Jeffrey Epstein Returns for Second Season with New Host Tara Palmeri INVESTIGATIVE PODCAST BROKEN: JEFFREY EPSTEIN RETURNS FOR SECOND SEASON WITH NEW HOST TARA PALMERI Former White House Correspondent Palmeri to Lead Season’s Original Reporting NEW YORK, NY – March 5, 2020 – Acclaimed podcast Broken: Jeffrey Epstein returns for a second season on Thursday, March 26, with accomplished investigative and political journalist Tara Palmeri as the show’s new host, it was announced today by Three Uncanny Four Productions. The new season of the weekly podcast is executive produced by Adam Davidson and Laura Mayer at Three Uncanny Four Productions, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick at Hyperobject Industries, and Julie K. Brown from the Miami Herald. The full story of Jeffrey Epstein – the notorious financier, sex criminal and confidant to many of America’s most powerful politicians, billionaires, and entertainers – is far from over for Epstein’s victims, enablers, and friends as they continue to deal with the aftermath of his sudden death. Season 2 of Broken: Jeffrey Epstein will focus on the women who were assaulted by Epstein and their ongoing journey for justice. The new season also will examine the fallout around the people who helped Epstein perpetrate one of the largest sex-trafficking rings in history. As host, Palmeri will highlight first-hand survivor accounts, investigate new information, and spotlight Epstein’s alleged enablers as she tells the story of the women fighting for victims’ voices to be heard and explores who participated, aided and witnessed these crimes. The trailer for the new season is available now. Palmeri said, “To me, this story is bigger than Jeffrey Epstein. It’s about how our society treats women and how our power structures protect some of the worst abusers. I am excited to work with Three Uncanny Four to shed a light on important new stories, about both the brave women who have survived Epstein’s abuse and about the people who could help his victims find justice and accountability.” Prior to joining the Three Uncanny Four team, Palmeri gained national attention and broke several exclusive stories as a White House Correspondent at ABC News and Politico before that. Previously she served as a CNN Political Analyst and covered the European Union for Politico in Brussels. Her work has taken her across the globe, from covering President Trump’s first meetings with Kim Jong Un in Singapore to North Korea as one of the few American journalists with an official delegation. Davidson and Mayer said, “Tara’s dedication and passion for uncovering the truth will help shape the way we continue to explore the Epstein story. She is unafraid to ask tough questions and committed to authentically conveying experiences of those involved.” Broken: Jeffrey Epstein has been profiled in the New York Times, selected as podcast of the week by The Guardian, named a monthly podcast pick by The New Yorker and named one of the top 50 podcasts of 2019 by The Atlantic. It has also been selected as a New & Noteworthy pick in Apple Podcasts and has previously topped its true crime show chart with more than three million downloads. FILE PHOTO: Leon Black is pictured here in Beverly Hills, California, U.S. May 1, 2018. REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson/File Photo Guzel Ganieva’s latest accusation came in an amended civil complaint filed on Monday in a New York state court. The Russian model had sued Black on June 1, and Black countersued for defamation on July 19. Both are seeking unspecified damages. “Ms. Ganieva’s story today is demonstrably and transparently false and betrays her willingness to say anything and fabricate a story in the hope that something will stick,” Danya Perry, a lawyer for Black, said in a statement on Monday. Ganieva, now in her late 30s, previously accused Black of numerous instances of unwanted sexual conduct before having her sign a nondisclosure agreement in 2015, and defamation for publicly accusing her of trying to extort him. Black’s lawyers have said their client, who is married, had a consensual 6-1/2-year relationship with Ganieva, and paid her $100,000 a month for several years not to discuss it. In Monday’s complaint, Ganieva said Black picked her up in October 2008, purportedly for a lunch in Manhattan, but instead took her on a private jet to Florida, where Epstein had a home.

  • This Version Has the Raw Data in an Appendix)
Accepted for publication in 2020 by the International Journal of Communication, ijoc.org (this version has the raw data in an appendix) Podcasting as Public Media: The Future of U.S. News, Public Affairs and Educational Podcasts PATRICIA AUFDERHEIDE American University, USA DAVID LIEBERMAN The New School, USA ATIKA ALKHALLOUF American University, USA JIJI MAJIRI UGBOMA The New School, USA This article identifies a U.S.-based podcasting ecology as public media, and then examines the threats to its future. It first identifies characteristics of a set of podcasts in the U.S. that allow them to be usefully described as public podcasting. Second, it looks at current business trends in podcasting as platformization proceeds. Third, it identifies threats to public podcasting’s current business practices. Finally, it analyzes responses within public podcasting to the potential threats. It concludes that currently, the public podcast ecology in the U.S. maintains some immunity from the most immediate threats, but that as well there are underappreciated threats to it both internally and externally. Keywords: podcasting, public media, platformization, business trends, public podcasting ecology As U.S. podcasting becomes an increasingly commercially-viable part of the media landscape, are its public-service functions at risk? This article explores that question, in the process postulating that the concept of public podcasting has utility in describing, not only a range of podcasting practices, but an ecology within the larger podcasting ecology—one that permits analysis of both business methods and social practices, one that deserves attention and even protection. This analysis contributes to the burgeoning literature on podcasting by enabling focused research in this area, permitting analysis of the sector in ways that permit thinking about the relationship of mission and business practice sector-wide.
