Argentina is seen as a paradox, a nation which does not display the political stab- ility commensurate with its level of socio-economic development. The work also seeks to examine the origins and policies of the most serious manifestation of dictatorial rule in the nation's history, the period of military power from 1976 to 1983.

Augusto de Lima 1715, 30190-002 Belo Horizonte, MG, Brasil **Departamento de Zoologia, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, MG, Brasil The correct identification of Biomphalaria oligoza, B. orbignyi and B. peregrina species is difficult due to the morphological similarities among them. B. peregrina is widely distributed in South America and is considered a potential intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni. We have reported the use of the polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region of the ribosomal DNA for the molecular identification of these snails. The snails were obtained from different localities of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. The restriction patterns obtained with MvaI enzyme presented the best profile to identify the three species. The profiles obtained with all enzymes were used to estimate genetic similarities among B. oligoza, B. peregrina and B. orbignyi. This is also the first report of B. orbignyi in Uruguay. Key words: Biomphalaria orbignyi - Biomphalaria peregrina - Biomphalaria oligoza - snails - ribosomal DNA - internal transcribed spacer - polymerase chain reaction Biomphalaria snails are present in several coun- Grande do Sul (Carvalho et al.

Natenzon1 and 1 Ana María Murgida 1PIRNA – Programa de Investigaciones en Recursos Naturales y Ambiente Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires Background information for presentation given by Victor Pochat at the Annex I Expert Group Seminar in Conjunction with the OECD Global Forum on Sustainable Development, 28 March 2006 Domestic Policy Frameworks on Adaptation to Climate Change in Water Resources Argentina Country Case Study 1. Overview of water resources and their main use. The South American continental part of Argentina’s territory, of about 2,800,000 km2, extends along 3700 km between south latitudes 22º and 55º. This great latitudinal expansion and a great altimetric variation determine a wide climatic variety, from the subtropical climates in the North to the cold ones in Patagonia, alongside a predominant moderate climate in most part of the country. It is also worth mentioning that 76% of the territory is under arid or semi-arid conditions, as it receives a mean annual precipitation of less than 800 millimetres. The surface water resources has an average flow of about 26,000 m3/s. Even though this figure may seem quantitatively generous, it is necessary to point out that the spatial distribution is very unbalanced, since 85% of the country’s surface water corresponds to the Argentinean territories of the La Plata River’s basin, specifically to the Bermejo, Paraguay, Uruguay and Paraná Rivers, among its main water courses, concentrating most of its population and productive activity.

Argentina SYNOPSIS This study describes the scheme of the interspecific trophic relationships in the pelagic zone of the Argentine continental shelf in the coastal water region along the Province of Buenos Aires, in which the mackerel occupies the trophic leveis co"esponding to a plankton feeder of copepods of the zooplankton (third levei), and to a small predator of the micronecton fish (fourth and fifth leveis). The specific food spec· trum is wide in the taxonomic composition and it consists of: Copepods, Amphipods. lJ!l.phausiids, Decapods (Iarval aml postlarval staKes) . Chaetognats, small squíds and fish, mainly anchovy in ali development stages. The size of food species varies from / to /40 mm in length and the maximum diameter of the body from 0,8 to 20 mm; the diet is that of a small carnivorous fish tending to the euphagy characteristics of an opportunistic feeder. During the summer months some qualitative, Quantitative and chronological variations in the specific com,JJosi!ion of the diet become erúdent: these derive from the relative abundance of food specles and the monthly sequence of the dominant modal classes in the 'lhoals in this period, the anchovy is always frequent in the stomach contents of youngs and aduJts of the mackerel, such as I, rval and postlarval stages, young and adult fish. The capacity of food ingestion varies considerably between 5 and 22% with respect to the body weight of the consumer and the number of ingested specimens with the size of food species.

  • The Argentina-Brazil Regional Power Transition
Erschienen in: Foreign Policy Analysis ; 14 (2018), 4. - S. 469-489 https://dx.doi.org/10.1093/fpa/orx008 The Argentina-Brazil Regional Power Transition L u 1s L EANDRO ScHE 1 0N1 University ofNotre Dame Almost four decades have passed since the Argenrina-Brazil balance of power gave way to a Brazilian uncontested primacy in the Southern Cone. The peaceful and cooperative nature of this regional power transition poses an interesting puzzle for structurail theories and those concerned with the US-China transition. Why do cer.tain countries accept accommo dation more leniently, like Argentina did? I offer an explanatory model and use process tracing to show that key cooperative turns in this bilateral relationship-during the late l 970s and early 1990s- required concurrent structural changes, both at the international and domestic levels. My con clusions suggest, against the prevalent narrative, that cooperation between Argentina and Brazil was not a product of democracy. Instead, peaceful power transitions take place when the costs of confrontation are high and social coalitions are largely redefined in the declining state. The structure of international politics in the Southern Cone has changed consider ably over time. While today's scenario is one of cooperation under ßrazilian unipo lari ty, Argentine preeminence was patent a century before, and the two-centuries old rivalry between these two countries was still in place not many decades ago (Russell and Tokatlian 2003; Martin 2006; Lima 2013; Schenoni 2015; Flemes and Wehner 2015). Although structural theories expected the Brazilian takeover to in crease the likelihood of conflict (Lemke 2002; cf.

  • A Estética De Artaud Como Elemento De Compreensão Histórico-Social Da Argentina (1966-1973)
