This programme must be transparent and holistic, and incorporate any new methods available through ongoing research, addressing an array of parameters related to the survival of the species by using the blend of the best available science and technology. In this current census of rhinos in West Bengal the tried and tested method of “Total Count” has been adopted. Simultaneously, methods of genetic analysis and identifying individual DNA is also being introduced. The whole exercise has been conducted with active participation of NGOs and volunteers to ensure transparency. -
