Superintendent's Highlights Washoe County School District (WCSD) Graduation Rate The District again had the strongest performance ever on the graduation rate. The WCSD has eclipsed the 85% graduation rate marks. This includes a significant narrowing of the achievement gap among all student populations. WCSD Eliminates its General Fund Budget Deficit and Passes a Balanced Budget The board adopted a goal to eliminate the District’s structural deficit within three years. In June, the board accomplished this one full year early when it passed a balanced budget for the General Fund for Fiscal Year 2019-20. This was the district's first balanced budget in 16 years and reflects WCSD's efforts to reduce General Fund costs by over $60 million over the last three years. WCSD is the first school district in the United States to implement priority based budgeting, a national best practice for government budgeting. WCSD Earns National Recognition for Financial Excellence For the 18th consecutive year, the WCSD has been recognized for responsible fiscal practices by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

Born in 1942, Les grew up on Sullivan Lane, near what was then the western edge of Sparks, and shares memories of his childhood neighborhood near Prater Way. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Sparks High School, and then became a firefighter in Sparks, retiring in 1994. The 4th Street | Prater Way History Project is a collaborative community history project launched by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County in 2011. Opening Items 1.01 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order at 2:00 p.m. at the Washoe County School District’s Central Administration Building, 425 East Ninth Street, Reno, Nevada. 1.02 ROLL CALL Vice President David Aiazzi and Board Members John Mayer, Barbara McLaury, Howard Rosenberg, and Lisa Ruggerio were present. President Barbara Clark and Trustee Estella Gutierrez were delayed and not present at roll call. Superintendent Pedro Martinez, Deputy Superintendent Traci Davis and staff were also present. 1.03 PLEDGEOF ALLEGIANCE Superintendent Pedro Martinez led the meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. 1.04 PUBLIC COMMENT There was no response to the call for public comment. 1.05 ACTION TO ADOPT THE AGENDA It was moved by Trustee McLaury and seconded by Trustee Rosenberg that the Board of Trustees approves the agenda as presented. The result of the vote was Unanimous: Pass (Yea: David Aiazzi, John Mayer, Barbara McLaury, Howard Rosenberg and Lisa Ruggerio.) Final Resolution: Motion Carries 2.
