Abdul Majeed Khwaja was one of the founders of “National Muslim University” (now our very own Jamia Millia Islamia) founded at Aligarh in 1920. After the establishment of the National Muslim University he devoted his time in nursing the institution with Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar and subsequently took over as its Vice-Chancellor (1923-1925). Abdul Majeed Khwaja was one of the ardent advocates of united India. He worked tirelessly and pleaded for the avoidance of partition of the country. He suffered indignation and abuse and could not succeed in his mission of having an undivided India. He withdrew from active politics, having given his best under the guidance of Mahatma Gandhi but was never oblivious to the happenings around him. He also served as Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (1936-1962). Hon’ble Mr. Justice A.M. Ahmadi started his judicial career as Judge of the City Civil and Sessions Court of Ahmedabad in March 1964. He was appointed Secretary-cum-Remembrancer of Legal Affairs, Government of Gujarat, in 1974, following which he was appointed Judge of the High Court of Gujarat in 1976. He has also been Chairman of various Advisory Boards and a Member of the Ravi & Beas Water Dispute Tribunal. Justice Ahmadi was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court in December 1988. He became Chief Justice of India in 1974 and continued to serve in the position up until 1997. Between 1994-1997, six Indian universities, including the University of Leicester, England, conferred on him the Degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa).
