Food trucks are mobile vendors. Classifying food trucks as stationary vendors is a blatant and obvious ploy to restrict the freedom of these entrepreneurs. I do not support these. I don’t think any of the changes will improve the food truck industry or safety of citizens at all. The food vendors here have provided affordable, nutritious selections for the university and hospital employees, and while I'm sure the hospital cafeteria vendors are unhappy about it, they should not address the competition by manipulating Metro policy in their favor. The food trucks offer a varied diet to the multitude of international communities represented in this demographic, as well as provide a source of commerce and income for our immigrant communities. Please reconsider how this will affect their business. I cannot understand the reason behind this proposed ordinance. I work on Main Street and therefore can appreciate the difficulties in regulating the vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area. However, I do not see why it matters if a metered parking spot is occupied by a vendor or a personal vehicle. There is no greater impact on traffic caused by a vendor vehicle and while there may be a congregation of foot traffic on the sidewalk, most people have the common courtesy to stand out of the way of pedestrian traffic. Not to mention I have met some wonderful people while waiting both local and visitors improving my sense of community. I have not ever experienced a shortage of parking downtown even with big events at the Yum! Center. While we have many wonderful brick and mortar restaurants downtown that I frequent often, I like the opportunity to grab a quick lunch from a vendor when I don't have the time to commit to a sit-down lunch. If the city is willing to license these vendors, please do not place unreasonable restrictions which do nothing but lead to failure of such businesses. They are important members of this community whom I support whole-heartedly. And this ordnance would make it virtually impossible to operate in the city. Which would be a shame. Food trucks are a great part of our local culture, "keeping Louisville weird", enhancing the experience of locals and visitors, and making high-quality, diverse food experiences possible. Please vote no on these changes. I am finding it difficult to see how mobile vendors will be able to remain competitive, let alone even stay in business if these proposed changes are allowed to go into effect. The changes seem aimed specifically at preventing them from being able to conduct business at all, at least in any profitable or safe manner. Most mobile vendors I see are very considerate and conscious of the impact they have on the areas they set up in. I can't imagine any issues arising where these proposed changes would be needed or desired. What incident(s) sparked the need for proposing changes? If no specific incidents exist, why change the rules in a way that is going to be crippling to an entire cottage industry? If incidents do exist, why were they not addressed with the individuals involved, why punish everyone for the bad actions of a few? I for one will miss the added variety and choices of food available if these changes are allowed to pass. I also regret that the Louisville Metro Council would even consider proposing arbitrary changes apparently designed to force honest hard-working Americans into unemployment. This will negatively effect our economy by putting food truck owners out of business, thereby removing their revenue from our economy. Not to mention the fact that downtown employees frequently do not have the time or means to go to a brick and mortar restaurant but can afford food trucks. This ordinance is heavily biased and attempts to solve a problem that we don't have. Allow businesses to flourish. Allow Louisville to grow and develop. I am against the changes to current food truck rules. This is unfair to business of this sort, we demand the same treatment as any other restaurant or business! These council people need to focus on real problems like out city's drug problem. I should be free to operate my business without constant fear of what the city will try to do next to deter me from operating. The restaurans poking at Barbara Sexton to do something about food trucks need to find another way to increase thier business bottom line without attacking other businesses! This is like telling a reporter that they can only report news at certain locations. Freedom to operate!!! It makes no sense with unemployment rates what they are to continually beat on small businesses From: Wufoo To: MetroCouncilClerk Subject: Itinerant Vendors, Peddlers & Solicitors Ordinance [#14] Date: 10/15/2018 5:39:48 PM Name * Jeff Sell Zip code * 40014 Email * Phone Number Please use the space below to provide feedback on the proposed changes. * The proposed changes will create a backlash among the citizens who frequent food trucks. Some have very limited time, 30 minutes, for their lunch breaks. They will not be able to have options for their lunch choices if food trucks are not allowed to operate as they are allowed to now.
