was built in 1928 and is reaching the end of its operational life. As with the existing plant, the new plant will treat water from four dams in the Waitãkere Ranges. The water produced by the plant will feed into Auckland’s metropolitan water supply network, meeting up to 20 per cent of the city’s water needs. The primary objective of the project is to replace the ageing plant. In doing so, we will ensure the continued resilience of Auckland’s metropolitan water supply network. This network is served by five treatment plants, numerous reservoirs and pump stations, and a highly-connected network of pipes. It means that if one treatment plant has an operational issue, the other treatment plants can meet the city’s water needs. Huia Water Treatment Plant is a vital part of this network. The new plant will offer more advanced treatment processes and will be easier to operate and maintain than the current plant. It will be carefully laid out to ensure service vehicles can move around the site safely and staff can access each treatment process safely and easily. Hokianga Ecological District (N.Z.) 2 Foreword This report describes the significant natural areas of the Hokianga Ecological District as surveyed between 1994 and 1995. Northland contains 18 mainland Ecological Districts, each characterised by its own landscape type and ecological makeup. The most distinctive feature of the Hokianga Ecological District is the Hokianga Harbour, New Zealand’s fourth largest harbour. Originally a large drowned valley, the harbour is long and narrow, surrounded by dense mangrove forest containing some of the largest saltmarsh areas left in Northland. -

The track runs from a bend in Te Ahu Ahu Road just before the A- frame house. The track follows the old bridle path on a steeply graded descent to Watchman Road. -
Recent Evolution of the Mangawhai Spit Dune Field
(i;"~Journ(l! vf thr R(~ya/ So{/"t'f}' (!l ,'"nt' 2m/and Volume Iii, Numba 4, 1'188, fJp IYi·II,( Recent evolution of the Mangawhai Spit dune field Development of the Mangawhai Spit dune field since about 800 years B.P. is reconstructed on the basis of palaeo-environmental evidence. A buried soil with abundant charcoal beneath the present high dune suggests the former existence of forest on a low hilL Radiocarbon ages of charcoal samples are consistent with destruction of this coastal vegetation around 800 years B.P. Sites containing Kaharoa ash, assumed age c. 650-670 years B.P., usually overlie undifferentiated dune sands, indicating that dunefield development had already begun at that time. A number of middens (shell refuse heaps) dated to c. 400years B.P. are now found on isolated sandy pedestals near the coast. At the time of their origin it is assumed that there must have been a foredune closer to the sea than the nearest one now is. Net east to west movement of sands has resulted in a large deflation surface near the coast, and the development of a 50 m high dune burying the former low coastal hill and associated soil. INTRODUCTION The use of biological and geomorphic evidence in the reconstruction of past environments and climates is well established in New Zealand. However, such evidence may also be important in both supporting, and extending, archaeological finding, concerning the age and impact of pre-European human activities on the New Zealand landscape (Sutton, 1987; McGlone, 1983a). McGlone (1983a) has reviewed the palynological evidence of Maori impact on forests and coasts in general. -

Universitv of Auckland SUMMARY - Drillhole information and of gravity data, photographs and satellite images show that the Ngawha Geothermal Field and the area nearby consists of a series of faulted blocks of different sizes. The locations of the volcanism and a possible intrusion, as well as the hydrology of the Ngawha system, are controlled by the geometry of the fault blocks. Overlying Rocks: In the mid-Northland area, late Cretaceous-Tertiary age sedimentary rocks of largely INTRODUCTION marine origin cover extensive areas of the basement (Figure 1) and unconformably overlie the Waipapa Group The Ngawha geothermal system is located within the rocks.
