According to CBS News decision team analysts, 76 races are in play at this point or could be: 48 are deemed competitive, and another 28 are potentially competitive. Sekula- Gibbs will be a write-in candidate in the general election. She is also a candidate in a special election being held on the same day to fill the remaining months in DeLay’s term. (*) This seat is being vacated by Bernie Sanders, an Independent, who caucuses with the Democrats. (±) Mark Foley resigned on 9/29/06. Foley’s name will remain on the ballot but votes cast for him will be allocated to Joe Negron.
