Superintendent's Highlights Washoe County School District (WCSD) Graduation Rate The District again had the strongest performance ever on the graduation rate. The WCSD has eclipsed the 85% graduation rate marks. This includes a significant narrowing of the achievement gap among all student populations. WCSD Eliminates its General Fund Budget Deficit and Passes a Balanced Budget The board adopted a goal to eliminate the District’s structural deficit within three years. In June, the board accomplished this one full year early when it passed a balanced budget for the General Fund for Fiscal Year 2019-20. This was the district's first balanced budget in 16 years and reflects WCSD's efforts to reduce General Fund costs by over $60 million over the last three years. Welcome to the 116th Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association . This meeting, first held in 1906 with 19 participants at the University of Illinois, has been held continuously since then . Our Annual Meeting has spanned two world wars, the Great Depression, and most recently the pandemic of the last two years . It is a tribute to our mem- bers, past and present, that we have been able to sustain this effort over the last 116 years to grow ADSA into the world's leading dairy science society . In the face of continuing uncertainty due to the pandemic, this year’s meeting is being held virtually, although we wanted to be with you in person . The development of the program for this year's meet- ing began last August and involved countless hours of volunteer efforts by our members, the overall program committee, and FASS staff . Kudos to our members and participants for their desire to share their scien- tific contributions, without which we would not be having this meeting .

    An Oral History of Les Ede 4th Street | Prater Way History Project Interviewed: September 16, 2013 Published: 2014 Interviewer: Alicia Barber, Ph.D. Les Ede’s great-great-grandfather moved to Nevada in 1872. Born in 1942, Les grew up on Sullivan Lane, near what was then the western edge of Sparks, and shares memories of his childhood neighborhood near Prater Way. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Sparks High School, and then became a firefighter in Sparks, retiring in 1994. The 4th Street | Prater Way History Project is a collaborative community history project launched by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County in 2011. The project’s website, with full transcripts, photographs, and other historical material about the 4th Street | Prater Way corridor through Reno and Sparks, Nevada, may be found at http://4thprater.onlinenevada.org/.
