“Conditions of Competition”

The Club’s “Conditions of Competition” were amended on the 27 November 2017. The following clauses were amended:

7. CHANGING OF PARTNERS

In 4 ball better ball competitions players must remain with their designated partners as per the timesheet, unless changes are brought to the attention of the starter prior to the group teeing off and the timesheet is amended accordingly. (Applies to 4 balls only)

8. SWINGERS

In the event of a three ball on the timesheet players are to play with their designated partners at all times. The player without a partner is to use the player with the lowest handicap of the pairing as a 15. “swinger” COMPETITION – in the COMMITTEE event they have the same handicap they must spin a coin and notify the starter.

1) Niall Keller

2) Colin Jacobs

3) Donovan Dawson

4) Richard Nell

Clauses 7 & 8 are of particular importance, and we request members to make themselves fully conversant with the Club’s “Conditions of Competition” to avoid disqualification. The Club’s “Conditions of Competition” are posted on the Notice Board, and copies may be obtained from the Club manager.

LEAGUE NEWS

As 2017 comes to an end, Milnerton Club can look back with pride on the performances of our league teams in the various Western Province Golf Union competitions throughout the year. To recap:

Premier League

The 2017 Premier League was played during January and February with the club fielding both an A and a B side, and both having a chance to win the league on the final day with the A-side finishing 2nd tie first on points and the B-side one point behind the top three who all finished on 12 points.

Harry Solomon League

In what in Cape Town is known as “The most hotly contested golf team event outside The …” The Milnerton Harry Solomon team won the league defeating the top seeds and winners of the past two years, King David Mowbray in the final at Metropolitan on Sunday, 13 August. Milnerton and King David Mowbray A were the top seeds following the round robin and knockout stages, both teams being unbeaten. In the final, after nine holes King David Mowbray had the upper-hand but it was always going to be close, with our boys staging a comeback on the final nine holes to win the match 4½ – 3½ and lift the trophy.

Masters League

The Masters League, which was played from August through to November, this year our masters team struggled with consistency and failed to make the play-off rounds finishing mid table in their Pool.

West Coast Challenge

The annual rivalry between Atlantic Beach, Langebaan, Malmesbury and us continues….and once more Milnerton came out tops after the 4 round challenge clinching the title in the final round at Langebaan Country Estate on 11 November 2017.

Mid-Amateur League

And to finish, our Mid-Amateur won the league, following an unbeaten campaign, beating the hot favourites Westlake in the final this past Saturday, 25 November, at Steenberg.

Our very own Donavan Dawson played in the Western Province Mid- Amateur B Team that outplayed Boland 9.5 - 6.5 in a friendly fixture played on 19 October 2017 at Robertson.

A Final Word……..

In closing it’s not just the Springboks & Stormers that have had tough years, spare a though for our very own “TSWANE BROTHERS” who have also gone through difficult times when playing as a pairing………

“Please Sir, would you mind donating a few cards for a worthy cause!”

Until next time, HAPPY GOLFING!
