Being a “Teenage Mother” in Australia

I know an Australian girl who is a 19 year old single mother she has a 3 year old son and she is pregnant again.

At first I thought she was too young to be a mother because she was only 16 years old and she had to quit high school so her life had to change a lot. However, she has chosen that way of life and has been trying to be a good mother and I ap- preciate that. Now I'm wondering about a few things. Firstly, is it becoming common in Australia or worldwide that teenagers are having babies? Second, is it possible to go back to school if they want? Third, what will happen to their children in the future with different fathers?

According to my research on the internet site “Teenage Pregnancy in Australia”, they have data that tells us that around 12,000 young women below the age of 19 give birth each year. At schools at present a young women has the chance of completing secondary school once she becomes pregnant and makes the decision to continue the pregnancy. There are still state education systems in Australia that have NOT made a policy commitment to the retention of pregnant and young parent in education. It would seem only women have the problems and lots of men don't care about their girl- friends’ mental and physical problems.

What do you think about the challenges facing women in this difficult situation? Hatsuko

Perth Nightlife Going out in Perth can be very exciting for foreign students. There are a lot of clubs, pubs and bars in Perth for example: The Deen, Mustang Brass Monkey, Irish bars and so on...

Each place has different music. You can choose one and enjoy, drinking, dancing and meeting new people and making friends! It's not easy to meet local people for foreign students, but if you go out, you will meet them and have more possibilities to practice English and your Aussie accent as well!

Some places charge for entry, it costs between AUS$10 and AUS$25 but students don't have enough money so most of them usually go out early during the week with their friends because if you go to the Mustang from 6pm to 9 pm, you can get one glass of beer with food for only AUS$5!!. That's why many students go there every Wednesday. Also, if you go to The Deen you don't have to pay for entry and you can listen to many different types of music in the same place. We promise you won't get bored.

If you are interested just go there and enjoy! Diana and Yuko

Brazilian Food and Service Customs

Have you ever heard about Brazilian food and service customs? How about a great Brazilian restaurant? You don't need to go so far to understand a little bit about it. When you invite your friends to your house to drink and eat something with or without any spe- cial reason and everybody feels comfortable there, that is the Brazilian style. When you go to a restaurant in Brazil, the waiter should be welcoming to you. It is really common to go to a type of restaurant called “Rodizio”, where you pay a fixed amount and you can eat all you want. You'll find a buffet in the middle of the restaurant with some salad, pasta, risotto, etc. In general, a specific waiter will pass by your table from time to time showing some kinds of meat (beef, rib, chicken and sometimes fish) offering a piece of it to you. Because of this, the waiter/waitress must be friendly. The food, like in any other restaurant should be fresh. In this case it is the same, especially the meat. If it’s not fresh, the food will be dry and tasteless. It's not because the chef doesn't know how to prepare it, but sometimes he doesn't know how to organise the kitchen and its team. If it is possible for you to visit a Brazilian restaurant, you should! Even though, remember that this place must be like the ex- planation above. If it's not like this, you may have a good time, but you definitely won't enjoy your meal. In every country that you visit, if you find this type of restaurant, the standard must be the same. By Andre
