University of Connecticut OpenCommons@UConn Doctoral Dissertations University of Connecticut Graduate School 9-11-2017 Three Essays on Craft Beer and Craft rB eweries Bryce Casavant University of Connecticut - Storrs, [email protected] Follow this and additional works at: https://opencommons.uconn.edu/dissertations Recommended Citation Casavant, Bryce, "Three Essays on Craft Beer and Craft rB eweries" (2017). Doctoral Dissertations. 1638. https://opencommons.uconn.edu/dissertations/1638 Three Essays On Craft Beer and Craft Breweries Bryce Casavant, PhD University of Connecticut, 2017 Chapter 1 empirically estimates the effects of vanity and quality on the demand for craft beer. While large \macro" breweries have historically dominated the US beer industry, the industry has seen a significant rise in smaller \craft" breweries. Two possible sources of consumer preferences leading to the growth of craft breweries' beer have been forwarded. The first, quality, suggests that craft beers are simply better. The second, what I term \vanity", suggests that the non-macro image and branding increase consumer utility. The goal of this paper is to disentangle empirically these two sources of growth. Data on beer sales, prices, and beer brand characteristics from six U.S. cities is combined with brewery ownership data and a quality measure of beer derived from a popular beer rating site. One cannot measure consumer preference for craft beer directly. A negative coefficient on craft branding shows up in past analyses because, by definition, craft beer has a substantially smaller market share than macro beer. To capture craft beer's vanity effect, I exploit the fact that within the dataset some macro breweries produce craft beers.

Menu Cover Inside of Menu Book The story of We wanted to provide ‘A Venue’ for all to enjoy, it’s the main concept behind our brand. It had to be nice enough to celebrate a special occasion without being too over the top for a casual drink. The decor is warm & comfortable, a reflection of the easy going Okanagan lifestyle. What would a night out be without some good stories to share and enjoy? We pride ourselves in providing a great space and interesting creatives to pique your curi- osity and spark conversation. It’s a small hands on business where you will find the owners & partners working together behind the wood, serving guests with a friendly smile while pouring drinks with a dash of flair. What you see is what you get. This is what we love to do and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Sharing is Caring! The Story of theMARTINI Its true origin is still debated among purists. The earliest records point to a 1862 cocktail called ‘The Martinez’. Another story cites its origin in 1870 at Julio Richelieu’s Saloon in the town of Martinez, California. Still, others insist that Jerry Thomas of San Francisco was first to list the ‘Martinez’ cocktail in his bar book printed in 1887. The Old Dirty Bastard 9 Ketel One, Dry Vermouth, Olive juice with an Olive and pickled celery on a pick. Burnt with Jameson’s Scotch, add a few drops of celery bitters. Shaken the way James Bond likes it. Over the years the Martini Cocktail has become one of the best known alcoholic bever- ages due to its simplicity, sophistication and the ‘Pop Culture’ socialites that drank them.

  • Vacationing in Southeastern British Columbia Mention That You Will Be
Vacationing in Southeastern British Columbia Mention that you will be vacationing in British Columbia and most people probably think you will be going to Vancouver, Whistler, or Victoria. In addition to the west coast of British Columbia, there is also an agricultural area in the southern center of the Provence (the Okanagan) which is home to many wineries and an area in the southern eastern part of the Provence (the Kootenays) known for its natural beauty. In this article we will focus on vacationing in the Kootenays (this area is sometimes called the BC Rockies, but the mountains are really the Purcell and Selkirk ranges). If traveling to the Kootenays by air, the easiest airport to fly in and out of is Spokane Airport in Washington. To get to there from Spokane Airport, one heads east on Interstate 90 for about 34 miles. You will pass the city of Spokane and enter Idaho. Take exit 12 in Coeur d’Alene (US 95) and go north (if you first wish to see the downtown area of Coeur d’Alene before heading to British Columbia go south on US 95) Going north on US 95, a few miles from Coeur d’Alene you will pass the Silverwood Theme Park and about 28 miles beyond Silverwood you will come to Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced: pond-o-ray) and the town of Sandpoint, Idaho. US 95 bypasses the town, but it is easy to exit the highway to see the town and return to the highway beyond the bypass. At Sandpoint you will be joining the International Selkirk Loop (see: http://www.selkirkloop.org/), a 280 scenic drive through Idaho, British Columbia, and Washington.
