Babası ve annesi Osmanlı Devleti‟nin üst rütbelerinde görev yapmıĢ seçkin ailelere dayanmaktadır. Çocukluk ve gençlik yılları babasının görevi nedeniyle Manastır, ġam, Beyrut ve Selanik‟te geçmiĢtir. Ġlk tahsilini ġam‟da, orta tahsilini Selanik, Beyrut ve Ġstanbul‟da tamamlamıĢtır. Babası Eczacı Miralay Ahmet Bey‟in kültürlü ve ileri görüĢlü olması, eğitim ve sanatla ilgileniyor olması onun için büyük bir Ģanstır. (ÇalıĢkan& Özey, 2016: 629) Orta tahsilini Ġstanbul‟da yaptıktan sonra 1912 yılında 16 yaĢındayken babasının hatırı için Mithat Sadullah (Sander) ile evlenmiĢtir. Okumak arzusunda olan ġûkufe Nihal, Darülfünun kızlar kısmına kaydolmak istemiĢse de evliliğinin, devamına engel teĢkil ettiği ileri sürülerek kaydı yapılmamıĢtır. 1916 yılında Ġnas Darülfünununa giren ġûkufe Nihal, bu sırada ilk eĢinden boĢanmıĢtır. Evliliğini bitirmesi, kadınlara boĢanma hakkının yeni verildiği ve kadının sosyal hayattaki konumu üzerine birçok tartıĢmanın devam ettiği bir döneme denk gelmiĢtir. ġûkufe Nihal, kendisi gibi Ġstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Coğrafya bölümünden mezun olan, siyasetçi, iktisatçı ve devlet adamı olan, 1930larda Atatürk‟ün iktisadi danıĢmanlığını yapan Ahmet Hamdi BaĢar ile ikinci evliliğini yapmıĢtır. Uzun bir evlilikten sonra Ahmet Hamdi Beyden de ayrılacak olan ġûkufe Nihal, (ArgunĢah, 2011: 40- 44)1919‟da Edebiyat Fakültesinde Coğrafya bölümünden mezun olduktan sonra coğrafya ve edebiyat hocalığı yapmıĢtır. (Banarlı, 1971: 1223) ġûkufe Nihal, vatan ve millet sorunlarına duyarlı biri olmakla birlikte halkın aydınlanması noktasında sosyal faaliyetlerde de yer alan bir münevverdir. Türk Ocağı gibi cemiyetlerde aydınların düzenlediği birçok toplantılara katılan ġûkufe Nihal‟i aynı zamanda kadın hareketleri içinde de görmekteyiz. Mütareke yıllarında Müdafaa-i Hukuk-u Nisvan Cemiyeti‟nde ve Ahali Ġktisat Fırkasında çalıĢmıĢtır. Asri Kadınlar Cemiyeti, ordunun giyecek temini ile sağlık iĢlerinde faaliyet gösterdiği gibi Ġstanbul‟da iĢgale yönelik protesto mitingini de ilk olarak düzenlemesiyle öne çıkmıĢtır. ġûkufe Nihal, bundan sonraki çalıĢmalarında siyasi bir amaca da yönelmiĢtir. 1923‟te Nezihe Muhittin‟in baĢkanlığında kurulan Kadınlar Halk Fırkasının genel sekreterliğini yapmıĢtır. Fakat genç Türkiye Cumhuriyeti‟nde partileĢme Meral KUZGUN • 11 eğilimi henüz baĢlamadığı için hükümet tarafından onaylanmayacaktır (ArgunĢah, 2011: 66-73). 1962 yılında geçirdiği trafik kazası sonrasında bir dizi ameliyat geçiren ve yatağa mahkûm kalan ġûkufe Nihal, Bakırköy‟de bir huzurevine (Milliyet, 1965) taĢınmak durumunda kalmıĢtır. 24 Eylül 1973 tarihinde hayata vedan eden ġûkufe Nihal, AĢiyan mezarlığına gömülmüĢtür. (ÇalıĢkan & Özey, 2016: 62) ġûkufe Nihal’in Evlilik Ve Türk Kadını Ġle Ġlgili Tespitleri Yerel basınında Türk ve Batılı kadınların karĢılaĢtırılmasının rahatsızlık duyan ġûkufe Nihal, bunun Türk kadınına yapılan bir haksızlık olduğunu düĢünmüĢtür. Kıyaslamanın özellikle Türk-Alman kadınları üzerinden yapılmasına da ayrıca kızmıĢtır. Alman kadınlarının ev ve sosyal hayatlarında yaĢamlarını devam ettirirken; Ģehirli kalburüstü Türk kadınlarının yalnızca vakitlerini sinema, terzi ya da ziyaret gibi faaliyetlerle meĢgulmüĢ gibi gösterilip, evlerini ve çocuklarını ihmal ettikleri noktasındaki tenkitlere de katılmamıĢtır. Bu kapsamda Türk Kadını dergisinde Ethem Nejad Beyin kaleme aldığı ve Türk ile Alman kadınları arasındaki mukayesenin yapıldığı “ Evsiz Barksız
