Jani Lane is just the latest of many Rockers to leave the world way too young. I thought in light of this that this month's TALKBACK SECTON would take a look back at some other Rockers who checked out way too young. Let's take a trip down memory lane:

12/1/93 - Singer: Ray Gillian dies from Aids related complications. While he never appeared on record with he was briefly a member of Black Sabbath's touring band when he briefly replaced legendary Singer: in the band. Following his gig with Sabbath Gillen briefly worked w/Ex / Guitarist: in Blue Murder but eventually Gillen left Blue Murder and formed BadLands w/Ex / Guitarist: Jake E. Lee. Badlands released two before Gillen decided to leave because of friction that developed between Lee and Gillen. After 's death BADLANDS released a 3rd and final called DUSK which was an album's worth of material of unreleased studio outakes. Diehard fans should try and get their hands on this release. Interestingly enough a few years after Ray Gillen's death December 1st was declared World's Aids Day.

2/5/ 98 - Slaughter Guitarist: Tim Kelly was killed in a car accident. Kelly played on Slaughter's first four studio albums and two live releases. Kelly was traveling down an Arizona highway at the time, hit head on and died from massive head injuries. The other driver who hit Kelly's car and killed him and had been drinking and had three different types of drugs found in his system. The Driver who killed Tim Kelly only received a 3 year jail sentence. How's that justice for you? 3 years for a human life. Since Kelly's death he was replaced in Slaughter by Guitarist: Jeff Blando who remains with the band to this day. Slaughter's final studio album was REVOLION and Drummer: Blas Elias has since left the band and joined The Blue Man group in las Vegas but both Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum remain in Slaughter as well and the band still performs from time.

3/26/2002 - Drummer who had played with /Ozzy osbourne//Motley Crue after it was discovered that he had cancer in his jaw. For a while the Cancer seemed to be in remission but then it was later discovered that the Cancer had come back and he would eventually lose his battle with that ugly Cancer. At the time of his death Randy's final album that he had just released was Motley Crue's . For a 10 year period Randy Castillo was the Drummer and one of the main in Ozzy Osbourne's solo band. At the time of his death Castillo was rumored to be working on a new band with his Ex Ozzy bandmate : who has since found great success as the Bass Player for Alice In Chains.

4//5/2002 - Alice In Chains Singer: Layne Stayley dies from a drug overdose. At the time of his death Alice In Chains had been inactive for many years because of Stayley's drug addiction which was the band's reason that they were unable to tour. When Stayley's death was first announced the surviving members of the band weren't sure if they were going to carry on or not. Eventually Alice In Chains decided to carry on when they found a new Singer in William Devoe.

6/6/2002 - Ex Ratt Guitarist: dies from Aida related complications and a Overdose. Robbin Crosby played on the first 5 Ratt albums and was one of the band's principle songwriters in the band. He co-wrote many of the band's biggest hits to date. In 1990 Robbin Crosby was let go by the rest of the band because of his heroin addiction. Following his departure from Ratt Crosby made several attempts to get his musical career going again but never succeeded in doing so. His drug addiction always seemed to get in the way of that happening. As he stated in Ratt's SPECIAL his drug addiction which caused him to become HIV infected from use of a dirty drug needle cost him his career, his life, his sex life. He went on to say that he was living in a one bedroom shack in North . Robbin Crosby is one of many who achieved his dreams and lost everything he had because of drugs. Robbin Crosby's story is just one of many to come to such a tragic end. Since his death many of his fans and former Ratt bandmates have gone on the record of saying what a great guy Crosby was and how vwey much his

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 4 death has effected them and how much they miss him but nobody was able to save Robbin Crosby from his drug addiction which is what eventually cost him his life.

11/25/2007 - Singer: Kevin Dubrow is found dead in his Las Vegas home. It was announced that the cause of death was an accidental overdose. Following the announcement of Dubrow's death Quiet Riot Drummer: Frankie Banalli announced that he had decided to disband Quiet Riot and that Quiet Riot would not continue without Kevin Dubrow. Banalli stuck to that until 2010 after going through old video footage of QUIET RIOT. It was at this time in 2010 that Frankie Banalli announced that he was going to ask Quiet Riot fans to help him fund a documentary about Quiet Riot and Kevin Dubrow. The necessary funds were raised and the documentary is currently being put together for a 2012 release. In 2/2011, Quiet Riot returned to live action with their new Singer: Mark Huff who was discovered in a tribute band 5150. Banalli has said that his reasons for putting Quiet Riot back together is because he missed playing the Quiet Riot songs and so he could pay tribute to the musical legacy of Kevin Dubrow every night. The band pays tribute to Dubrow in concert each night when they perform "Thunderbird" and dedicate the song to both Dubrow and the band's original Guitarist: .

2/5/2010 - Dirty Looks Bassist: Greg Piankar is stabbed to death in a bar fight. Dirty Looks was a great band who had a real AC/DC vibe but unfortunately the band never broke out in a major way. Dirty Looks is a band that had a lot of promise but unfortunately, Lady luck never was on this band's side. I think Dirty Looks would make for a great episode of VH1's Behind The Music because in addition to Greg Pinakar's death on 9/27/2011 Lead Singer: Henrik Ostegaurd died from Liver failure. At the time of Henrik's death Dirty Looks had just re-released their first 3 albums and there was talk of a new studio album to be made but of course that was never to be.

5/16/2010 - Singer: loses his battle with stomach Cancer. Within minutes of his death being announced fans and fellow musicians start posting their thoughts/tributes to the legend that was Ronnie James Dio all over the internet. Ronnie James had a 40 plus year career having played in Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven And Hell. At the time of his death Ronnie was playing in Heaven And Hell which was basically the Dio era fronted Black Sabbath that was forced to use a different name after Ozzy and threatened legal action if the band used the Black Sabbath name. The band had a bright future ahead of them. Since his death Ronnie's Wife and Manager: Wendy has continued to oversee Ronnie's legacy. Her latest effort to do so is the Dio Diciples which is the surviving band members with Singer's Tim Owens and Toby Jepson who play Ronnie's music from rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio to continue to keep the music of Ronnie James Dio alive and well.

8/11/2011 - Ex Warrant Singer: Jani Lane is found dead in a Motel room and it seems that the Singer's death was brought on after years of heavy drinking. While at the time of his death Jani Lane was no longer a member of the band: Warrant he was still to many the face and voice of that band because Jani Lane wrote all those Hit songs that the band had. At the time of his death Lane seemed to be on the urge of making a comeback. It was reported he was working on a new solo album, had written songs for . Jani Lane's final public appearance was on VH1's . While he appeared to be a little frail on that show he seemed to be in great spirits saying "Hey I'm just glad to be here" . The irony is just a few weeks later he'd be found dead all alone in a Motel room. Please read more about Jani Lane in our special tribute to him in this very issue.

Please write in to us and tell us what your thoughts are on all these fallen stars from Rock's glory days.

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 5 “I was a great admirer of Jani Lane. He wrote some really touching songs and he was such a great singer - much underrated in my opinion. I always wanted to work with him. Such a shame, he had so much to offer the world. To me, Jani belonged to a rare breed of musicians that understood what being an entertainer is really all about. He'll be sadly missed. “ Jamie Mallender

"I'm completely shocked at the news of Jani Lane's passing. While it is always sad to hear of those that have passed that were musical influences, I am always more saddened by those passing who were so significant in shaping an entire music genre and Jani Lane was one of those musicians. These are the individuals you learn from, admire, and strive to emulate in your achievements. To be a contributor that creates an eternal effect on people through music is every 's goal and Jani was one of the chosen few to have such an impact on our generation. Being a myself, I have always admired Jani in that respect as well as the fact that he was an incredible vocalist. I got to meet Jani once, when he and Bobbie Brown attended one of my band's shows in New Orleans. While just briefly, I remember thinking to myself how much I wanted to strive to be known as such a songwriter one day. While he is now gone, his songs and influence will live on forever. RIP Jani. You will be missed by many." AJ Caruso

R.I.P. Jani Lane (singer/songwriter, entertainer. Rock Star.)

Jani Lane is best known as the talented writer of eighties catchy hooks (SEE: Cherry Pie), ballads (SEE: Heaven), and overall great rock n’ roll (SEE: Uncle Tom’s Cabin). One of the few bands that “made it”, Lane and Warrant were one of the lucky few and Jani seemed to understand this, embracing the role of rock star. Lane, the musician started early (later training on vocals), but it was his writing that should be remembered. All it takes is one or two listens and that hook is staying with you throughout the day.

The past few years of Jani Lane’s life were well documented and at times messy. Still, after each bump there was Jani, writing and performing, sharing his gift of entertainment. Regardless of where Lane was in his life I suspect a notebook was never far away.

When I look back on Jani Lane I think of the video for . In the video we see the band wearing matching black jackets and then there is a sequence (couple seconds) where a homeless man is next to a burning barrel. That’s it, back to the band. What exactly happened here? I like to think that there was a budget for a main actor to play the homeless guy and instead Jani Lane got the guys together and said “Fuck it! Let’s spend the money on cool leather jackets!”

Jani Lane, a talent we will miss. (SEE: Rock Star)

Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 6 I met Jani in 1990 he was a kind and gentle person we chatted and I told him how I loved his voice and power! he thanked me and we said goodbye. I suppose my favourite Warrant song would be 'Uncle Toms Cabin' I love the mood and lyrics of the song he was a true talent David Reece

Jani Lane just taped my tv show, "That Metal Show" on VH1 Classic. I found him bright, interesting and extremely likeable. An easy guy to root for. He seemed like he had turned the corner on his personal problems so I'm really bummed to hear of his passing. Definitely underrated as a songwriter. Rest in peace rocker. Don Jamieson

What shocking news about Jani. You just never know when your time is up. I knew Jani. I created their original Warrant logo, the one they used right before they released their first album. I believe it can be seen on the in the "Down Boys" video. I wasn't close with Jani, I hung out with the other guys a lot more.

My only statement would be "I'm saddened by the passing of Jani Lane. I knew him briefly in the earlier days of Warrant. He was driven, ambitious and always knew exactly what he was aiming for. I never knew him to be anything other than clear headed and upbeat. It's a loss to the rock n roll community and to the fans who loved him." Curtis Don Vito

Colby Veil It is impossible to not feel a connection as we watch and listen to someone extraordinary sharing their hopes, dreams, and fears with us as we live out our own through the gift of songs. No words just memories in the end, but Magic lasts forever. Jani Lane - Thank you adding such a beautiful glow to the world of music. You will sparkle no matter where you shine. My love and condolences to your daughter & family. God Bless. Colby Veil

Dean Kramer I first met Jani when they were on their tour for the debut record. My band at the time "Cat House" was contacted by our agent about traveling down south (from MD) to open several shows in the Carolinas. They already had "Down Boys" on MTV, but hadn't broke out yet ('88?). Being a guitarist, I tended to talk shop with Eric/Joey, saying hello to Jani, but not much more. He was certainly nice to me... During one of the sound checks I commented to one of them that they should release "Heaven", to which I got a response that they were actually getting ready to do just that. Of course, we all know what happened after that, and that was the last contact I had with any of them.

As for my personal thoughts on Jani as a musician/singer, I think he wrote two pretty damn good records (debut & Cherry Pie-I like the first the most...). As a singer I think was way, way underrated. His range, tone, melodic sense-all top notch. I guess the time period in which he was most famous clouded peoples view on his true musicality. Last time I saw him perform was at M3 at Merriweather Post and MD, last year. He was much better than he'd been in the years prior. In fact, he was just plain good! Perhaps he could never quite see what so many others saw in him or perhaps couldn't handle life's ups/downs or it's pressures... I do hope that someone will get something out of his passing, with regard to the use of drugs/alcohol...I think that might actually have brought him some peace...if he were still among us. Rest in peace, Mr. Lane, and thank you for all the joy that you've brought into my life throughout these past 20+ years. It'll be sad to listen to "" and, of course, "Heaven"... Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 7 Most Hard fans have probably heard the name Phil Soussan but may not realize just how many high-profile gigs this legendary Bassist has had over the years. Most hard Rock fans first became aware of Phil Soussan back in 1984 when he replaced in Ozzy Osbourne's solo band. Phil played on Ozzy Osbourne's 1986 release: The Ultimite Sin and wrote Ozzy Osbourne's first #1 song "Shot In The Dark" which appeared on The Ultimite Sin. In this exclusive interview w/Chaotic Riffs Magazine Phil Soussan talks about his gigs with Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Neil, , as well as his own solo career. In this interview, you'll find out why Phil Soussan left Ozzy Osbourne's band after only one album and tour. Phil also discusses his longtime friendship with Motley Crue frontman: Vince Neil, briefly being a member of Vince Neil's solo band, being one of the primary Songwriter's on Vince's EXPOSED album, and what led to his departure from The Vince Neil Band. Phil also discusses current Projects such as BIG NOIZE, Drum Wars, and his most recent solo CD: No Protection. Phil gave such a great interview, had so much to talk about that we had to make this into a 2 part Interview. Part 1 will discuss Phil's latest solo release: No Protection and the music industry today. Part II will discuss the band's he's been in throughout his career and some of his more recent projects.

JROCK: Why don't we start off by talking about your new CD which is titled: No Protection. Could we talk a little bit about how you got your record with Flavored Nations which is 's label?

PS: - No Protection is an album I started writing about 3 years ago. It was also recorded over the last 3 years as well. I played all the instruments on it myself with a couple of exceptions of here and there. I got the deal because Steve had heard the record and liked it and the people who run Flavored Nations for him asked if I would be interested in getting a deal with them and after we talked for a while I said "Yeah ok I'd love to this". Steve is a very stand up guy and at this dang age I don't know I'd trust too many people in the record industry. So I do trust Steve and that's kind of how that all came together.

JROCK: Ok so I was curious have you ever actually met Steve Vai? PS: - Oh yeah, oh sure.

JROCK: Ok and now like you were saying with the music industry being what it is today do you think it helps being signed to a label that's owned by someone who is a musician themselves rather than a label that's owned by just a guy in a suit?

PS: - Well there have been a lot of labels that have been run by musicians but I really consider Steve to be someone who's just a really good human being. He's a very honest, very brutally honest guy with a lot of spiritual beliefs. So above and beyond being a wonderful musician he's just a wonderful human being.

JROCK: Now as far as the songs on No Protection I'd like to ask if these songs were all written specifically for this album or if these are a selection of songs that you've had laying around for a while now?

PS: - No, all the songs on No Protection were specifically written for this album. They were all written over a period of one year I'd say. That's the difference between this album and my last one. The last album was really a collection of songs that had been written over a long period of time.

JROCK: So would you say that because all the songs on No Protection were all written specifically for the album in the same period of time that there's a more cohesive sound to the new album?

PS: - Oh definitely.

JROCK: So as far as the recording of the new album did you record it at a home studio or what?

PS: - Yeah it's a home studio. I have a studio at home which is really functional as far as mixing, overdubbing, to surround mixing to mixing music for feature films. I've already done music for 3 or 4 feature films here. Computers and technology being what they are today you can do all that stuff without having to use large consoles and spending a lot of money.

JROCK: You mentioned that you played most of the instruments on the album. Let me ask you did you play the Drums as well?

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 8 PS: - Yeah and it was the encouragement of , who I'm really good friends with that I did it. When I originally went into record the demos I asked Simon to play on them and he then asked me "Why don't you play drums on the tracks?" He then gave me a kit and I said "Ok, we'll see how I get along." I played drums on everything. There were 4 tracks that really weren't as good as i would have liked them to be and Greg Bissonette (Ex David Lee Roth/) and he came up to the house and played on those 4 tracks.

JROCK: So let me ask you when you play the drums since you're known primarily as a Bass Player are you as confident playing the drums or would you say it's more of you're learning as you go along?

PS: - Yeah I'm definitely learning as I go. I'm not really a great drummer. Having said that though I know some basic drumming but more importantly I think I really understand time and for me a great Drummer has always been a guy who can just play in fantastic time and in the pocket. The hardest thing for me is going to be find a great Drummer and Bassist to play live because when I play live I'm going to be playing guitar.

JROCK: When you're playing live or even recording an album and playing the Bass do you try and lock in with the Drummer and have a really great rhythm section like you're saying?

PS: - Absolutely, I mean that's the hardest thing for me and it's only because I'm spoiled because I have played with some really great Drummers. I've just been very, very fortunate in regards to the people who I have played with over the years. You know Randy Castillo, my mate and friend from Ozzy's band we really played tight together.

JROCK: So when you first started playing guitar and Bass did you take lessons or would you consider yourself to be self taught?

PS: - No I was self taught.

JROCK: Being that you're from England I have to ask were you into the big British bands or were you more into the American Rock bands?

PS: - No, I went through periods of being into different styles of music. To me my education in music I got into everything from 50's Rockabiliy to fusion and progressive. I went through everything as much as I could because I just loved everything. There was a period when I was into a lot of American bands. I was probably in my early 20s when I was like 19 to 23 and I had friends who turned me on to Boston and very early Journey ,Reo Speedwagon, and . I really loved Aerosmith's Rocks album and stuff like that and another Aerosmith album I still love to this day is Rock In A Hard Place which is the album they recorded without Joe Perry. So I guess I was able to hear some pretty cool stuff.

JROCK: Now Phil I can see that you're a fan of various different types of music and you've played in various types of bands. Do you feel that has helped you in your career?

PS: - It's been a double edged sword because what happens is that you tend to do a lot of different things and then some people will stylize themselves one way and one way only and I think that's kind of cool but then when you stop and look at the other man's grasp and you look just at your own you realize that the journey you take is much more diverse and it's highly interesting. I do a lot of film music now and other things and that really helps me in doing film music because I'm not shied off to doing any one style of music. I mean I can appreciate a country guitar player as much as I can appreciate death metal, solo shredding, or anything else for that matter and you know I like that.

JROCK: You seem like a guy who plays for the song and not just to show off your playing.

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 9 PS: - Yeah I'm not a guitar player so I can't do that.

JROCK: So would you say that doing music for films is a faster/easier way of making money these days compared to being a touring/recording musician these days?

PS: - Well these days I think it's easier to make money if you're a touring musician than it is if you're a songwriter, someone who just sits around and writes songs because people are just copying songs. People aren't buying albums anymore and people are used to just giving away music now for free. It's very hard to sell albums and because of that the CD and album have pretty much became a thing of the past so I think if you play live people will go to the gig and pay to see that and they'll probably pick up some merchandise or they'll pick up your CD so you'll make some revenue that way but if you were a band like Steeley Dan these days I don't think you'd even get the band off the ground these days.

JROCK: That's just such a shame. I understand that your new CD: No Protection is initially being released only digitally and that people can purchase hard copies of the CD through your site. Are you happy with the response the Cd has gotten so far?

PS: - As far as the hard copies of the CD people can get that through both my site and CD BABY. The response has been really good. Look people who know about my first album have jumped out and they've bought it.

Shortly after the news first broke that Ex WARRANT SINGER: Jani Lane had died I contacted Ex WARRANT DRUMMER: James Kottak who now plays with THE SCORPIONS. It was an honor and privilege to get the chance to talk with James but I'm very sorry it had to be to discuss the passing of his good friend and former WARRANT bandmate Jani Lane. James was a very close friend of Jani's which is why I was very pleased when he agreed to take part in this special tribute to Jani Lane. It's nice to put a human side to this story. Jani Lane like many other talented musicians before him died way too young! As James Kottak himself states in this very interview as a Songwriter Jani had so much more to say! Many people have contributed touching tributes to Jani here but I was glad I had the opportunity to speak with someone who personally knew Jani. In talking with James it quickly became very clear to me how close he and Jani were and how Jani's passing has effected him. James had many great stories about Jani that he shared with us and it became crystal clear to me just how much James Kottak thought of his fallen friend and how very much he mourns the loss of his good friend Jani Lane.

JROCK: Ok James first of all could you talk a little bit about how you first got the opportunity to join WARRANT?

JK: - Basically how that happened was when I was in KINGDOM COME we were on tour and we had just released our second album and we had the opportunity to go out and tour as Kingdom Come and WARRANT and it was right when WARRANT was breaking so it was a very exciting time for us. It was 1989 and I had known Jani from back in Tampa, FL from back in like '84 in a band called Plane Jane so I knew of him from before. Anyways we went on the road with WARRANT and we all became fast friends, we just all got along really great. So we just all really hit it off and had a lot of fun.

JROCK: So you said you knew Jani from before, was that from before he was in WARRANT or what?

JK: - Well that was back in like '93 or '94 in Tampa, FL. and my band Buster Brown used to play down there. That's where I first met Jani when he was in his band Plane Jani. Jani was originally a Drummer back then. I think Jani came out to LA way before me and all of a sudden I started seeing these Ads for this band WARRANT and they were playing two nights down at The Country Club and they were trying to get a record deal back then.

JROCK: So was that the version of Warrant with Jani or before he joined the band?

JK: - No that was with Jani.

JROCK: So when you saw those ads and realized oh wow I know that guy what did you think of that first WARRANT album when it first came out?

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 10 JK: - Actually I didn't put two and two together and realize that was Jani from Florida. When the first WARRANT album came out it was like wow this is really cool! Unfortunately in LA a lot of people thought they were nothing but a glam band but I always thought that they were really good.

JROCK: What did you think of Jani's talent as a Singer/Songwriter?

JK: - Jani as a Singer I thought was awesome also as a frontman he knew how to get a crowd going and just frenzy that. He was just an incredible vocalist! I really loved his voice.

JROCK: Could you please share with our readers what you remember most from the recording of WARRANT's ULTRAPHOBIC album which is the album you played on?

JK: - Ultraphobic, actually just prior to that I had been working with Jani on some solo stuff and then there was talk of a WARRANT album and tour and Jani then decided to put all his solo stuff on hold and me and Rick Steir both joined the band simultaneously. We then mainly started working with Beau Hill and Jani just got started on his songwriting and the rest of the band got to work on riffs and stuff. We did it at a studio in North Hollywood and I just remember the energy level was just great! It was like wow this is cool, we're like a band again, everyone's professional and we're ready to go on the road! I thought the album was just excellent! It's one of my favorite albums that I've ever played on!

JROCK: Being that you knew Jani prior to joining the band did it make it that much better for you to join the band? I mean would you say you had a great vibe as far as playing together?

JK: - Oh yeah of course.

JROCK: As a WARRANT fan myself I felt when you joined the band that you were such an over the top drummer that you really fit into the band but when you first joined WARRANT were you at all worried about how accepting the fans would be to you or about them comparing you to , the band's original drummer?

JK: - I wasn't at all worried about being compared to Steven Sweet because I felt I brought enough of my James Kottak stuff into the band. Steven Sweet is a great solid Drummer, singer/songwriter but Jani gave me the green light and told me "I want you to play the James Kottak way." So I just had the greenlight to do whatever I wanted to do.

JROCK: So like I said James I thought you were a really great fit for the band so why did you decide to leave after only one album and tour? Was that when you got the offer to join The Scorpions?

JK: - No, actually I chose to leave just because of some business reasons. We were all getting along just great. There was just some problems with the management and other things I didn't like and I just felt that my time would be better spent pursuing other things.

JROCK: Now let me ask you when you met Jani for the very first time what was your very, first impression of him? What really stood out to you about him?

JK: - The thing about Jani is that you'd be talking to him and he'd always be thinking about the next day, he could be talking to you looking you straight in the face and you'd always know that he was thinking about something else. He was like a creative mad man. While he was finishing up the writing of one song he'd already be in the middle of writing the next song. If you were talking about the show that night he was already talking about the next night's show.

JROCK: So after you left WARRANT did you stay in touch with Jani much?

JK: - Well at that time Rick Steir had stayed with them and they continued to do tour after tour and then of course for me The Scorpions came along which was a blessing for me and yeah we did stay in touch. What ends up happening is that you get working and going out on tour so you don't always talk but yeah we kept in touch.

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 11 JROCK: Over the last few years it was well documented than Jani had a heavy drinking problem. When you were in WARRANT with him, did you see any of this or is this something that happened later in his life?

JK: - Well I hate to say it but we all had problems with alcohol. In Warrant we were all drinking like fish. It was just something we did after the gig. It wasn't like Jani was ever too drunk to play.

JROCK: Like I said who really knows what the truth was but it was well documented over the last few years that he had a heavy drinking problem and had been sufering from depression. So how shocked were you when you first learned of his death?

JK: - Honestly it was a real shock to me because over the course of the last few months he had been talking to me about re-recording some of The Jawabacky stuf with him. I always believed in Jani and always believed he was very talented and he was always very confident. When I was playing with him he was always 100%, everything was apparently very cool. He did though start drinking very heavy, and then he got his DUI but you can't tell somebody what to do. Of course we all have problems but I thought he had gotten over it because he was talking to and me. He was actually going to be part of my documentary and so yes it was a complete shock to me.

JROCK: I think it was very sad that it was reported that he died all alone in a Motel Room. Do you think Jani had any idea how loved he was? I mean do you think he realize just how many fans he had?

JK: - Well here's the thing, when you're in a band I mean I don't think "Oh I've got all these fans" I think you're right and that he really didn't realize what he had. That's why it's just so important to really continue to play live so you can stay active. I know that Motel, I know that Comfort Inn and I guess apparently he thought "hey I'll go check out with a bottle, check in to a motel and apparently that's what he did.

JROCK: Knowing Jani as you did do you think he'd be at all shocked by the outpouring of love from his fans all around the world and fellow musicians such as yourself being so upset over his passing?

JK: - Do I think he'd be shocked? No I don't think he'd be shocked, I think he'd be very appreciative of it.

JROCK: I recently saw Jani on a VH1 interview say something like Cherry Pie is probably the biggest hit song I ever wrote but I regret writing that song because it's become my legacy and I'm now known as The Cherry Pie guy.

JK: - It's funny because I've heard people talk about that but Jani wasn't really complaining about writing the song "Cherry Pie" it's just that as a Songwriter he felt he had so much more to say.

JROCK: And James is there something that you and Jani experienced together that you'd like to share with our readers?

JK: - Oh God this is such a great story! Ok so one night we're on tour down south somewhere like Panama City, we played the show and then after the show we partied at the bar til’ the wee hours of the morning and it wasn't too far from the beach. Anyways me, Rick Steir, and Jani were like "Hey let's go to the beach" so we go down to the beach and at some point we fell asleep on the beach and we're lined up like one, two, three, right next to each other and Jani was laying in the position where his hand was on my stomach and my shirt was off and we were all beat red and Jani's hand print was burnt on to my stomach.

JROCK: Now when you choose to remember your good friend Jani Lane how will you remember him?

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 12 JK: - I'll remember Jani Lane as the guy who broke my nose. Jani was sitting next to Rick Steir on a curb and when he was trying to get up he head butted me, breaking my nose. He felt really bad and apologized for like a week. He generally felt bad. I will also remember him as a very talented Singer/Songwriter/performer, and he was just a really great front person! That's the Jani I will always remember! – Nadir

In their place, we put a wrap-around couch and a table bolted to the side of the bus with some of the original chairs positioned around it. Perhaps the most drastic modification we made was the conversion to let the bus run on vegetable oil as well as diesel gas. I would like to believe it was an eco-friendly decision we made to use less gasoline, and that was certainly a part of it. However, I think the most influential motivating factor was the constantly rising gas prices. We thought the Grease-Car conversion would lower our transportation costs.

Unfortunately, the person we got to install the system did not speak much English, which made communication with us a little difficult. He didn't read any German, which is unfortunate since the directions for installing the system were in that language. When he completed the install, we tried our best to make sure he was confident in the work done, and it did work—for a while. After a few weeks, the system stopped working effectively. Once, the gasket on the canister that held the scalding-hot oil blew open and sprayed most of the cab with liquid death. I was amazed that our lead singer (who happened to be driving and was therefore right next to the Grease-Car assembly) didn't get scalded at all. He definitely should have bought a lottery ticket that day. www.theinfluence.com

Interview by

Katz: Be the Ant is such an original name for a band. Does the name have some type of meaning?

Lehi and Jared: Be the Ant is derived from Proverbs 6:6 which means contribute, and contribute to everything you do.

Katz: How was the band formed?

Lehi and Jared: It was formed in January 2010 in Denver Colorado and the band is composed of brothers.

Katz: Does the bands’ songs relate to religious themes?

Lehi and Jared: No, our songs are about a lot of things, most of them being life experiences and reactions to them. We are all about family, love, and life.

Katz: Is being in a band with family members aggravating at times.

Lehi and Jared: We have a strong relationship and we are committed to the success of the band. Since we all live together, it helps with song writing and rehearsals. It is the best collaboration we could ask for.

Katz: What is your advice to other bands just starting?

Lehi and Jared: Balance what the band is good at and where they need to improve, spend time together in order to know each other well, and visualize the band as a relationship. Be there for each other during the good and bad times.

Katz: What have you learned from performing?

Jared and Lehi: We learned promoting is huge, use online to promote, set a rigorous playing schedule and do not play too much locally.

Katz: Your new album cover is very unusual. Can you describe the reason why it was created for the album?

Jared and Lehi: We wanted to use a powerful symbol that represented the roots of life, a strong theme throughout the record, so we chose to do an Adam and Eve scene.

Katz: If you could tour with any bands, who would you select?

Jared: , Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, or that guy from The Monkees.

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 25 Book Review: Unhappy Endings by Jizzy Pearl

“Unhappy Endings” is the latest collection of tales from author and lead signer, Jizzy Pearl.

Jizzy Pearl tells the fictional short stories of life in the arena in a way only a man who lives it can. And Pearl has done that for a third time with his digital book release titled “Unhappy Endings”, now available for the Kindle. Offering sex, drugs and rock and roll – the oft traveled rock front man gets right to the point in print with no fluff. Performing as the front man of hard rocking acts that have included L.A. Guns and Adler’s Appetite; Jizzy brings the backstage shenanigans from his pen to the paper.

Some of the highlights include “Pills For All Ills” a talk show where the host has a pill for whatever ails you. “The Platinum Club”, a story of aging rock and roll groupies, “Caligula, Fran and Ollie” brings anal sex to the forefront. If I had to pick one story as a litmus test of whether the reader will enjoy these stories I would start here. Should you pass the test then move on to “The Prettiest Girl in the World”, a short detailing a young girl who throws kittens out windows and tortures baby birds by holding a knife to their throats.

Hidden within these stories is the novella “Unhappy Endings”, a tale of four boys growing up as many suburban boys do: smoking pot, listening to music, hating school. Fast forward a few years and three of the boys have grown up and have “adult” live. The other, well, he feels like he was left by his friends, attempts to reconnect, and turns this story of innocence into a full verse of horror. This story alone is worth the download. The book ends with a somewhat autobiographical dialogue and a few rant pieces, but it doesn’t really matter because by that point if you are still reading as I was you are hooked.

Drenched with wit and pushed boundaries, you may feel violated after reading “Unhappy Endings”. Of course after reading the story titled “Seduced”, we learn being violated is not always a bad thing.

“Unhappy Endings” is loaded with humor and first hand knowledge that may make fans of Bukowski and Burroughs cringe or blush. Bottom line, this book is a great collection for fans of Transgressive fiction and well written haunting shorts.

JROCK: Ok Danny you're the Guitarist in a band called HEADCAT which also features MOTORHEAD Singer/Bassist: Kilmister as well as Ex DRUMMER: Slim Jim Phantom. Could you please talk a little bit about DBH: - Well I think the people from NIJI how the band got together? ENTERTAINMENT saw the LEMMY Documentary and that's where a lot of DBH: - We just have a new album out but it started 10 years people really became aware that Lemmy ago, actually 11 years ago when me and Slim Jim went in to had a side project. A lot of people didn't do a tribute album to Elvis Presley so we decided to get a lot know about the Headcat until The Lemmy of our friends and people we've known over the years to do Documentary came out and then the people Elvis songs. Slim Jim was friends with both Lemmy and up at NIJI which were Wendy and Dean first Johnny Ramone so Jim called them up. I talked to Johnny got exposed to it and then they found out and we did two songs together. We did "Vivia Las Vegas, that we had a new album that we had just "Good Rock Tonight so then Lemmy came in and much to my finished up and that we were looking for a dismay I did "Viva Las vegas" in the wrong keys. We had so label they were really excited, they really much fun togethert the Jim, Lemmy and I decided we should came on and they approached us that they just do a whole album together. So we did the first album really wanted us on their label because they which came out originally in 2001 and then was just re-issued were big fans of the band and big fans of in 2006 with all the remastered stuff and then our new album the album. So they have been really Walk The Walk And Talk The Talk just came out this year in positive. So with the success of the 2011 so you should check that out. documentary and since it came out they've really been behind the band. No one really JROCK: This album seems to be getting a little more press. knew about the band until after the Why do you think that is? documentary came out. A lot of people didn't know about us until after it was DBH: - First off the first album was on a much smaller label, a released. much smaller budget, It was basically all covers and we really hadn't developed as a band yet. On the first tour we probably JROCK: Now you mentioned that Johnny played like 50 or 60 shows. We then went in and did this Ramone was involved with the first album and had 2 original songs on this album and we're now HEADCAT album. How big of a RAMONES a much better live band. We're also now on a much better fan were you? label which is Niji Entertainment group and then from getting with a label like that we're now actually getting out there and DBH: - I was a huge Ramones fan. I mean I getting the opportunity to promote the album and get it out to liked them when I was in High School and radio stations. then when I went to new York I got to be great friends with Joey and I was just JROCK: So did Wendy Dio just recently get involved with always a huge fan of theirs. HEADCAT or has she been involved from the getgo?

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 28 JROCK: And when you were recording the first album was DBH: - Actually we don't do any MOTORHEAD songs. Johnny already sick or did he get sick after the album came Up until this point Lemmy has been very animent out? about keeping MOTORHEAD and HEADCAT separate. We do, do "" as HEADCAT DBH: - Johnny only had two songs on that album that he so we do, do a STRAYCATS song. Our version is a played on. At the time I don't know if he was already sick. I lot different than THE STRAY CATS version though don't think it was until a few months later that Joey because Lemmy plays an electric Bass. (Ramone) called and told me that Johnny had found out he had Cancer but as it now turns out those two songs were JROCK: What has been the response to you guys the last two recordings that Johnny ever made. when you play live?

JROCK: Now let me ask you about Lemmy. How aware DBH: - We've really crossed across all genderas of were you of Lemmy and Motorhead before working with him music. A lot of the fans that show up are the Metal in HEADCAT? fans that are fans of Lemmy and then there are a lot of fans that are fans of me and Slim Jim and DBH: - Well when I was about 13 years old I was into this then we also always get a lof of The Punk fans band HAWKWIND which was Lemmy's band prior to because Punks just love Lemmy and MOTORHEAD MOTORHEAD so when he started MOTORHEAD I knew so we kind of get this big mixture of Punks and Hard Lemmy from HAWKWIND. I was just a HAWKWIND fanatic. Rock and Rockabilly fans but everyone likes it. A lot of people describe what we do in HEADCAT as sounding like MOTORHEAD doing 50's songs. JROCK: So now that you guys are being managed by Wendy Dio is there any chance of you guys getting JROCK: So you're kind of the guy in the band that people an opening gig on a bigger tour or something like know the least about. You mentioned that you're originally that? from Kentucky. So what was it like growing up there and who were the bands who influenced you when you were DBH: - That I really don't know. Our touring schedule growing up? depends a lot on MOTORHEAD'S touring schedule.

DBH: - When I was growing up I liked Jimmy Hendrix, Led JROCK: So how has the album been selling? Zeppelin, I liked The YARDBIRDS. Now also being from Kentucky I got exposed also to country music and then DBH: - It's been just fine and dandy and the record when I got to be about 18 I got exposed to Rockabilly music company is very happy. As a matter of fact they're which was Rock N Roll and Hillbilly music and all of a quite ecstatic about it. sudden it really made since that Rock N Roll and Hillbilly music went together. So my first band was called Levi and JROCK: So for people who want to buy the album the Ripchords and Brian Seltzer was also the Guitarist in what's the best way to get the album? the band for a few weeks. This was way before The STRAYCATS were ever together or had ever recorded DBH: - I know if people go to BEST BUY that BEST anything. So me, Brian, and Slim Jim were all starting out at BUY carries the album you can go on-line and get it at the same time. I stayed with Levi and The Ripchoards and www.amazon.com as well. they went over to The Tom Cats which became The STRAYCATS. So Slim Jim and I have known each other JROCK: And now let me ask you Danny what do you since I was 18 and he was 17. think of old school Cds vs. digital downloadable music? JROCK: Were you ever asked to join The STRAYCATS? DBH: - I prefer the old school. I like something that I DBH: - No, no, no The STRAYCATS that was Brian's band. can hold in my hand. i mean I have MP3's and I listen to them at my house but it's kind of odd for me to play JROCK: So let me ask you when you guys perform live do music and not have something you can pick up and you play any MOTORHEAD or STRAYCATS material or do look at the booklet. you just stick with The HEADCAT material?

I think it's really fun studio and kind of jam things out until the songs to play for people who really don't know that much come together? about me and who really don't know what to expect. DBH: - Well Lemmy writes all the lyrics because JROCK: And are you finding that a lot more people he's the Singer and he has to be able to get behind are starting to become aware of you through the lyrics that he's singing and then Slim Jim and I do HEADCAT? get involved with the music. DBH: - Oh yeah. JROCK: Lemmy's a very talented songwriter. I mean he can write a song like "ACE OF SPADES" JROCK: So now that you guys have this album out do and then he can also write a beautiful Ballad like you plan to make HEADCAT a permanent thing where "Mamma I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne. fans can expect more albums from the band down the Would you say you've learned anything from having line? worked with Lemmy?

DBH: - HEADCAT is already a permanent thing and DBH: - Lemmy I mean he's 65 years old, he plays LEMMY is already talking about working on the next over 200 shows a year, he never complains, he's album but it all revolves around MOTORHEAD'S never late, he's never on an ego trip, he's just such a schedule and just depends on if we're going to do 2 professional. Just someone of Lemmy's stature to shows a year or 20 shows a year. love music this much never complain because there's no reason for anyone playing this kind of JROCK: Where's one place in the world that you'd like music to be complaining. I use him the example of to play that you've never played before? why I just continue to love doing what I do. DBH: - I've played all over Europe but the one place JROCK: You mentioned that you were a Jimi I've never played before MOSCOW and I'd really love Hendrix and I know that Lemmy used to be a Roadie to play Russia one day. for Hendrix. Did he ever talk about that with you? JROCK: Now obviously Lemmy has MOTORHEAD DBH: - Oh yeah Lemmy told me a couple of stories and Slim Jim has other projects he's working on. Do about him and one story in particular I always get a you have any other projects that you're working on that kick out he told me about was one of the first shows you'd like to let our readers know about? they were doing in London were setting up behind the stage and no one really knew who Hendrix was DBH: - Well I did just finish recording a solo album that at the time, it was kind of like a showcase Lemmy I hope I'll be releasing one day soon and when I'm not said I'm a Roadie and then looking out from behind playing with HEADCAT I do perform solo shows as the curtain he looks out into the audience and there's well. Mick jagger, , Paul Mc Cartney, Jeff Beck, and all their entourages and that were all JROCK: So has there been any talk of the band these really big rock stars from that time out in the putting out a live DVD or something of that nature down audience going really nuts even though they had no the line? idea who Hendrix was at the time. DBH: - Well I've heard that the record company was JROCK: Now Danny let me ask you...Obviously talking about filming the upcoming London show for a people coming out to see HEADCAT know Lemmy DVD and then we've talked about also shooting a DVD from MOTORHEAD and Slim Jim from THE on the SUNSET STRIP in Hollywood because Slim Jim STRAYCATS but you're kind of the one member of owns a club down there called The Cat Club. So the band who most people know very little about. there's been some talk of that. What's that been like for you?

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 30 JROCK: So Danny is there anything else that you'd like to say to all your fans out there?

DBH: - Just that I'm glad that the album's out and that NIJI Entertainment is behind us and that I hope everyone gets a chance to hear the album.

JROCK: Now let me ask you one final question since you are working with Wendy Dio. Did you ever get the chance to meet Ronnie James Dio?

DBH: - Yeah I met Ronnie about 2 years ago. I was always a Ritchie Blackmoore fan from Blackmoore's Rainbow so when I met Ronnie I was really, really happy. I told him I was just such a huge fan of his from Rainbow and even the Sabbath stuff.

01-Through The Shadows (I Rise) This song starts with a dramatic piano intro that is not reminiscence of the remainder of the song. With a ghostly voice in the background during the launch of the song to the pounding drums, this song delivers the tonal fluctuations that a true death metal lover would want. The grinding guitars spewing rhythmic vibrations along with the pounding the bass work synergistically with each other. The vocals are also a nice mix with the flow of the song and lyrics. 5 Stars

02-Manhunt Rhythmic guitar riffs with the perfect mix of keyboards makes this song a real winner. Its catchy changeups and charismatic vocals make this song stay in your head and keep replaying the clever riffs. The power of the drums can be heard throughout the song switchups which gives depth to the overall feel of the song. For those who like gut wrenching vocals, this song contains a small section to help satisfy the need. The presence of overtones and solos are also masterfully weaved within the song. Overall, the song is a great example of creativity and power. Text5 stars

03-Under A Bronze Sky Right of the bat power and aggression can be heard with the infusion of keyboards that make this song a winner. Anyone who is a true metal head will appreciate the guitar riffs and vocals spewing from the singer. The bass lines help give the song depth and balance the powerful drumming style. The vocals are pleasantly blended within the song that provides a delivery of clear lyrics. 5 Stars

04-Lifetrap The guitar harmonization is a perfect mix to kickoff a blistering progression of sound. This song definitely shows off the talent of its members. The careful sprinkling of keyboards gives this song something a little different from the rest of the bands. The unification of gut wrenching and charismatic vocals gives the song a definite appeal for the true gothic and metal lover alike. Finally, a song that masterfully places vocals that are expected in a metal band, but without over p0wering the song with continual growls. Overall, the synchronization of the solos with the heart pounding drums makes for a tune someone will continue to sing long after the song has ended. 5 Stars www.wingsinmotionband.com

JROCK: Don I've been really enjoying your new Comedy CD Live And Hilarious. First of all could you talk a little bit how you got your deal with Metal Blade Records. I mean is it safe to say that you're the only comedian signed to Metal Blade Records?

DJ: Why thank you! Basically I went out on the road with a Metal Blade band called "Charred Walls Of The Damned" opening the shows by doing stand-up. The shows went really well and Brian Slagel who owns the label saw me on a few of the dates and offered me a deal. Since then my "That Metal Show" co- host has also signed. That will probably be it though since comedians tend to be a handful!

JROCK: I know that the CD was recorded in New Jersey which is where you are originally from. When you were picking a place to record the new CD did you make a point of recording it in New Jersey rather than in some other state?

DJ: Yeah I figured I would have a rowdy, friendly crowd in NJ. It was a lot of fun telling masturbation jokes in front of my Mom & Dad!

JROCK: Looking at the album cover and the title of the CD I think it's pretty safe to bet that both were ifluenced by Thin Lizzy and that band's album. Could you please share with our readers the story of how you first became a Thin Lizzy fan and why their Live And Dangerous album had such a huge influence on you?

DJ: 'Live & Dangerous' was the first Lizzy album I'd ever heard and I was immediately blown away by Phil's voice and his bigger than life presence on the front cover. Now I just hope they don't sue me for "borrowing" their concept!

JROCK: Speaking of Thin Lizzy what do you think of the fact that has continued on with Thin Lizzy with new members such as of Def Leppard and that he's been talking about recording some new Thin Lizzy music which will be the band's first new music since died in 1986. Do you think the world wants a new Thin Lizzy record with anyone other than Phil Lynott as the band's frontman which of course something that just isn't possible.

DJ: As long as the musicians that come in and out of the band are doing it for the love of Thin Lizzy's music. Vivian is a psycho fan and he told me it was a great honor for him to play with Scott. As far as a new cd, I'm open-minded.

JROCK: Guns N Roses Guitarist: Bumblefoot appears on Live And Hilarious. First of all talk a little bit about how you got Bumblefoot to appear on the CD and if you were aware of Bumblefoot before he was in Guns N Roses?

DJ: Bumble used to call into 's radio show so that's how I got to know him. We've became good friends over the last few years and since he's a Brooklyn boy, I told him I'd buy him some good New York pizza if he played the intro on my cd and he did it!

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 34 DJ: Well it went to #9 on Billboard & #17 on the iTunes comedy charts so yeah, we're all stoked. Plus my parents return my calls now!

JROCK: As far as your deal with Metal Blade Records did they sign you just for one album or do they want you to do future releases for them?

DJ: We're gonna do a second one for sure. I already have the title, "Master Of Hilarity!“

JROCK: Don I must tell you that you, Jim Florentine, and Brian Posen are all comedians who are very much in the vein of the late/ great Sam Kinison in that you are all comedians who have been able to have a successfull comedy career by combining your love of both comedy and Metal. how big of an influence was Sam Kinison on you? JROCK: Have you heard Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy and what do you think DJ: It's funny because some of the great reviews of my cd of Bumblefoot's performance on that compared my style to what Sam did but to be honest, I was always album? more of an Andrew "Dice" Clay guy. But just to be in the same sentence as Sam is obviously an honor. DJ: I'm a huge fan of Bumblefoot's playing. He was at my apartment recently JROCK: In regards to Sam Kinison do you remember how you first jamming on my Les Paul and Jerry Gaskill learned of his death and what your initial thoughts were when you from Kings X stopped by unannounced. first heard of Sam's death? Bumble proceeded to play every song from the first 4 Kings X albums in order. He's DJ: His death was ironic considering he was the ultimate party like a human jukebox! animal and was sober when his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver. It was sad. He really did something that was completely original, JROCK: I know that you're quite busy with unapologetic and funny as hell. Rest in peace Sam. hosting THAT METAL SHOW these days but have you and Jim Florentine ever JROCK: In regards to question#11 when you perform live do you thought about doing a comedy tour believe there's a equal portion of people who are there in the crowd together? simply because they know you from THAT METAL SHOW and then

there's another portion of the audience who have never heard of DJ: We do lots of shows together THAT METAL SHOW and just know you because they've heard from throughout the year but maybe we should other people that you're a great stand up comedian? do something more formal like "The Comedians Of Metal" tour or "The DJ: I think it's a mix. I've definitely noticed more mullets at my Comedians Who Love To Fart" tour! shows! JROCK: As far as touring goes Don I was JROCK: . I know that for years you wrote jokes for other people on curious if you plan to do any touring MTV and other outlets that you wrote for. My question to you Don is yourself to promote the new CD? it harder for you as a Writer to write jokes for other people to tell or harder for you to write material for yourself? DJ: All my dates are at www.donjamieson.com DJ: It's easier to write for myself since my material is very personal to me and to what my point-of-view is on things but I love writing for JROCK: Are you and Metal Blade other people as well because it's a challenge and they usually pay in Records both happy with the response the cash! CD has gotten so far?

Copyright 2011. Chaotic Rifs Magazine September 2011 - Issue 19 35 JROCK: When you perform live do you ever lose your train of thought, forget what to say or mess up a joke? When that happens what do you do to keep the flow of the show going?

DJ: The minute I get on stage I loose my train of thought! I love the unexpected so when it happens I just go with it and have fun in the moment.

JROCK: In regards to THAT METAL SHOW do you know if VH1 plans to release each season of the show on DVD any day soon in the near future?

DJ: Our show is still shot in low-def so they'll probably release them on VHS.

JROCK: The new season of THAT METAL SHOW kicks DJ: I remember we hadn't filmed any shows in like 6 off with and now that means that you'll have months and this was the first one back. We were all had all the members of Heaven & Hell/Black Sabbath on rusty and just hoped that we did justice to his memory the show. What was it like meeting Tony Iommi and do which I think we did. I watched it on tv with Wendy Dio you plan on buying his book when it comes out this and and they both had tears in their eyes November? the entire show.

DJ: Tony is a great guy but has such a mystique about JROCK: Speaking of Ronnie james Dio what do you him. Maybe it's because he's the Godfather of metal, think of the Dio Deciples? maybe it's the fringe leather jacket. Whenever the book comes out I'll be the first one to bug Eddie Trunk to get DJ: Haven't seen them yet but just like with the Thin me a copy! Lizzy thing, as long as they're paying proper respect to the music it's all good with me. If there's anyone who JROCK: What did you think of Ronnie James Dio, can replicate Ronnie vocally it's Tim Ripper Owens. Geezer Buttler , Tony Iommi, and having to use the name Heaven And Hell instead of Black Sabbath? JROCK: Of course Don you know that Warrant's Former Lead Singer: Jani Lane recently passed away. DJ: I thought it was a cool move since it left the door I know Jani recently filmed an episode of THAT METAL open for Black Sabbath to reunite with Ozzy and not SHOW. Can you share with our readers what you confuse the fans. remember most about getting to meet Jani? Having met Jani yourself what was the thing that stood out JROCK: I really loved the great tribute show you guys most about him to you? How shocked were you when put on to remember Ronnie James Dio. What do you you learned on Jani's death? remember most from that show? DJ: I just found Jani to be a real nice, intelligent guy who was easy to root for considering his long-running issue with drugs and alcohol. I truly hoped he had turned the corner on his addictions but sadly they got the best of him. Glad he got to walk down memory lane with us one last time. Rest in peace rocker.

JROCK: Anything else that you'd like to say to all of your fans out there Don?

DJ: Thanks to great supporters like you Jason and our fans all over the world. It is truly an honor to represent the greatest music ever made!

Now can anyone imagine Lemmy Klimister in a Rockabilly band? Well if not get ready to because HEADCAT is an all star supergroup that features Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead on Bass/Lead Vocals, Stray Cats Drummer: Slim Jim Phanton and Guitarist Danny B Harvery. While I'm aware of who both Lemmy Kilmister and Slim Jim Phanton are until this CD I had never heard of Guitarist: Danny B Harvery but I'm told that he's just as well known among the Rockabilly crowd as his two bandmates are. I think if anything what HEADCAT accomplishes to do is introduce Hard Rock/metal fans to 50's Rockabilly music and introduce the Rock community to the talent that is Guitarist: Danny B Harvey. Again until this release I had never heard the name Danny B Harvery but I gurantee you that he's as good of a Guitar Player as , Doug Alrich or Warren Demartini. The thing that really showcases Harvey's talent as a Guitar Player is the fact that Head Cat is made up of just three members.\a great power TRIO!

Apparently the bulk of the album is made up of cover tunes and don't even ask me who originally did these tunes because truth be told I just don't know but I'll tell you what....After listening to this collection of tunes I plan to do some research and find out who originally wrote/performed these tunes because I'd like to hear the original versions and compare them to the HEADCAT versions. If nothing else that's one thing that HEADCAT has accomplished with this release! One listen to this CD and what you get is a great collection of tunes! Forget the Lemmy Kilmister, the legendary frontman from MOTORHEAD because what this CD does is shows you that Lemmy is more than a one trick poney, There's more to his talent than just singing "ACE OF SPADES" I should note that there are two original songs on here "AMERICAN BEAT" and "The Eagle Flies On Frieday"

The two original tracks are just as stron if not stronger than the other tunes on the CD and that's why I think the two original tracks show the real potential that lies in this band...On their next release I'd like to see the band do an all original effort because the potential is really there! Put this CD on and forget who the players are and what you get is a great sounding CD from a great jam band. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Also check out LEMMY THE MOVIE and you'll see the band in that film. Also check out Guitarist Danny B Harvey's Exclusive interview in this issue of Chaotic Riffs Magazine.
