Members present The following Council Members were present at the meeting in Cavtat-Dubrovnik, Croatia on 10th June 2013: President Gian Franco Kasper, Vice-Presidents Janez Kocijancic, Bill Marolt and Sverre Seeberg, Members Mats Årjes, Andrey Bokarev, Dean Gosper, Alfons Hörmann, Roman Kumpost, Vedran Pavlek, Flavio Roda, Eduardo Roldan, Peter Schroecksnadel, Patrick Smith, Matti Sundberg, Michel Vion, and Secretary General Sarah Lewis. Excused: Sung-Won Lee 2. Minutes from the Council Meeting in Oberhofen (SUI), November 2012 The minutes from the Council Meeting in Oberhofen (SUI) on 3rd November 2012 were approved. 3. The FIS World Championships 3.1 Report on the 2013 FIS World Championships The Council expressed its sincere thanks to the Organising Committees and the National Ski Associations for the organisation of the respective FIS World Championships which successfully took place last winter: • FIS Snowboard World Championships 2013, Stoneham (CAN) 18th to 27th January: Council Member Patrick Smith • FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013, Schladming (AUT) 4th to 17th February: Council Member Peter Schroecksnadel • FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013, Val di Fiemme (ITA) 20th February to 3rd March: Council Member Flavio Roda • FIS Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2013, Voss (NOR) 5th to 10th March: Vice-President Sverre Seeberg 3.2 Report on future FIS World Championships The Council Members and representatives on behalf of the respective National Ski Associations reported on the following upcoming events and provided written reports from the Organising Committees: • FIS Skiflying World Championships 2014, Harrachov (CZE) 14th to 16th March: Council Member Roman Kumpost • FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015, Vail/Beaver Creek (USA) 3rd to 15th February: Vice-President Bill Marolt • FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015, Falun (SWE), 18th February to 1st March: Council Member Mats Årjes • FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard World Championships 2015, Kreischberg/Murau (AUT), 16th to 25th January: Council Member Peter Schröcksnadel • FIS Skiflying World Championships 2016, Kulm/Bad Mitterndorf (AUT), January 2016 dates to be confirmed: Council Member Peter Schröcksnadel • FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2017, St. Moritz (SUI) President Gian Franco Kasper • FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017, Lahti (FIN) Council Member Matti Sundberg • FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard World Championships 2017, Sierra Nevada (SPA): Council Member Eduardo Roldan The Council acknowledged the reports and that all the various preparations appear to be going according to schedule. In the case of the proposal from the Organising Committee and Swedish Ski Association that is supported by a majority of the Cross-Country Committee to carry out the ladies 30km and men’s 50km as interval starts, the Council agreed that FIS addresses this question with the television and marketing rights holders, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), since the contract states that the competitions will be carried out as mass start races. Furthermore, the Council acknowledged that the programme of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek (USA) will be adapted to facilitate one extra day of Short Summary FIS Council Meeting, Cavtat-Dubrovnik (CRO), June 2013 - 3 - downhill training to enable at least two full downhill training runs and thereafter submitted to the Council at its Meeting in November 2013. 3.3 Candidates for future FIS World Championships The Council appointed the following new Organisers: - Grandvalira/Pas de la Casa Pas (Andorra) as Organiser of the Speed Skiing World Championships 2015. - La Plagne (FRA) as Organiser of the Telemark World Championships 2017. The Council acknowledged receipt of the following applications for future FIS World Championships, all of which were submitted by 1st May 2013 according to the regulations, with the registration fee and guarantee for training days. Presentations to the FIS Council during the FIS Congress week in Barcelona (SPA) will take place on Tuesday 3rd June 2014 in accordance with the procedures established, with the election by the Council taking place on Thursday 5th June. 2018 Skiflying Oberstdorf, GER 2019 Nordic Events Seefeld, AUT Oberstdorf, GER Almaty, KAZ Planica, SLO Alpine Events Cortina d’Ampezzo, ITA Åre, SWE Freestyle Skiing/Snowboard Events At the time of completing the Comments on the Agenda, no candidacies had been submitted. The Council decided therefore to set a new deadline of 1st October 2013 for Freestyle Skiing/Snowboard applications. 3.4 Television and Marketing Rights for the FIS Alpine and Nordic World Ski Championships The Council awarded the exclusive television and marketing rights for the FIS World Championships in the Alpine and Nordic Events for 2019 and 2021 to Infront Sports and Media. An offer had also been received from the existing rights holder, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), during their period of exclusive negotiation. 4. The FIS Junior World Championships 4.1 Reports FIS Junior World Championships 2013 Short Summary FIS Council Meeting, Cavtat-Dubrovnik (CRO), June 2013 - 4 - The Council Members from the respective National Ski Associations and representatives reported on the following concluded events: • FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2013, Liberec (CZE) 20th to 27th January: Council Member Roman Kumpost • FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2013, Le Massif, Quebec (CAN) 19th to 28th February: Council Member Patrick Smith • FIS Freestyle Skiing Junior World Ski Championships 2013, Valmalenco (ITA) 26th to 31st March: Council Member Flavio Roda • FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships 2013, Erzurum (TUR), 1st to 11th March: Secretary General Sarah Lewis on behalf of the Turkish Ski Association The Council acknowledged the reports on each of the Championships and thanked the Organising Committees and their National Ski Associations for excellent events. 4.2 Future FIS Junior World Championships The Council Members from and on behalf of the respective National Ski Associations reported on the following upcoming events: • FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2014, Val di Fiemme (ITA): Council Member Flavio Roda • FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2014, Jasna (SVK): Council Member Roman Kumpost on behalf of the Slovakian Ski Association • FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships 2015, Harbin (CHN): Vice President Gian Franco Kasper on behalf of the Chinese Ski Association in the absence of Vice President Sung Won Lee The Council acknowledged the progress reports on behalf of the various Organising Committees and confirmed that it will be represented at the respective Championships by the Council Member from the host nation where possible. 4.3 Candidates for future FIS Junior World Championships The Council appointed the following new Organisers: - Valmalenco (ITA) as Organiser of the FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Junior World Ski Championships, March 2014. - Geilo (NOR) as Organiser of the Telemark Junior World Championships 2014. - Hafjell (NOR) as Organiser of the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2015. This is also designed to serve as a “test event” for the 2016 Youth Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer. - Almaty (KAZ) as Organiser of the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2015. Short Summary FIS Council Meeting, Cavtat-Dubrovnik (CRO), June 2013 - 5 - 5. The International Olympic Committee / Olympic Winter Games FIS President Gian Franco Kasper reported on the activities of the International Olympic Committee: - The next IOC Session will take place in Buenos Aires (ARG) from 7th - 10th September 2013, during which both the new IOC President and the Organiser of the Olympic Games in 2020 will be elected. - The following persons have submitted their candidacy as the next IOC President: Thomas Bach (GER), Sergey Bubka (UKR), Richard Carrion (PUR), Ser Miang Ng (SIN), Denis Oswald (SUI), Ching-Kuo Wu (TPE). They will present their candidacies to the IOC Members on 4th and 5th July in Lausanne. - Three Candidates are vying for the Olympic Games in 2020: Istanbul (TUR), Madrid (SPA) and Tokyo (JPN) each of whom have undergone an inspection by the IOC Evaluation Commission in February and March.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CIS celebrates first International Day of University Sport Sept. 20, 2016 TORONTO (CIS) – Canadian Interuniversity Sport, as the Canadian representative of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), is proud to celebrate the first International Day of University Sport (IDUS) on Sept. 20. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced Tuesday’s inaugural celebration of IDUS in November 2015. The historic event marks the anniversary of the first student world championship held Sept. 17-21, 1924 in Warsaw, Poland. CIS is one of 170 national university sport federations around the world, participating annually in up to 50 sporting events on the annual FISU calendar, including Summer and Winter Universiades and world university championships. In the last international cycle, over 14,000 athletes competed at the 2015 FISU Games, while another 6,000 attended world university championship events in 2014. Canada sent over 400 athletes combined to the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea and the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain. The 2016 world university championships run until December, while the next Summer and Winter Universiades are scheduled for Jan. 29-Feb. 8 and Aug. 19-30, 2017 in Almaty, Kazakhstan and Taipei City, Taipei. CIS boasts over 12,000 student-athletes and 700 coaches from 56 universities who vie for 21 national championships in 12 different sports on an annual basis. In the last two years, 50 of the 56 member schools were represented at international events, and over 3,100 Canadian student- athletes were named Academic All-Canadians in 2014-15.
