The navy blue and red pinstripe suits for both men and women will replace the traditional dark blue checked uniform range, creating a distinctive new look which will also make it easier for passengers to recognise GNER staff. The new uniform range will also be worn all year round Practical features include suit fabric that repels dust, an all-seasons navy blue raincoat with a removable Thinsulate lining and an under-jacket belt for on-train crews to carry essential items such as train keys. All fabrics used in the uniforms, including special polywool mixes, have been especially selected for their durability, comfort and practicality and are unique to GNER. Employees, union and safety representatives were consulted during the 18-month design process and their suggestions have inspired many of the new uniform's features.

John Lewins Historic local Swindon engine returns to action at Hayes Knoll The Swindon & Cricklade Railway welcomed a local engine back into traffic on 30 July, when the line's restored 40hp Fowler 0-4-0DM Woodbine was officially launched. The locomotive was built by John Fowler in Leeds in 1936 and delivered to the W.D & H. O. Wills factory in Swindon. Its claim to fame being its registration by the GWR in 1941 as No. 211 to allow it to work over GW metals at Swindon. The locomotive was finally donated to the S&CR in November 1980 and was used for several months until a damaged clutch sidelined the loco until the late 1980s when it was named Woodbine and placed on an isolated piece of track in the station car park, following a brief period of service. Full restoration commenced in 2001 by which time the locomotive had suffered a seized engine and had several parts missing. However, now fully serviceable again, it will be used for special events and the restorers hope the occasional visit to other lines as an ambassador for the railway.
