Vasile MOLDOVEANU – Beausoleil, France The Romanian tenor Vasile Moldoveanu sang for more than three decades on the biggest scenes of the world. He followed Canto studies in the class of Octav Enigărescu from the "Ciprian Porumbescu" Conservatory - currently National Music University of Bucharest. He improved his vocal mastery with the famous tenor Dinu Badescu. He sang for the first time in 1966 at the Romanian Opera – todday National Opera Bucharest, with the role of Arlecchino (Pagliacci). Here he was applauded for seven seasons, initially in secondary roles, then supporting some of the main roles Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Rodolfo (La bohème), Il Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Tamino (Die Zauberflote - his last performance in Romania, on June 23, 1972). He makes recordings for the Electrecord Label, in secondary roles (La Traviata, Samson and Dalila, Carmen). In 1972 he arrives in Germany and decides not to return to Communist Romania, for which he is condemned, in contumacy, for "homeland betrayal". But his artistic career will take place in the most important scenes of the world: the debut with the role of Manrico (Il Trovatore) at the Opera House in Regensburg. It followed in Amsterdam the Netherlands, Rodolfo (La bohème) and Il Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto) in Switzerland (Saint Gallen). In the next year, he debuted at the Vienna State Opera with Alfredo (Traviata), followed by Don Carlo from the homonym opera. In 1974 he signed a four-year contract with the Stuttgart Opera for the roles: Edgardo (Lucia di Lamermoor), Rodolfo (La bohème), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Alfredo (La Traviata). In 1976 he sang, at the Münich Opera, to the production of Rigoletto (Il Duca di Mantova) directed by Roman Polansky. With his beginnings on the stage of the great German opera theaters, he sang in Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Münich, Berlin, Ludwigsburg, etc. He was discovered by Nelly Walter, vice-president of Columbia Artists Management, who became and remained his impresario for 11 years and proposed him to the New York Metropolitan Opera. In 1977, he is awarded the title of Kammersenger (which offers to the first-rank artists honored with this title the official recognition of the exceptional qualities, the career and the value of the one) granted by the German Minister of Culture during a ceremony, on the stage of the Stuttgart Opera House. In the European period - Germany, France and Switzerland, his repertoire, besides the already mentioned roles, was enriched with Edgardo (Lucia di Lamermoor), Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Arrigo (I vespri siciliani), Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Carlo (Giovanna D'Arco) Don Jose (Carmen), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), Carlo (I Masnadieri), etc. He sang for the first time at the New York Metropolitan Opera on May 19, 1977 (during the "MET Tour") at the Minneapolis Opera in Rodolfo (La Bohème). At the the MET followed a series of 105 performances starring Don Carlo (Don Carlo), Luigi (Il Tabarro), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), Turridu (Cavaleria rusticana), Arrigo (I vespri siciliani), Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly). His latest appearances in the US - at the Denver Opera: Calaf (Turandot) and Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), Minneapolis Opera and Baltimore Opera House. In 1979 he made his debut at Covent Garden Opera as Don Carlo in his homonymous opera in a historical production by Luchino Visconti. On the American continent he is invited and re-invited by the Operas of Hartford, Washington, Chicago, Fort Worth, Pittsburgh, San Jose, San Francisco, Cleveland, Boston, Atlanta, Denver. In 1984 he sang in Pretoria and Johannesburg (Des Grieux - Manon Lescaut - five performances), Pretoria (Riccardo - Un ballo in maschera - 7 performances). After November 1986 he returned to Europe and continued his career with the main romatic roles in France in Paris (Des Grieux - Manon Lescaut and Maurizio - Adrienne Lecouvreur), Montpellier (Mario Cavaradossi - Tosca), Monaco (Arrigo - I vespri siciliani and Radames - Aida), Nice (Dick Johnson - La fanciulla del West - and Radames - Aida), in Italy - Rome (Calaf - Turandot) and Parma (Don Carlo - Don Carlo), in Portugal - Lisbon (Des Grieux - Manan Lescaut), in Germany - Berlin (Edgardo - Lucia di Lamermoor, Mario Cavaradossi - Tosca), Hamburg (Turridu - Cavaleria rusticana, Des Grieux - Manon Lescaut, Don Carlo - Don Carlo), Stuttgart (Pinkerton - Madama Butterfly, Mario Cavaradossi - Tosca) ), Münich (Rodolfo - La Bohème), Bonn (Don Jose - Carmen) in the Netherlands to Amsterdam (Mario Cavaradossi - Tosca), etc. He sang on all the great stages of the world, with the only exception being the Milan Opera House, whose collaboration he refused, having been committed for years, especially with the New York Metropolitan Opera. He returned in Romania, for the first time, on 2010, after almost 40 years and he asked to be restored in his civil rights and he received o positive answer. Starting with this year, he dedicates himself to the vocal training of the young performers in Romania and comes regularly at the invitation of some opera theaters in the country - National Opera House Iasi, Nae Leonard Theater Galati - and the Princess Margareta Foundation which appointed him as mentor for the singing section. He is decorated with the Order of Star of Romania in Commander rank - 2012, one of the oldest and highest awards in Romania. .
