ICF Hindu Temple of Oklahoma Calendar of Events 2012 Vaishno Devi Temple ICF Hindu Temple of Oklahoma Calendar of Events 2012 Vaishno Devi Temple The first mention of the Mother Goddess is in the epic Mahabharat. When the armies of Pandavas and Kaurvas were arrayed in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Arjun, the chief warrior of Pandavas upon the advice of Sri Krishna; meditated upon the Mother Goddess and sought Her bless- ings for victory. This is when Arjun addresses the Mother Goddess as ‘Jambookatak Chit- yaishu Nityam Sannihi- talaye’, which means ‘you who always dwell in the temple on the slope of the mountain in Jamboo’ (probably referring to the present day Jammu). Navratri Festival is cele- brated every year in Katra, the base camp of Sri Mata Vaishno Devi. On this auspicious occasion entire Katra town is decorated tastefully and people from the region participate in large numbers. In order to visit the Holy Shrine of Mata Vaishno Deviji, one has to reach Katra, a small town situated around 50 kms. from Jammu, the winter capi- tal of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Katra serves as the base camp for the yatra. Katra is well connected to Jammu and Jammu, in turn, is well con- nected to the rest of the country by air, rail, and road. Earlier, Varanasi used to be known as Kashi, perhaps this is the reason the shrine is popular as Kashi Vishwanath. Vishwanath Temple has been mentioned in the holy scriptures for numerous times. In the Hindu religion, the temple is regarded as one of the most important places of worship. As per the Hindu folklore, the temple must be visited once in the entire lifetime. A holy dip in Ganga River along with the 'darshan' of Lord Vishwanath is regarded as the leading way to 'Moksha' (salvation). Due to this reason, people seek to visit the place at least once in their life span. Some of the festivals celebrated are Mahashivaratri (Shivaratri is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun (Feb or March) every year. On the auspicious day, devotees observe fast and keep vigil all night. Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the 'Tandava', Rangbhari (Amalaki) Ekadashi, Annakoot, Makara Sakranti, Shravan Masa, and Akshaya Tritiiya. Akshaya Tritiiya is considered as one of the four most auspicious days of the Ve- dic Calendar. It is the third day of the new moon of Vaishakh month (April-May). Varanasi is an important and major rail junction. The city is served by trains from all metros and major cities across the country. New Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Gwalior, Meerut, Indore, Guwahati, Allahabad, Lucknow, and Dehradun. The nearest airport is Babatpur Airport. Rameshwaram According to a popular legend, it was Lord Rama who installed this Linga here. Story goes that when Lord Rama was on his way to attack Ravana, he reached this place where he made a linga of sand and worshipped it. It is said that when Lord Rama was drinking water on the seashore there was a celestial proclamation - "You are drinking water without worship- ping me". Listening to this Lord Rama made a linga of sand and worshipped it and asked to be blessed so that he could vanquish Ravana. Lord Shiva blessed him accordingly. He also requested Lord Shiva to reside eternally here so that entire mankind should benefit from it. Shiva then manifested himself as the Linga and got installed there for eternity. According to yet another legend, while returning to Ayodhya, Rama worshipped Lord Shiva in the form of a Shiva Lingam made of earth by Sita. It is said that Hanuman was entrusted with the task of bringing an image of Viswanathar from Benares. Anticipating delay in Hanuman's return from Benares, Rama offered worship to a Shivalingam at a pre-chosen auspicious moment. This lingam is referred to as Ramalingam and the town is known as Rameshwaram. The following festivals are observed with greater glory and pomp in Rameshwaram. Masi Sivaratri - this festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Mahalaya Amavasai - last day of Mahalaya Paksham, Thai Amavasai, and Thirukalyanam. Rameshwaram Temple is situated in the island of Rameshwaram, off the Sethu coast of Tamil Nadu and is reached via the Pamban Bridge across the sea. The huge temple is known for its long ornate corridors, towers, and 36 theerthams. • I. Teej and Liberation of Women the People of Nepal Comprise a Great
    I. Teej and Liberation of Women The people of Nepal comprise a great variety of races, religions, castes, cultures and languages. Such a diversity of the Nepali society predates the formation of the present state of Nepal. Geography, along with historical processes, seems to have greatly conditioned ethno- regional and cultural formation of the country. Diversities of land - high mountains, plains, deep rivers and dense forests have already fostered several isolated cultural pockets within its territorial span. As a result, several independent and semi-independent but scattered principalities with relative ethno- religious and cultural identity of their own have been existing. Over the period, they have gone through various socio- cultural process and historical intervention. Every country is dominant with certain language, custom, religion and caste. CBS report has stated that in Nepal the chief religions are the Hindu, Buddhist and the Muslim though Christianity is being practised for several decades which are the global influence of religion and culture. The most dominant religion „Hindu‟ is one of the chief religions in the world. In this regard, Axel Michaels comments, “Hinduism is counted as one of the world religions. With more than 663 million followers, it even forms the third largest religious domination-after Christianity (1.67 billion) and Islam (881 million). The „Hinduism‟ is based on the scriptures like the Vedas, the Puranas, the Upanisads, the epics like the Mahabharat, and the Ramayana and also on the philosophies of saints and Hindu priests as well as Brahminical way of life. Teej is the festival and ritual especially for the Hindu women, celebrated on the third day after the new moon in Nepali month of Bhadra Sukla Trayodasi (August).

NOTICE. Having completed the Udyoga Parva I enter the Bhishma. The preparations being completed, the battle must begin. But how dan- gerous is the prospect ahead ? How many of those that were counted on the eve of the terrible conflict lived to see the overthrow of the great Knru captain ? To a KsJtatriya warrior, however, the fiercest in- cidents of battle, instead of being appalling, served only as tests of bravery that opened Heaven's gates to him. It was this belief that supported the most insignificant of combatants fighting on foot when they rushed against Bhishma, presenting their breasts to the celestial weapons shot by him, like insects rushing on a blazing fire. I am not a Kshatriya. The prespect of battle, therefore, cannot be unappalling or welcome to me. On the other hand, I frankly own that it is appall- ing. If I receive support, that support may encourage me. I am no Garuda that I would spurn the strength of number* when battling against difficulties. I am no Arjuna conscious of superhuman energy and aided by Kecava himself so that I may eHcounter any odds.
