Ha collaborato con molti fra i musicisti più importanti della scena italiana e interna­ zionale. A partire dal 1994, con Nauplia, Maria Pia De Vito firma la maggior parte dei progetti ai quali partecipa e fonda gruppi, dal duo alla piccola orchestra, con i quali ha compiuto tratti importanti del suo cammino artistico. L’esperienza del trio con il bassista John Taylor e il chitarrista Ralph Towner l’ha portata alla consacrazione internazionale nel 49° Down Beat Critics Poll 2001, quando è stata inserita dalla stampa americana nella categoria “Beyond Artists”. Questo riconoscimento ha spinto Maria Pia De Vito a esplorare nuove strade: per esempio l’interazione fra improvvisa­ zione ed elaborazione elettronica, come testimoniato dal progetto Tumulti a cui han­ no partecipato, oltre al percussionista Patrice Heral, il violoncellista olandese Ernst Reijseger e il pianista austriaco Paul Urbanek.     Gianluigi Trovesi – Gianni Coscia “La misteriosa musica della Regina Loana” Gianluigi Trovesi: alto and piccolo clarinets; Gianni Coscia: accordion This hugely enjoyable and highly inventive album is dedicated to the late Umberto Eco, a lifelong friend of accordionist Gianna Coscia and an ardent champion of this particular duo. Eco’s The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, a meditation on the nature of memory, inspires Trovesi and Coscia on their own nostalgic and exploratory journey, referencing music mentioned in the novel and free-associating upon its philosophical themes. As ever, the Italians cast a wide net, playing songs associated with Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller and George Formby, paraphrasing Janáček, dipping into movie music, and improvising most creatively while keeping their dedicatee in view. Repertoire revisits “Interludio”, a piece that Umberto Eco and Gianni Coscia collaborated on 70 years ago, and Gianluigi Trovesi crafts a new composition on the letters of Eco’s name. Sulla musica si sono riempiti vagoni di libri e si allungheranno chilometri di files. Eppure – lo sosteneva anche il grande Leonard Bernstein – chi mai riuscirà a spiegare compiutamente ed esaurientemente il singolaris- simo fenomeno della reazione dell’uomo al linguaggio dei suoni? Ci possiamo provare (ed è legittimo farlo), ma il mistero che ci pervade ogni volta, all’ascolto di Cavaradossi che canta “E luce- van le stelle”, resta impenetrabile. Come tutti i linguaggi dell’arte, la musica ha vissuto momenti 3 incomparabili, in cui le vette più alte della creatività umana erano intravedibili da tutti: i corali di Bach, le sinfonie di Mozart, le sonate di Beethoven, le arie di Verdi e Puccini. Chiunque poteva toccare il cielo con un dito. Poi, soprattutto nel secolo appena conclusosi, gli artisti, i poeti, i musicisti hanno ritenuto giusto incamminarsi su strade sempre più ardue e innalzare torri più alte: penso a personaggi pur geniali come Picasso, Joyce, Stravinskj e penso al jazz, una musica nata in America da una costola della nostra cultura europea ma per molti versi rimastaci spesso estranea. Tuttavia, ciò che del jazz ha senza dubbio e da sempre attirato l’at- tenzione persino dei più scettici è l’esser una musica capace di possedere sia le caratteristiche del linguaggio difficile e impegna- tivo sia la comunicatività diretta delle espressioni popolari.

    | 1 L’AQUILA JAZZ, I TRE DIRETTORI: “SARÀ UNA FESTA DI RINASCITA, IN LUOGO UNICO” di Barbara Bologna L’AQUILA – Il desiderio di tornare a dialogare, di ricreare una dimensione corale, di aprirsi a tutti i linguaggi che portino bellezza. Questi sono gli elementi alla base della direzione artistica della prossima edizione del Jazz per le terre del sisma, che si volgerà nel centro storico dell’Aquila il 4 e 5 settembre. Emblematico il titolo “L’Aquila Balla con le arti”, che porta in sé questa idea corale, e l’omaggio a Giacomo Balla, di cui si celebrano i 150 anni dalla nascita. La manifestazione, voluta da Paolo Fresu e da lui guidata dal 2015 al 2019, a partire dallo www.virtuquotidiane.it | 2 scorso anno è diretta da un comitato di direzione artistica che cambia ogni anno. L’edizione 2021 è ideata e diretta da Paolo Damiani (violoncellista e contrabbassista), Rita Marcotulli (pianista) e Alessandro Fedrigo (bassista). Virtù Quotidiane li ha intervistati. “Da anni – racconta Paolo Damiani – anche nella direzione del festival ‘Rumori Mediterranei’ di Roccella Jonica, ho voluto sempre artisti che provengano da diverse aree, oltre ai musicisti, anche danzatori, fotografi, video maker, per creare un festival multimediale. E questo è ciò che con la direzione artistica di quest’anno abbiamo voluto proporre”. “L’idea che abbiamo avuto è quella di cui io stessa mi nutro – prosegue Rita Marcotulli – aggregare diverse forme d’arte, dalla danza, i video, la musica elettronica, perché questo evento creai una famiglia in cui tanti interagiscono con il jazz”.     World music from Siciliy Band from Sicily, Agricantus is certainly one of the most attentive groups on the international world music scene. Theirs is an extraordinary blend of traditional and contemporary instruments and modern techniques wich takes you on a journey through the voices and rites of the ethnic traditions of southern Italy and then leads you on to unknown territories in far away places. Biography With the release of the album "Gnanzù" (1993) and after with the EP "Viaggiari" (1995), the band revisits melodies and lyrics of the oral tradition of Southern Italy mixing them with ambient music and trip hop. In 1996 the band produced "TUAREG", one of the most representative owns albums that allows the band to achieve success in Italy and Europe. This disc has been awarded the prestigious "Targa Tenco, 1996" and reached the 6th place in the rankings of the World Music Charts Europe. In 1997 Agricantus won the PIM - Italian Music Award, and interpreters the soundtrack of the movie "Hamam-The Turkish Bath", winner of the Golden Globe '97. In the same year it released "Hale Bopp Souvenir", a mini-cd with the participation of Fadimata Wallet Oumar, spokeswoman of the most authentic Tuareg culture. In 1998 Agricantus released "KALEIDOS", album where the band makes an ideal journey in search of the popular roots of classical music, mixing the classical composition inspired to popular music with archaic instruments and modern technology. In 1998 they co- wrote the soundtrack to the flm “I Giardini dell'Eden” (Gardens of Eden); in 1999 the album Best of Agricantus was realesed in the States with the label "World Class", who distribute it not only in the States but also in Canada, South America, Australia and Japan.

Il legame di SIAE con il territorio, infatti, non si traduce solo nella presenza capillare che ci permette di essere ogni giorno al fianco di autori e utilizzatori, ma anche nel sostegno che la Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori è pronta a mettere in campo in situazioni di emergenza rinnovando annualmente il suo impegno, nella convinzione che la cultura sia la base attraverso cui passa ogni rinascita.
