The first issue from Fall 1992 describes the organization's founding and first year, analyzes a lawsuit brought by a faculty member at Massachusetts Institute of Technology against her institution charging acquiescing in "a persistent and continuing pattern of professional, political and sexual harassment," reviews books of interest, and reports on media coverage of "political correctness." The Spring 1993 issue includes reports on a national lobbying organization for scholarly societies, the 1,olitical fate of possible Clinton-Administration appointee Johnetta Cole, and commentary from several contributors on national politics, higher education culture, liberalism and multiculturalism, and feminism and classical studies. The Fall 1993 issue contains articles on critical pedagogy, a debate over politics at Louisiana State University, consequences of the Reagan-Bush administrations, commentary on national politics, and other essays as well as monitoring of media coverage of higher education. The Spring 1994 issue offers 14 essays and reports on a variety of topics relating to the "politically correct" debate in academia. The Fall 1994 issue is devoted to analysis and commentary of "Who Stole Feminism: How Women Have Been Betrayed by Women" by Christina H. Sommers. The lines are now blurred between political, civil, and military information environments. The rise of influence activities is the new ‘sharp power’ in information warfare (the iWar). Western democracies are already at war in the information domain and are being out-communicated by their adversaries. Building on the commentary surrounding this contemporary threat, and based on a review of the literature across three academic disciplines of: Systems Thinking, Influence, and Cognitive Theory; this study aimed to investigate solutions for improving Australia’s influence effectiveness in the iWar. This study asked how systems thinking can offer an effective approach to holistically understanding complex social systems in the iWar; as well as asking why understanding both successful influencing strategies and psychological cognitive theories is central to analysing those system behaviours. To answer the aim, a systems thinking methodology was employed to compare two contrasting case studies to determine their respective influencing effectiveness. The successful case system comprising the terrorist group ISIS was compared and contrasted with the unsuccessful case system of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 election campaign – using a single stock of influence to determine relevant reinforcing and balancing feedback.

Introduction In the movie Spring Breakers (2012), by Harmony Korine, a group of young college girls travel to Florida to participate to the Spring Break, the well-known mass party. It is an escape from the monotony of university, classes, routine and the world they’ve always known: “I’m tired of seeing always the same things”, they complain as a justification for the trip. During the break, their quest for adrenaline and limit experiences quickly escalates: once the excitement of the party ceases, they end up robbing a store at gun point and getting involved with an obscure drug dealer that leads them into a full-scale shooting against a rival criminal organization. The movie seems to suggest that even the most extreme and limit experiences, as exciting and powerful as they can be, are not able to provide a steady, authentic life, some substance to hold on to, just intense chaos and violence. It is tempting to read the film as a growing realization of the limits the rebellious- Dionysian1 escape, one that seems central in the cultural logic of late capitalism; that it may have become an exhausted or sterile path towards emancipation —what the characters of the movie ultimately seek—and that, perhaps, a comeback, an acceptance of an authentic, solid and monotonous existence is desirable.

Su vida y su obra han influido en expresiones artísticas diversas y, dentro de ellas, el cine nos ofrece varios planteamientos frente a la figura del pintor, convirtiéndolo en protagonista o secundario en función del argumento de la película. Class of 2006 War Studies Conference Potential Disruptors of the ‘American Way of War’ This was the third annual Class of 2006 War Studies Conference, sponsored by the Modern War Institute, a research center housed within the Department of Military Instruction at the United States Military Academy. The event allowed distinguished representatives from the private sector, government, academia, think-tank community, and the joint military services to debate and discuss issues related to modern war and warfare. This year’s conference explored the issue of next-generation warfare and potential disruptors to the “American way of war.” Specifically, the conference explored the following questions: • What are the current and future megatrends that will reshape our military effectiveness? • Can new technologies like AI reduce the fog and friction of the battlefield? • How do they fit into America’s larger strategy to win its future wars? • How can the Pentagon and Silicon Valley partner more seamlessly to foster military innovation? The above themes will inform a future edited conference volume, coauthored by a select group of participants and other experts, which is intended to frame a conversation with policymakers, senior military leaders, and other decision makers in the years ahead. The War Studies Conference volume will identify ways in which to move the current discussions on next-generation warfare forward to prepare ourselves for tomorrow’s battlefields.

INTRODUCTION The ubiquity of social media in modern society carries with it a host of national security concerns, some of which require new approaches, new legal frameworks, and new policies to adequately address them. The current major national security concerns in the social media space are the active measures and disinformation campaigns.1 Most notable among them are the ones led by Kremlin-backed elements. These campaigns not only lead to interference in Western democratic institutions, but they also cause panic through fake news stories amplified by bots and trolls.
