Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Peru and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

The diplomatic relations between Peru and Luxembourg started in 1953. The Embassy of Peru established in , in the Kingdom of Belgium, is concurrently accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as the official channel of communication, as well as the Diplomatic Mission responsible for the bilateral relation. Luxembourg has an Honorary Consulate in Peru.

The relation with Luxembourg has a significant potential for boosting the economy, trade and investments.

In the same way, given the fact that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a Member State of the Schengen area, it is part of the Agreement between the and the Republic of Peru on the short-stay visa waiver, that has come into force since 3 December 2015.

High level visits

– In 2003, Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Mrs. Lydie Polfer, visited Peru.

– In 2006, Luxembourg Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Mr. , visited our country.

– In 2008, Mr. Asselborn took part in the V Summit ALC-UE held in Lima.

– In 2015, on the occasion of the II Summit CELAC-UE held in Brussels, the President of the Republic met with Luxembourg Prime Minister, Mr. .

– In 2017, visit of Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg as part of the 130th meeting of the International Olympic Committee.

– In 2017, working visit of Luxembourg’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean Asselborn.

Agreements

– Convention on the adoption of children and teenagers between the Technical Secretariat for Adoptions and the Luxembourg-Peru Association, signed on 16 August 1994.

– Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Peru and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg regarding the “Peru-Ecuador Border Binational Comprehensive Project” EC-PE/001, signed on 23 October 2003.

– Convention for the Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments between Peru and the BLEU (Belgium-Luxembourg Economic Union). It was signed in Brussels in October 2005 and has been in force since September 2008.
