With over 3,000 property owners, some in their fourth generation, and many of who have owned multiple chalets, condos, lots and homes, have given us a big vote of confidence. Innsbrook is still fun for me … and watching it evolve and improve is exciting! Enjoy the season! Ed Boyce “Pretty in Pink” by Cynthia Bowers 3 A NOTE FROM CHARLIE Greetings from Innsbrook and welcome to our 44th season! Well it must finally be spring. Or at least it appears so by my weather rock: hot (once), cold (some days), wet (a lot), covered in hail (yep, it’s spring!!). And as spring is often the season most filled with anticipation and excitement, so is the tenor of our community and the spirit in which we publish our newsletter Innsight. I’m honored to open the season with this letter to our community and it is a treat to share an overview of all the great events and happenings in store for us this year. As is tradition, we’ll be formally kicking off the season with our Memorial Day Celebrations and Anniversary party. These events are perfect for rekindling and reconnecting with the families and “Granddad and Grandson Fishing” by Anne Willis friends that many of you haven’t seen since before the winter months. Personally, I love to see the mix of our newest members of Innsbrook alongside the multi-generational IBK’ers. Although, I must admit, that now I’m the guy saying “Your son/daughter is how old now? I remember when you first bought your cabin back in 19xx and the kids were in diapers. My how the time flies!” Ugh. But as such, this is one of the many strengths of our community. Traditions are infused with the younger and newer generations and together we are making Innsbrook more vibrant and relevant to our lives now more than ever. Between the infusions (and a few transfusions) our popular hangouts will be better than ever in ’15. The Clubhouse Bar & Grille was stripped down to the bones and rebuilt to better serve our customers in an atmosphere of fun and comfort that will meet the needs of all the IBK generations from the tiny tikes to the young at heart. Along with the great additions to the bar, dining areas, kids’ area and staff—and quite importantly—we’ve completely re-equipped the kitchen and doubled its size in the process. The 2015 concert season will be our finest yet. From classical to classic “Log Cabin Duo” by Mike Gualdoni rock, from Beethoven to Bono and Zac Brown to Funky Butt, you will be entertained by some of the finest musicians and bands around. We are thrilled to share the news that marquee musicians from around the globe will be returning to IBK for our Institute’s Summer Music Festival and Academy. Our Artistic Director and St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, David Halen, has brought back our good friends Wendy Chen, Chee-Yun, Grace Park and more for what will certainly be a series you will not want to miss. One of the finest traditions and events we have is our annual Independence Day Celebration. The day will be most memorable in the history of America … It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade … bonfires and illuminations [fireworks] from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore. — John Adams, July 3, 1776 “All Decked Out” by Kelly Ford Thank you President Adams, I couldn’t agree more! 4 EVERYBODY needs beauty as well as bread, places to PLAY IN and PRAY IN, where nature may heal and give strength TO BODY AND SOUL. — JOHN MUIR “Honor Our Freedom” by Ken Allman Fireworks celebrate a special moment in time. The tradition marks time for generations. They strengthen community as friends, family and neighbors gather for a shared experience. And they’re fun! This show would not be possible without the generous support of our community, and I thank each of you that contribute for your valued generosity. From Memorial Day to Labor Day our community will enjoy a lineup of events, celebrations, activities, camps, concerts, workshops, races, regattas, tournaments, shows and parties that any major city would be thrilled to have in their portfolio. This would not be possible if not for the countless hours of dedicated IBK volunteers. We are all indebted to these acts of community service; please join me in thanking them when you see them. The French author Jules Renard once commented, “On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it.” I believe we all share a piece of heaven with the natural beauty that envelops us at Innsbrook, and I also believe that this is the fundamental common denominator that we share. Be it primal, tribal, karma or kismet, a few moments spent “Tri at Innsbrook” by Cynthia Bowers travelling our trails or back roads can be magical. May you take the time this season to enjoy the unique Innsbrook experience. Have fun. Be a good neighbor. As always, we welcome any opportunity to hear from you; your comments, questions and constructive criticism have helped to shape the Innsbrook community. Sincerely, Charlie Boyce, President & CEO “Heading Home Tyrolean Trail Crossing” by Gary Barton 5 dancing the niGht AWAY No matter what type of music you personally enjoy, our Summer Breeze concerts are a popular community event, where neighbors gather and catch up over a picnic, kids play Frisbee and make up their own creative games, and everyone enjoys an evening under the stars. From pop and dance to rock and country and spanning the decades, each concert is a great way to unwind and cap off a fun and fulfilling summer day at Innsbrook. There’s a concert nearly every weekend of the summer, we hope you’ll make it out to the Farmhouse Field for each and every one! All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.* For more information call ext. 180. Dirty Muggs May 24 Kicking off the 2015 season of Summer Breeze is the high-energy, can’t stop dancing sounds and moves of the Dirty Muggs. This band can play it all with covers from Prince, Journey, Al Green, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and more. Dirty Muggs’ choreography, musical prowess, and cast of entertainers are sure to capture the hearts of Innsbrook fans. The Dirty Muggs will have you on your feet and showing off your moves before the sun goes down on Memorial Day weekend! Well Hungarians May 30 Also back this year by popular demand are the Well Hungarians, whose musical repertoire covers a wide spectrum of songs from the ‘70s to current hits. The band’s performances include original music as well as country, rock and classic cover songs ranging from the Zac Brown Band to Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Well Hungarians have extensive long- term professional recording and live playing experience. Let’s welcome them back to Innsbrook! Resurrection June 20 Don’t stop believin’—because the concert schedule continues to rock on June 20. Coming to us all the way from Nashville is Journey tribute band Resurrection. The band says that, “Whether you’re a hard-core Journey fan, a newly converted one, or just want to relive a special part of your life through a shared musical adventure, you will be captured by the moment listening to ‘Resurrection—A Journey Tribute’ and soaring from the experience long after the party’s over!” Funky Butt Brass Band June 27 The Funky Butt Brass Band returns to Innsbrook this year, taking classic New Orleans brass tunes and giving them a twist. According to the uniquely-titled band, “The term ‘funky butt’ has a storied place in New Orleans history. It was the title of a dance, a Buddy Bolden trumpet tune and, in the early part of the 20th century when jazz was new, the Union Sons of Honor Hall in the backatown district of New Orleans became the Funky Butt Dance Hall at night.” *Cancellation policy for outdoor concerts: In the case of inclement weather we will NOT move the event indoors to the riding arena. If the weather is deemed to be too wet or severe to hold the event, the event will be canceled. You can check Facebook, the Aspen Center Front Desk, and 6 the security gates for updates on cancellations. The decision to cancel an event will not be made until 5 p.m.

  • “The Greatest Gift Is the Realization That Life Does Not Consist Either In
“The greatest gift is the realization that life does not consist either in wallowing in the past or peering anxiously into the future; and it is appalling to contemplate the great number of often painful steps by which ones arrives at a truth so old, so obvious, and so frequently expressed. It is good for one to appreciate that life is now. Whatever it offers, little or much, life is now –this day-this hour.” Charles Macomb Flandrau Ernest Hemingway drank here. Cuban revolutionaries Fidel Castro and Che Guevera drank here. A longhaired young hippie musician named Jimmy Buffett drank and performed here, too. From the 1930’s through today this rustic dive bar has seen more than its share of the famous and the infamous. It’s a little joint called Capt. Tony’s in Key West, Florida. Eighty-seven-year-old Anthony ‘Capt. Tony’ Tarracino has been the owner and proprietor of this boozy establishment since 1959. It seems Tony, as a young mobster, got himself into some serious trouble with ‘the family’ back in New Jersey and needed to lay low for a while. In those days, the mosquito invested ‘keys’ (or islands) on the southernmost end of Florida’s coastline was a fine place for wise guys on the lam to hide out. And this was well before the tee-shirt shops, restaurants, bars, art galleries, charming B&B’s and quaint hotels turned Key West into a serious year-round tourist destination. Sure, there were some ‘artsy’ types like Hemingway and Tennessee Williams living in Key West during the late 50’s when Tony bought the bar, but it was a seaside shanty town where muscular hard-working men in shrimp boats and cutters fished all day for a living.
