Version 3.1: September 2018 (DRAFT) ii MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIONS DIRECTORY

PURPOSE Every day health providers (physicians, social workers, nurses, pharmacists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and others) meet with clients in their communities who live with mental and addictions problems with health concerns and they, based on their judgment and awareness of local and regional health services, supports, and information resources, suggest where that person can go to have their concerns addressed.

This tool was designed to aid pharmacists when helping people with mental health and addiction problems find needed mental health care, support, and related services and information.

Whatever the situation, whether it acute or long standing, use of this or other mental health navigational resources is an important step forward in supporting someone in our community’s journey toward recovery. A pharmacist can help the person take it.

HOW DO I USE THIS TOOL? Navigator 3.1 contains information about the many services, supports, and resources beneficial to people living with mental and addictions problems throughout the province of Nova Scotia.

The catalogued information is organized by provincial county. Adjacent counties that utilize many of the same services and resources, especially those mapped to the same zone of the provincial health authority, have been combined into common sections. A map of the health authority zones is provided on page 12.

Important province-wide resources are provided at the beginning of this directory. The most important province-wide services are repeated at the start of each section under the heading Principle Resources.

Each section includes an INDEX that lists categories of relevant, local health and related services provided by the Nova Scotia Health Authority and other government-funded organizations as well as not-for-profit services and supports. Services are listed alphabetically and numbered sequentially. If you are exploring resources, use the index for each county to help identify resources that meet your needs. If you know of a resource by name, look it up alphabetically within the county of interest.

NOVA SCOTIA 211 In 2013, Nova Scotia introduced telephone (211) and web-based service (http://ns.211.ca) that is organized to help people across the province find local community and social services. Many of the included services in the database directly help people with mental health and addictions problems. The site continues to be populated with services, programs, and groups and will be

Version 3.1: September 2018 (DRAFT) 1 MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTIONS DIRECTORY continually updated as new and changing information becomes available. We have included the following access information at the beginning of each section.
