Strongly recommend to all the politicians of the world. Please read this and treat all the creatures just like us. When Bill Oddie was growing up one of his favourite books was a collection of essays called The Bird-Lover's Bedside Book. His new book, Bill Oddie Unplucked, is just that sort of book. It contains 50 of Bill's essays, magazines articles and blogs, designed to be read in any order you want, with each tale short enough to allow you to dip into something new every time you pick up the book, whether you choose to read it in bed, on the way to work, during your lunch break, in the doctor's waiting room, or on the loo. Representing some of the very best of his writing and general musings of the last twenty years, Bill Oddie Unplucked is generously illustrated with Bill's own whimsical if artistically primitive drawings. However, broader sources of data about avian activity are needed, to improve the information available for environmental management. Technology advances have seen acoustic monitoring emerge as a new way to study birds. The ever-increasing raw data from acoustic sensors requires processing, to extract information about bird activity. This is a difficult analysis problem, as there are just under 900 bird species in Australia and most have multiple distinct, yet variable, calls. There is an opportunity to extend birding activities to include collection and review of recorded audio. Currently, no acoustic analysis interfaces are available to enable collaboration between ecologists and experienced birders. Effective interfaces require an understanding of the culture and practices of birders, along with how birders can apply their experience to the review of recorded audio.

    Tim Brooke-Taylor Very Brief TIM was born in Buxton, Derbyshire. His father was a solicitor, his mother a Lacrosse International and his maternal grandfather, a parson who played centre forward for England in the 1890’s. At Cambridge, as a result of a promise he made to the Derbyshire Education Committee, he joined the Footlights Club and became president. His colleagues included John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie. Tim is probably best known as one of ‘the Goodies’ and he has just returned from Australia where the goodies did a sell-out tour. He has been part of the radio programme ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue’ since the beginning in 1972. He is a passionate supporter of Derby County. Tim Brooke-Taylor Not so brief TIM was born in Buxton, Derbyshire. After a bad educational start - he was expelled from his first school at the age of five and a half - he went to various schools in Buxton and then on to Winchester College. Before going to Cambridge he taught at two private schools - one in Hemel Hempstead and the other, one of his old schools in Buxton, Holm Leigh - but only subjects he knew very little about. In 1960 he began an Economics and Law degree course at Pembroke College, Cambridge and, as a result of a promise he made to the Derbyshire Education Committee in return for a grant, he joined the Footlights Revue Club.

After 18 years as Executive Director, he is now a Senior Fellow of the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), the leading think tank on the environment in the EU. He established the Institute’s agricultural policy work in the mid 1980s and remains a leading authority on the Common Agricultural Policy, the single most important issue affecting birds and other wildlife in the countryside. David is a trustee of Green Alliance and board member of Greener UK. He has been responsible for a series of research projects on agriculture, rural development, nature conservation, climate and other policies in Europe, and regularly gives evidence to parliamentary committees and advice to government agencies. Helen Browning OBE (Oct 2017-22) Helen Browning runs a tenanted 1,350 acre organic livestock and arable farm in Wiltshire, which supplies branded pork products to multiple retailers, independent outlets and export, and runs the village pub too!
