We love to sail with the Cruising Group, with Heemskirk and the Poulters, She is a strong and sturdy ship which apparently never falters. Fred & Marie cruise on Genesis, sometimes with all sails furled, And Stylopora once upon a time cruised right around the world. We love to sail with the Cruising Group, with Pete & Bev on Tommie, She’s fitted with a lifting keel, to avoid sand bar reef and bommie. And the Dancer has those fancy sails which definitely help to lift her, She probably points much higher than the Blue Plains Drifter. We love cruising with the monos Lieta, Oasis and Celebration, With cats Talisker and Scarlett, who cruised around our nation. A diverse fleet of sailing boats called Aurora, Joule and Zest, It doesn’t matter how many hulls, as their owners will attest. We love to sail with the Cruising Group on trips along the coast, And the Sandy Straits is a special place which we enjoy the most. But Moreton Bay is the favoured place which many say is best, With several secure anchorages for a pleasant well-earned rest. We love to sail with the Cruising Group, for sundowners on a beach Are a wonderful way to end a day after a fast broad reach; And all we ask is a smooth sea with no strong wind warning, And a peaceful quiet anchorage with a clear calm morning. We love to sail with the Cruising Group, for the sprit of adventure Calls us to sail whilst we still can, before we suffer from dementia. (Editor’s note: Inspired by John Masefield’s poem “Sea Fever”) Sea Fever by John Masefield I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by, And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking, And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking. I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied; And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying. I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life, To the gull’s way and the whale’s way, where the wind’s like a whetted knife; And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover, And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over. 28 mainsheet Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Summer Your Gift will make a difference If the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron has been an important part of your life, including the Squadron in your long term financial plans by making a bequest ensures you can be part of the Squadron’s success in the decades ahead.
