BELEDO Guitarist | Pianist | Composer | Recording Artist | Producer Guitarist | Pianist | Composer | Arranger | Recording Artist | Producer “Beledo is the epitome of excellent musical individuality and a profound example of the universality of jazz’s presence and influence in every corner of our planet. His new recording, MONTEVIDEO JAZZ DREAMS, exemplifies this and more.” Stix Hooper “Beledo is considered a real myth among Uruguayan music connoisseurs.” El Pais, Montevideo, Uruguay “Beledo plays mostly jazz-influenced rock; he has enough talent to provide for both musical forms. When he comes to manifest his own coined style, preferably leaning towards jazz (of course) he will be a monster like his mentors." Michael Fagien, JAZZIZ “Very few have been able to build a bridge between straight- ahead and the more melodic renderings of what we call contemporary and/or smooth jazz. Beledo is one of those few… I recognized that MONTEVIDEO JAZZ DREAMS was different from my usual jazz fare… I liked what I heard and stayed. When Beledo writes and plays, he remembers the listener; he remembers that others will hear his music. He didn't forget that he was playing for me!” Abyss Jazz Magazine New York guitarist, pianist, and composer, Beledo was born in Montevideo Uruguay. He began formal music and piano study at age six. As the British Invasion began to take hold of airwaves around the world, influenced by the Beatles and other emerging pop rock bands, he gravitated towards and discovered a natural proficiency for guitar. Beledo gained guitar-hero status in his teens, playing every theatre in his hometown of Montevideo, and captivating audiences in Uruguay and Argentina. After a brief tenure with Uruguayan rock and blues super-group, Dias de Blues, Beledo pioneered the jazz-rock band, Maytreya, and later on, the mythical Siddhartha, inspired by the burgeoning jazz- fusion movement (Chick Corea, Weather Report, Soft Machine & etc.). His fusion efforts of the early 80’s in South America, during which he appeared at top venues and recorded with Pedro Aznar (formerly with Pat Metheny Group), Ruben Rada, and the legendary band, Opa, attracted media attention in the U.S., where he gained recognition as an upcoming talent in GUITAR PLAYER and JAZZIZ magazines. Formal music studies continued throughout his college career. He performed classical music recitals on National Public Radio and in numerous theaters. While attending the University School of Music in Uruguay, he was a founding member of The University Conservatory Jazz Quartet, the university’s first jazz ensemble, sponsored by the school in an effort to integrate jazz into the traditional curriculum. Beledo is the guitar player on the album, FORWARD MOTION, by the South African Jazz band, Ojoyo, featuring saxophonist and band leader, Morris Goldberg; drummer, Anton Fig and bassist Bakithi Kumalo. In 1996 Beledo toured Europe and the Caribbean with the TROPICAL TRIBUTE TO THE BEATLES, featuring Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Tito Nieves, Cheo Feliciano, and an all-star line up of Latin artists. Versed in classical theory, composition and technique, adept in the traditional styles of his birthplace, drawing inspiration from vast and diverse modern musical forms, Beledo has earned his place among the most sophisticated, versatile, and gifted artists of our time. His current CD, MONTEVIDEO JAZZ DREAMS features Stefon Harris, Randy Brecker, Manolo Badrena, Andy Middleton, David Finck, Jorge Camiruaga, and Chris Komer. Indeed, from a position of relative obscurity when he arrived in New York in 1959, he went on to become one of contemporary jazz’s most prolific and commercially successful composers. The main focus of this dissertation will be Zawinul’s rise to prominence in American jazz during the 1960s and 1970s.

  • PRESS RELEASE Artist: Maciek Schejbal Album: Afro-Polka Label: Afro-Polka Productions Release Date: August 30, 2018
PRESS RELEASE Artist: Maciek Schejbal Album: Afro-Polka Label: Afro-Polka Productions Release Date: August 30, 2018 Maciek Schejbal (pronounced MAH-chek SHAY-bal) is world-class drummer based in New York City. In addi- tion to gigging and touring with jazz bands and afro-pop groups, Maciek is an instructor at the Drummers Collec- tive in Manhattan. The Drummers Collective is generally thought of as the drumming equivalent of Los Angeles’ Guitar Institute of Technology. Afro-Polka is Maciek’s brand and a nascent genre of music. It’s the soundtrack of one musician’s voyage from Eastern Europe through South Africa to the USA. He has traveled, listened, learned and amalgamated a huge amount of styles, traditions and art forms into a strong, singular and original musical voice. From Cracow, to Johannesburg and Cape Town, and then onto New York City, Maciek has formed crack rhythm sections with some of the best bass players in the world. Afro-Polka great musicians he has collaborated with in his journeys. Don’t be scared by the polka, these fresh sounding tracks are is Maciek’s irst album consisting entirely of his compositions. The tunes are performed here with many very afro-pop and jazz focused. The polka is the added seasoning that makes it unique. Every player on this record is a virtuoso and has played in bands with or on albums of some very well known musical artists and they are all deserving of recognition. Due to space constraints and the emphasis on the Maciek’s partner- ships with bass players, here are some notable connections of the bass players on this album: Fred Doumbe (Manu Dibango, Les Nubians); Bakithi Kumalo (Paul Simon’s Graceland); Leo Traversa (Angelique Kidjo, Don Byron); Gregory Jones (Astrid Gilberto, Savion Glover); Essiet Okon Essiet (Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard); John Patitucci (Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea).

  • FAT – Fabulous Austrian Trio
"Maybe it's the inevitable wisdom of age, with Machacek now in his early 40s, but as impressive as "Living the Dream" is, and as much as it fits comfortably in his overall discography, it's the album where, despite its many twists and turns, harmonic, melodic and rhythmic surprises, and the evolving chemistry of FAT, it's also the album where all three musicians come together with a sense of nothing left to prove. And it's that very comfort level with each other, and that very feeling of maturity that makes "Living the Dream" an even better record than the superb "FAT"...and one of the very best in Machacek's growing discography." John Kelman/AllAboutJazz "Alex Machacek's music starts where other music ends" John McLaughlin's reaction to "[sic]" Alex Europareisen wurden zur Lebenserhaltungsmaßnahme für das Trio und so reifte genug Material für das erste Album der Band “FAT” (2010).

Charly García ‘El Prócer Oculto’ [Un relato a través de entrevistas a Sergio Marchi y Alfredo Rosso] Alumna: Laura Impellizzeri ‘Charly García: El Prócer Oculto’ Comunicación Social - UNLP 2017 Directora: Prof. Mónica Caballero Agradecimientos.

Palavras-chave: música popular, cinema, Charly García Abstract: In the first stage of Charly García‟s production, the cinema plays an important role. Several single songs, a thematic record and the music of two films are clear indications in this regard. The meaning space that opens from this subject allows appreciating some ideas that prevail in the author's proposal. Both the literal and the symbolic languages combine to convey a message of change to man extent but deeply involved in the social environment of his time. Keywords: popular music, film, Charly García O cinema constitui uma temática recorrente na ampla produção de Carlos Alberto Garcia Moreno (1951), Charly García.
