Potremmo così riassumere il commento ai risultati di questo nostro ennesimo poll, stavolta dedicato agli anni 90. Nessuna sorpresa di rilievo, quanto meno ai piani alti. I Radiohead confermano la loro statura di gruppo guida del decennio, seguiti a breve distanza dai Nirvana. Pur potendo votare più album per ciascun autore, la maggior parte dei votanti ha optato per votare “OK Computer”, piuttosto che “The Bends” (solo 66°), un disco che comunque negli anni, rispetto al primo, ha visto salire le proprie quotazioni. Nessuna preferenza per il debutto degli inglesi, “Pablo Honey”, da sempre considerato unanimemente poco più di un buon debutto. In rapporto al peso che acquisisce nella discografia dei Nirvana il classico “Nevermind”, può semmai meravigliare il buon risultato raggiunto dall'anomalo live album “Unplugged In New York” (un disco dei Nirvana che non contiene una versione di “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, il brano di punta del repertorio, al 19° posto).

    Mark Mulholland and Craig Ward –“Waiting for the Storm” Released on CD and Download via Cannery Row Records and Jezus Factory Records on 3rd September 2012 Mark Mulholland and Craig Ward's music represents their own take on the British folk tradition of Graham, Jansch, Renbourn et al. Friends since their teens, when both were playing in bands in Glasgow and Edinburgh in the late '80s, the two have been travelling and playing music since, crossing paths at various points along the way. Craig produced Mark's band Two Dollar Bash's third album, “Lost River”, and accompanied the band on a 5 week North American tour in 2007. Around this time, the pair started talking of recording an album together, drawing from their mutual influences of the likes of Pentangle and Nick Drake. In the course of 2010 and 2011, they met up for a series of recording sessions in Berlin, Antwerp and Rotterdam, and the resulting album, “Waiting for the Storm”, was released in September 2012 by the Berlin label Cannery Row Records and the London-based Jezus Factory Records, accompanied by a tour of the UK, Ireland and France. The line-up is completed with the addition of Belgian double-bass player Hannes d'Hoine, and the trio completed a successful tour of Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic in February and March 2012, and of Belgium, the UK and France in August/September 2012. Mark Mulholland's musical peregrinations have taken him through most of Europe and North America to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he is now based.

In dieser Szene gibt es so gut wie keinen Musiker, der nicht in mehreren Formationen parallel die unterschiedlichsten Genres kombiniert, obendrein sind bald alle Musiker auch noch in weiteren Kunstformen aktiv und dort oft auch sehr erfolgreich. So war es auch, als sich dEUS im Jahr 1991 gründeten: der Nukleus dieser extrem bezugsoffenen Band bildete sich aus dem Dokumentarfilmer Tom Barman, dem Maler und Bildhauer Rudy Trouvé und dem Modeschöpfer Stef Kamil Carlens. Die drei, ergänzt um zwei weitere Musiker, darunter der bis heute zur Band gehörende Violinist Klaas Janzoons, waren künstlerisch dermaßen verschieden sozialisiert, dass ein gemeinsames Ergebnis fast automatisch alle bekannten Grenzen sprengen musste. Und so wies bereits das 1994 veröffentlichte Debütalbum „Worst Case Scenario“ eine atemberaubende stilistische Heterogenität zwischen Jazz, Folk, Noise, Alternative und Experimental- Rock auf, die ihre deutliche Anlehnung an Künstler wie Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart oder Tom Waits nur mühsam verbergen konnte. Fast noch wilder trieb es die Band sodann auf ihrem zweiten Album „In a Bar, Under the Sea“, einem Meisterwerk der Vielseitigkeit, dem man letztlich nur einen Vorwurf machen konnte: Es war schwer vorstellbar, dass all diese verschiedene Musik von einer einzigen Band stammen sollte. Trotz dieser herausfordernden Experimentierlust und dank überwältigender Kritiken der Fachleute gelang dEUS mit diesen beiden Alben aber allemal der internationale Durchbruch.
