to providefor the declaration ofthe Kakinada-Puducherry stretch ofcanals comprising ofKakinada canal, Eluru canal, Commamur canal, Buckingham canal and the Kaluvelly tank, Bhadrachalam-Rajahmundry stretch ofriver Godavari and Wazirabad- Vijayawada stretch ofriver Krishna in the States ofAndhra Pradesh and TamilNadu andthe Union TerritoryofPuducherry to be a national waterw0" and also to providefor the regulation and development ofthe saidstretch ofthe rivers and the canals for the purposes ofshipping and navigation on the said waterw0" and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

BE it enacted by Parliament in the Fifty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows :-

1. (1) ThisAct may be calledthe NationalWaterway(Kakinada-Puducherrystretch Short title and of Canals and Kaluvelly Tank, Bhadrachalam-Rajahmundry stretch of River Godavari commencement. and Wazirabad-Vijayawada stretch of River Krishna) Act, 2008.
