ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(A) AND THE MOTORWAY TRAFFIC (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 1982 - SECTION 16(2) THE (JUNCTION 6A TO NORTH OF JUNCTION 14) AND A414 TRUNK ROAD, HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, HERTFORDSHIRE (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (a) has made an Order on the M1 Motorway and A414 Trunk Road in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and to enable essential maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to take place overnight (10pm – 6am, continuing to 7am on Saturday and Sunday mornings) between 1 February 2017 and 30 April 2017. The works will be carried out in phases using full carriageway or slip road closures and lane closures with hard shoulder running. The closures will be applied only to the extent that is necessary for particular works to be undertaken and will only apply during such times and to such extent as will be indicated by traffic signs. The effect of the Order will be to– 1. impose a 50 miles per hour speed limit with no overtaking on the northbound carriageway of the M1 from a point 600 metres north of the entry slip road at J14 to a point 900 metres south of the exit slip road to Services; and 2. close the- M1 carriageway- • northbound from the exit slip road at J6 to the exit slip road at J9, • northbound from the entry slip road at J9 to the exit slip road at J11, • northbound from the entry slip road from to the exit slip road to Newport Pagnell Services, • southbound from the exit slip road at J14 to the exit slip road at J12, • southbound from the exit slip road at J11 to the exit slip road at J6, M1 slip roads- • northbound exit and entry slip roads at J6, J7, J8, J9, J10, J12, J13 and J14, • northbound exit slip road at J11, • northbound exit and entry slip roads at Toddington Services, • northbound entry slip road at J6A from the clockwise and anticlockwise M25 at J21, • southbound exit and entry slip roads at J14, J13, J11, J10, J9, J8, J7, and J6, • southbound exit slip road at J6A to the clockwise and anticlockwise M25 at J21, and • southbound exit slip road at J12, A414 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Green Lane Roundabout, Hemel Hempstead and Park Street Roundabout, St Albans – diverting eastbound traffic north via the A414 westbound to Maylands Avenue, Swallowdale Lane, Redbourn Road B487 and A5183 to M1 J9, or from Green Lane Roundabout south via the A414 westbound, Two Waters Road, A41 south, A405 to Park Street Roundabout, St Albans, vice versa for westbound traffic, and A1081 westbound carriageway from Newlands Road bridge to its junction with the roundabout at M1 J10. The dedicated lane linking the London Road (Kidney Wood) Interchange to the M1 southbound entry will remain open to traffic. A Gateman will direct traffic at the entry point at the London Road (Kidney Wood) interchange to proceed to M1 southbound. M1 northbound traffic will be directed via the M1 southbound to J9 where they will join the M1 northbound carriageway. During the slip road and carriageway closures traffic wishing to enter or leave the M1 will be diverted on or off the motorway at the nearest open slip road and return to the original junction via the opposite carriageway in order to continue their journey. The temporary mandatory speed restriction (which will not apply to emergency service or special forces vehicles), closures (which will not apply to emergency service, winter maintenance, traffic officer or works vehicles) and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.
