Pierre Mignard (1612-1695), Louis XIV period (Workshop) Portrait of a young lady of quality Oil on oval canvas 74 cm by 60 cm in the framework of 91 cm by 76 cm carved with beautiful gilding sets of oak leaves and acorns. This table XVIIth century, around 1680, is a charming young lady of quality, it is capped at Fontange with two eye-hearts, very red lips, respecting the codes and the fashion of his time. She is wearing a gray satin pearl fully embroidered with gold son. In a valuable gesture she staple a blue velvet stole. Pierre Mignard, French classical painter of the seventeenth century, is best known for his portraits of the royal family or of his contemporaries. His reputation began during a trip to Rome in the early 1650s In 1657, Louis XIV invited him to to work for the Court, and a step in saw his first meeting with Molière. He settled there a strong friendship and the painter became one of the few close to the actor outside his company. In 1664 Mignard performed the frescoes of the church of Val de Grace in Paris, Molière wrote in a eulogy published in 1669. Although he received royal approval, Mignard refused repeatedly to enter the Academy Royal painting and sculpture. It nevertheless became its director in 1690. Admired in the seventeenth, considered a model in the eighteenth, it will be forgotten or denigrated in the history of art from the nineteenth century.
