With a State of Germany population of approximately 3.7 million,[4] Berlin is the most populous city proper in the European Union and the sixth most populous urban area in the European Union.[5] Located in northeastern Germany on the banks of the rivers Spree and Havel, it is the centre of the Berlin- Brandenburg Metropolitan Region, which has roughly 6 million residents from more than 180 nations[6][7][8][9], making it the sixth most populous urban area in the European Union.[5] Due to its location in the European Plain, Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Around one- third of the city's area is composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers, canals and lakes.[10] First documented in the 13th century and situated at the crossing of two important historic trade routes,[11] Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg (1417–1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1918), the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933) and the Third Reich (1933–1945).[12] Berlin in the 1920s was the third largest municipality in the world.[13] After World War II and its subsequent occupation by the victorious countries, the city was divided; East Berlin was declared capital of East Germany, while West Berlin became a de facto West German exclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall [14] (1961–1989) and East German territory. -

Erdheilungsreise nach Berlin mit Inaara & Anna Vom 15. - 21. Juni 2011 Berlin! Dieser Ruf in mir wurde in den letzten Monaten immer lauter..... Berlin! Was sollte ich dort? Und wann? Warum Berlin? Ich war noch nie dort… Und außerdem, das ganze Jahr war wie die Jahre zuvor verplant. Seit Elias zur Schule geht ist Reisen nur in den Ferien möglich, und diese waren nun mal verplant.... In den Faschingsferien waren wir mit der Ausbildungsgruppe in Ägypten, trotz all der Schwierigkeiten die die politische Lage dort mit sich brachte. Berlin? Ursprünglich sollte ich zu dieser Zeit in Korfu sein, doch die Ausbildung in Angel - Therapy sollte dieses Mal in Freising stattfinden. Keine einzige Anmeldung für Korfu - das gab es noch nie..., aber viele Anfragen zur Ausbildung wie: „Warum machst Du sie nicht in Freising“? Als ich endlich kapierte was die Engel wollten, setzten wir kurzfristig den 1. Teil der Ausbildung über Pfingsten in Freising an. Der Kurs war wieder voll belegt , wie immer wunderschön und sehr informativ! Die Engel gaben durch das unsere ganzen Erdheilungsreisen nach Ägypten, Jordanien, Israel, Griechenland und Malta nötig gewesen wären, um jetzt den nächsten Schritt in Angriff nehmen zu können - den Freisinger Domberg, mit seinem Mutterkristall zu heilen. Freising war immer ein Machtzentrum der Kirche, früher hochrangiger als München, der Machtbereich und Besitz vom Freisinger Kirchenamt reichte bis in die Steiermark, Annas und meiner Heimat. Wichtige Ley-Lines gehen genau über den Domberg, damals wusste die katholische Kirche schon wo sie ihre Kirchen hinbauen sollte. Es waren meist Kraftorte. Malta ist zum Beispiel eines der hochenergetischsten Plätze der Erde. -

The path to success in this competition was made easier and manageable by all the special people I met who supported us along the way. May I begin with a special thanks to a very special friend of WIPAC, Her Excellency Elena Poptodorova, Ambassador of Bulgaria, who has been a bright light that shines on that path. Her generosity had no bounds, always welcoming and standing ready to open the door to help us. National Identity in Crisis: Post-1990 Holocaust Cinema in Israel, Germany, and Hollywood Gary Jenkins Thesis for the qualification of Doctor of Philosophy School of Modern Languages, Newcastle University January 2017 ii Abstract Taking a comparative approach, my PhD thesis investigates the relationship between recent cinematic representations of the Holocaust in Israel, Germany, and Hollywood, and formations of national identity. Focusing on the ways in which specific political and cultural factors shape dominant discourses surrounding the Nazis’ attempt to destroy the European Jewry, I argue that the Holocaust is central to a crisis in national identity in all three countries. Whereas Holocaust films have traditionally reinforced the socio-political ideals informing the context of their production, however, the analysis of my central corpus demonstrates that this cinema can also be seen to challenge dominant discourses expressing the values that maintain established notions of national identity. Central to this challenge is the positioning of the nation as either a victim or perpetrator with regards to the Holocaust. The presentation of opposing narratives in my central corpus of films suggests a heterogeneity that undermines the tendency in dominant discourses to present victim and perpetrator positions as mutually exclusive. The trajectory from one position to its opposite is itself informed by generational shifts. As a consequence, I also discuss the perspectives offered by members of the second and third generations whose focus on particular aspects of the Holocaust challenge the discourses established by the previous one. By way of conclusion, I focus on the transnational aspect of Holocaust film. In highlighting a number of commonalities across the three cinemas discussed in my thesis, I argue that in addition to expressing themes that relate to the issue of national identity, these films also suggest the construction of ‘identity communities’ that exist beyond state borders. -

Exchange Report Freie Universität Berlin After coming to Berlin, I had to start immediately with classes. Before the courses started I had the change to take a German language course. It was an intensive course offered for all international students that takes place in September until the mid-October, before the courses started. The course was quite good, and the classes were quite small, and we could interact with the teacher. Unfortunately, if you do not have some knowledge of German you can not take this course since there are no language course for beginner offered by the university. One of the struggle that I has was finding the courses that I wanted for my exchange semester. After I came to Berlin I tried to sign up for the courses that I had in my learning agreement, unfortunately, l found out that some master programme taught in English, even if are offered by the Freie Universität Berlin, they are not for Erasmus students and I was told that I had to pay if I wanted to take these courses. Since, the price for the curses was quite high I decided to take some other classes in entrepreneurship. However, if you decided to take a course that are not from your department it is up to the professor to accept students to take part to a course or not. I tried to ask to take some classes in entrepreneurship and in many cases I was told that there was not more space for those courses and that I could not join the class. -

A double row of cobblestones traces its 3.5 mile (5.5 km) route through the city center, while the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse includes a preserved 197 ft. (60 m) strip of “no man’s land” where the wall once divided the city.
