PASTORAL CORNER OCTOBER 18, 2020

Update and Gospel Reflection by Father Dominic Savio, H.G.N. Happy to meet you through Our Lord God Almighty. Since the pandemic uprooted us we have been regularly offering our prayers for each and every member of our parish family. We hope God has received all our prayer intentions and there is gradual change in our way of life. Since the pandemic we are maintaining social distancing and not able to meet each other, but our love and prayers were never hindered. We did not stop praying for you. For a few weeks we offered the Eucharist privately. Then we carried our services online. Even though we were physically far we remained united through prayer. Prayer helped us to bond together. Later, through God's grace, we gathered in groups of up to 50 members. But, still there was a small dissatisfaction. Now, God has answered our prayers and we are happy to say that the group limit has increased to up to 100, spacepermitting. Continue praying that God continues to restore our lives, and helps us to lead normal and prayerful lives. Why do people protest against their government? People protest because they feel that they are not being given what is due them by their government. For example, people expect the following from their government leaders: honest governance, effective delivery of basic services, leadership, competence, and so forth. The moment these expectations are not met there will be discontent sooner or later. However, if these expectations are met, there will be peace and progress and they will honestly pay tax to the government. In the gospel Jesus is asked, “Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?" Jesus asked for a coin and said, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?". They replied, “Caesar’s”. Then Jesus uttered this famous line: “So, repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God” (Matthew 22:21). All along Jesus knew their deceitful plan to entrap Him based on what He would say. That’s why He told them, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?” (Matthew 22:18). So, Jesus gave them a wisdomfilled answer, “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God” (Matthew 22:21). If the government is meeting our expectations, let us do our duty by rightfully paying our taxes and by obeying it’s laws. But, we also have to be vigilant so that we would not be abused and fooled by our government, whose leaders swear to serve it’s people. What is our obligation towards God? We have to always honor Him by following His two greatest commands: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. And love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37, 39). We show our love for God by our pious presence at Holy Mass, by reading the Bible and other reading materials that relate to God, by praying the Rosary, and by the prayers that emanate from our hearts. We show our love for our fellow men by helping them in whatever way possible. We always have to honor our obligation to God for the simple reason that, unlike the government that sometimes does not satisfactorily fulfill it’s obligation towards us, God has always been fulfilling His obligation to us. Are you able to fulfill your obligation to God?

FAITH FORMATION

Children’s Weekly Gospel Reflection: In today’s Gospel Jesus is asked whether it is lawful to pay taxes to the Romans. The questioners were trying to trick Jesus into saying something that would be unlawful to either Romans or to strict Jews like the Pharisees. But Jesus shows that he is cleverer than his questioners. He reminds us of what is more important than the question of paying taxes M loving God. We should all follow the rules, but it is most important to follow God.

STEWARDSHIP Operational Note

Starting with the Masses this weekend, we will be able to increase the indoor seating capacity to up to 100 people while maintaining the six (6) foot physical distancing between each person/family. Please remember, maintaining the six (foot) physical distancing will continue to have a large impact on the seating capacity in some of our churches and our Ushers will help direct to seats as we work to maximize the seating and continue to maintain the safety of everyone. We thank each of you for your patience, flexibility and continued vigilance with the safety protocols.

As always, we thank everyone who is able to give!
