For Linda, Evie, Mollie and Michael – always. Author’s Note While I have been fortunate over the years to have enjoyed the company of various ex-members and/or former employees of Led Zeppelin, it should be born in mind at all times that this is an unauthorised biography, written objectively and with no undue pressure from any outside influence to do anything other than tell the story as I honestly see it. It should also be clearly understood that the italicised ‘flashback’ passages of the text are not the actual words of Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, John Paul Jones and Peter Grant, nor are they actual quotes. Whilst they are all based on thorough biographical research, the facts of which can be found in the Notes & Sources section at the end of this book, the words themselves are the product of my imagination. • Stan Webb's Chicken Shack: I'd Rather Go Live Dvd (Angel Air Waves/Music Video Distributors)
STAN WEBB'S CHICKEN SHACK: I'D RATHER GO LIVE DVD (ANGEL AIR WAVES/MUSIC VIDEO DISTRIBUTORS) It's an unfortunate fact that, for most people who lived through the British Blues Boom of the late '60's, when the name "Chicken Shack" is mentioned, most folks think only of Christine Perfect's (keyboardist for them) marriage to John McVie and her consequent joining of the "modern" Fleetwood Mac...i.e. post-Peter Green. Few people realize that Chicken Shack's founder and guitarist, Stan Webb, has been playing marvellous Blues all these years (39 of them, actually) and, although Christine McVie did sing the vocals on Chicken Shack's biggest single (1969), an Etta James classic by the name of "I'd Rather Go Blind" she really has very little to do with the history of this notable band. Notice the play on words in the title of this DVD. With the exception of one ill-conceived album and American tour Stan did with the Savoy Brown Boogie Bros., he has carried on with several versions of Chicken Shack right up to this DVD. There are those critics who consider Chicken Shack one of the more "pedestrian" bands to come out at the time, unlike "legitimate" artists such as Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall. It is ironic, that after all these years, Stan's band has become a similar testing ground not unlike Mayall's, and, though I am a fan of the most recent Fleetwood Mac, they are not a Blues band as was the 60's and early 70's version.

  • Siamo Giunti Alla 3A E 4° Rassegna.

Sea of Tranquility - Chicken Shack: I'd Rather Go Live (DVD) http://www.seaoftranquility.org/print.php?sid=3115&content=review Chicken Shack: I'd Rather Go Live (DVD) Fans of British blues-rock should enjoy this live DVD recorded in 2004 of long-time act Chicken Shack. Since the early 70's, guitarist Stan Webb has led Chicken Shack, and although the band never reached popular status that bands like Fleetwood Mac, Savoy Brown, or Ten Years After achieved, they have always had a strong cult following, and even helped launch the careers of Christine Perfect (later to be McVie of Fleetwood Mac fame) and Paul Raymond, who went on to join Savoy Brown, UFO, and MSG. This set here, recorded in Lyme Regis, Southern England, is full of no frills, blues soaked riffs and solos, with Webb's fiery licks and scratchy vocals leading the way. The guy can still certainly tear it up on his Gibson Les Paul, as shown on such standout songs like "The Thrill Has Gone", "Spoonful", and the scorching originals "Stan Webb's Chicken Shack Opera" and "I Know You Know Me". The rest of the band is tight yet laid back, letting Webb have most of the spotlight. While Stan's guitar playing is certainly as good as ever, his vocals have not held up too well. During many instances in this show he really strains to get high notes, and is off key quite a bit. But who ever said blues singers had to be perfect, right? Anyway, check this one out for the hot blues and rock guitar firepower, and witness a talented player who never really got his due.
