  • Computer Software
E-Content B.Ed ll Sem Paper Name: Computer Education Paper code : BED 308(B) Unit : ll COMPUTER SOFTWARE MEANING:- Computer software, also called software, is a set of instructions and its documentations that tells a computer what to do or how to perform a task. Software includes all different software programs on a computer, such as applications and the operating system. This includes application software such as a word processor, which enables a user to perform a task, and system software such as an operating system, which enables other software to run properly, by interfacing with hardware and with other software. Practical computer systems divide software into three major classes: system software, programming software and application software, although the distinction is arbitrary, and often blurred. Computer software has to be "loaded" into the computer's storage (such as a hard drive, memory, or RAM). Once the software is loaded, the computer is able to execute the software. Computers operate by executing the computer program. This involves passing instructions from the application software, through the system software, to the hardware which ultimately receives the instruction as machine code. Each instruction causes the computer to carry out an operation -- moving data, carrying out a computation, or altering the control flow of instructions. CHARACTERISTICS:- Software characteristics are classified into 6 major components: Functionality: It refers to the degree of performance of the software against its intended purpose. It basically means are the required functions. Reliability:A set of attribute that Bear on the capability of software to maintain its level of performances understated conditions for a stated period of time.

Weblint: Just Another Perl Hack Neil Bowers1 Canon Research Centre Europe Abstract Weblint is a utility for checking the syntax and style of HTML pages. It was inspired by lint [15], which performs a similar function for C and C++ programmers. Weblint does not aspire to be a strict SGML validator, but to provide helpful comments for humans. The importance of quality assurance for web sites is introduced, and one particular area, validation of HTML, is described in more detail. The bulk of the paper is devoted to weblint: what it is, how it is used, and the design and implementation of the current development version. 1. Introduction The conclusion opens with a summary of the information and opinions given in this paper. A Web sites are becoming an increasingly critical part of selection of the lessons learned over the last four years how many companies do business. • Resurrect Your Old PC
Resurrect your old PCs Resurrect your old PC Nostalgic for your old beige boxes? Don’t let them gather dust! Proprietary OSes force users to upgrade hardware much sooner than necessary: Neil Bothwick highlights some great ways to make your pensioned-off PCs earn their keep. ardware performance is constantly improving, and it is only natural to want the best, so we upgrade our H system from time to time and leave the old ones behind, considering them obsolete. But you don’t usually need the latest and greatest, it was only a few years ago that people were running perfectly usable systems on 500MHz CPUs and drooling over the prospect that a 1GHz CPU might actually be available quite soon. I can imagine someone writing a similar article, ten years from now, about what to do with that slow, old 4GHz eight-core system that is now gathering dust. That’s what we aim to do here, show you how you can put that old hardware to good use instead of consigning it to the scrapheap. So what are we talking about when we say older computers? The sort of spec that was popular around the turn of the century. OK, while that may be true, it does make it seem like we are talking about really old hardware. A typical entry-level machine from six or seven years ago would have had something like an 800MHz processor, Pentium 3 or similar, 128MB of RAM and a 20- 30GB hard disk. The test rig used for testing most of the software we will discuss is actually slightly lower spec, it has a 700MHz Celeron processor, because that’s what I found in the pile of computer gear I never throw away in my loft, right next to my faithful old – but non-functioning – Amiga 4000.

The Pennsylvania State University The Graduate School College of Communications EVALUATIO OF FOSS VIDEO GAMES I COMPARISO TO THEIR COMMERCIAL COUTERPARTS A Thesis in Media Studies By Jesse A. Clark © 2008 Jesse A. Clark Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts August 2008 ii The thesis of Jesse A. Clark was reviewed and approved* by the following:: John Nichols Professor of Communications Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Matt Jackson Associate Professor of Communications Head of Department of Telecommunications Thesis Advisor Robert Frieden Professor; Pioneers Chair in Telecommunications Ronald Bettig Associate Professor of Communications *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School. iii Abstract The topic of copyrights and copyright law is a crucial component in understanding today's media landscape. The purpose for having a copyright system as outlined in the U.S. Constitution is to provide content creators with an incentive to create. The copyright system allows revenue to be generated through sales of copies of works; thus allowing for works to be created which otherwise would not be created. Yet it is entirely possible that not all large creative projects require the same legal framework as an incentive. The so called “copyleft” movement (which will be defined and explained in depth later) offers an alternative to the industrial mode of cultural production. Superficially, “copylefted” works can be divided into two broad categories: artistic/creative works (which are often protected by “Creative Commons” licenses), and Free/Open Source Software. This thesis evaluates how open source video games compare to their commercial counterparts and discusses the reasons for any difference in overall quality.

ROVANIEMI UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY Degree Programme in Information Technology Thesis HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR PANORAMIC PHOTOGRAPHY Julia Benzar 2012 Supervisor: Veikko Keränen Approved _______2012__________ The thesis can be borrowed. School of Technology Abstract of Thesis Degree Programme in Information Technology _____________________________________________________________ Author Julia Benzar Year 2012 Subject of thesis Hardware and Software for Panoramic Photography Number of pages 48 In this thesis, panoramic photography was chosen as the topic of study. The primary goal of the investigation was to understand the phenomenon of pa- noramic photography and the secondary goal was to establish guidelines for its workflow. The aim was to reveal what hardware and what software is re- quired for panoramic photographs. The methodology was to explore the existing material on the topics of hard- ware and software that is implemented for producing panoramic images. La- ter, the best available hardware and different software was chosen to take the images and to test the process of stitching the images together. The ex- periment material was the result of the practical work, such the overall pro- cess and experience, gained from the process, the practical usage of hard- ware and software, as well as the images taken for stitching panorama. The main research material was the final result of stitching panoramas. The main results of the practical project work were conclusion statements of what is the best hardware and software among the options tested. The re- sults of the work can also suggest a workflow for creating panoramic images using the described hardware and software. The choice of hardware and software was limited, so there is place for further experiments.

Palavras-Chave: educação de infância, educação artística, TIC na educação, software livre, uso do computador Página 1 de 16 Abstract: In a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, a challenge about using Free Software applications with children in educational contexts was proposed to the students.
